Another day, another chance to get away from his brother. Things were technically going smooth with them, of course, but Hina-nii was settling in to this life a lot better than him. He even seemed to be getting along with the family better. He always was the better at making friends. But Katsuo wasn't about to let all that get to him. Instead, he would avoid the situation periodically, not so much to let off steam as to do something interesting. Katsuo was finding their new life incredibly boring, after all, so there was no real envy of his brother.

This particular day, Katsuo decided to wander around near the river where he and Kaede had sat in a tree and thrown rocks. It was peaceful out here, and it was fast becoming his relaxing spot, a place to be completely alone, no twin to share everything with, and he was growing to like that feeling.

After wandering around, he picked a tree with a nice base and sat with his back against it. The grass was patchy in this area, being close to the water, but the dirt was still soft. He picked up a stone and tossed it into the river, smiling as he enjoyed his new favorite passtime.

Yet again it was the start of a new, but boring day. Chiharu wandered out of the ramen shop boredly yet again looking for something to do. She'd gotten off work earlier than usual today, but all that would be for naught if she couldn't find something entertaining to do with this spare time. Instead of wandering meaninglessly around the streets like she'd normally do she decided to take a different approach this time. Perhaps this time around she'd find more success in whatever it was she was trying to attempt.

With the memory of he riverside visit with Kaede in mind she started on the trail leading from the busy streets to the peaceful river. The last time they were here they'd had to leave fairly quickly thanks to the little insects flying about everywhere, but she had high hopes that this time around she'd be able to find a spot to sit bug-free.

As she approached a tree that looked like it could provide sufficient shade she heard a light splash. Could another person have beaten her to the spot? Resuming her natural gait she wandered over to the tree. It was true that someone else was already there, but they looked friendly... In a sense. "I'm sorry, but is this spot taken?", she asked pointing to the spot next to the person.

Katsuo looked up, a little startled. Now this was new. "N-no, I guess not," he stuttered. He wasn't used to being the one asked that sort of question, he was always the one asking it.

"Thanks.", she said quietly with a smile as she sat down next to the boy. She was right about the numbers of bugs dropping due to the nearing end of Summer so she could enjoy the fresh air while she could. She had made sure that she wasn't sitting too close to him to make it seem uncomfortable, but she'd also made sure she wasn't far enough for him to take offense of it.

"My name's Fujiyomi Chiharu.", she started as she introduced herself to him. It was common courtesy anyway. "And what's your name?", it wouldn't do them well to stay strangers if they were sharing the same tree anyway.

"Takenaga Katsuo," he replied. This girl was cute, so his initial instinct was to start flirting immediately, but he remembered Kaede and agreeing to try and be more honest. Katsuo fidgeted for a moment, not really sure of which road to take, but he couldn't let it take long to decide, or she'd start thinking he was weird.

"Why would such a pretty girl come sit with a guy like me?" he asked her plaintively. All his confidence flooded back and he was back to his old self, even though the act required he seem less so. Sorry, Kaede, he apologized to his friend in his head. I'm just not ready for that big a leap yet.

Not that this was exactly lying to himself, as the girl really was attractive. And this time, he was pretty sure she was a girl this time. He wasn't about to make that mistake again.

"Ah I see~ It's a pleasure to meet you then, Katsuo-kun.", she replied with a smile, glad that he'd been so quick to reply. It'd surely dampen her mood if he was one of those more difficult people, much like Yemon.

She blushed almost instantaneously with his compliment and question, she wasn't really used to people being so... What was the word? Ah yes, frank. She waited a little for the blood to go down while thinking of a suitable answer to please and not drive him away. "Well~ The view and spot looked nice and I figured it wouldn't hurt enjoying the summer with someone nice.", she concluded. He'd looked pretty kind from her point of view at the time, and she was rather glad he didn't disappoint.

She's good, Katsuo thought to himself. Either that or she's just a natural.

Katsuo scolded himself for immediately coming to that conclusion and tried to put all thoughts of the game from his mind. He smiled sheepishly, not wanting to make her think his head would swell from such a compliment. Should he have actually thought about it, he would have realized he didn't agree with her that he could be anything similar to nice.

But she certainly was. "There's plenty of room." He motioned to the large area around them. "But I'm glad you came to sit with me."

She watched him and waited patiently for a response. "Thanks.", and with a smile she sat down gently next to him and sighed happily as she gazed over the horizon at the already waning sun painting the sky a multitude of warm colors. The river just in front of them also mirrored this sight. This was definitely one of the things that she was glad that hadn't changed no matter where she was. "This is definitely the best place to come to watch the sunset don't you agree?", she asked as she turned around to face him.

"I do." Katsuo smiled and leaned back. "Breeze is perfect here too." It really was. He closed is eyes and listened to it rustle through the trees, smiling. "Started coming here after I met a very unique new friend," he mused, finding himself being strangely honest, even though he hadn't intended it. "He's a really weird one," Katsuo laughed out loud. "Wears a pink kimono and everything. Thought he was a girl, first time I saw him."

Chiharu leaned back against the tree and nodded in agreement. Everything about this place was brilliant, it was almost as if this was the only place in the world without any cheats or deception. "You did?", she was about to chuckle when he continued with his description of the mysterious man. 'Pink kimono... Looks like a girl...?', there was only one person she could think of that matched the description but it couldn't be him? Could it? After a few moments of merely blinking in surprise and thought she shrugged to herself and decided to ask. It's not like just asking was gonna kill her. And honestly the thought of death really didn't seem all that ominous here in Soul Society. "Was his name Kaede by any chance?"

Katsuo stared at her for a moment. "You know him?" Well, it's not like the area was too filled with people, so a chance meeting with a friend of a friend was possible, but how random. "It's a small world, I guess." He laughed.

"Well this is interesting then.", she agreed with a small laugh. "Indeed it is.", she replied with a light sigh as she gazed over the river. The Rukongai did seem like a small place to her. It's size closely resembled that of a small city's. If one explored long enough they'd probably have enough knowledge of this place to make a crudely designed map. It seems that if Ayami was here then odds were that she could find her right? The thought was truly a pleasant one, making her glad that she'd met Katsuo-kun today.

If Chiharu knew Kaede, then maybe Katsuo should just be himself. Maybe he already was, without knowing it. He thought about it a moment. What was it with some people, bringing out the regular guy in him? "I guess I should count myself lucky," he said after a long pause of silence. "I keep meeting the nicest people." He smiled lazily as he continued to gaze at the water. He didn't want to make eye contact yet, since he had said something like that.

She redirected her attention to him at those words, but what came next certainly what she expected. She blinked, taking in the whole compliment and decided that she'd leave it at that. Just a compliment. "Thanks.", she replied with a smile. "I myself haven't been having all that luck.", she started thinking back to that encounter with Yemon. That had been anything but enjoyable. "But it's nice to have that back luck streak broken, y'know?", she concluded with a laugh.
