Name: M'leck
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Bronzerider
Appearance: M'leck is tall, standing at 6' 7''. He is sturdy but lithe: as a child he was always very scrawny but the life of a dragonrider filled him out with decent muscles. He has wavy, almost silky, dark brown hair that frames his face nicely. His facial features give him an impression of youth; they almost look as though they were carved from smooth white marble. He is pale, no matter how much time he spends in the sun. M'leck's eyes are a bright green.
Personality: M'leck is a man who will never say two words when one will suffice. He takes his job and duty as a dragonrider very seriously, not only because the job requires it but because he wants to protect Pern. Though he never says it, M'leck is fascinated by the complexity and diversity of his home world - especially the Southern Continent. He hates Thread with a burning passion, having seen his best friend fall to it. It affected him deeply and turned him into the quiet person his is now, wheras before he had been open and social.
M'leck is a resiliant man, remeniscent of the men who went north on the Yukon trail on old Earth. His is the gentle patience of someone made to toil and who toils mightily. His mental make-up allows him to absorb catastrophies, like the loss of his friend, and yet remain courteous and sweet of speech (even if he doesn't remain particularly social). He has very little tolerance for fooling around, however. This stems mostly from his concern for what such behavior could cause during threadfall. Because of this he will respond to young weyrling's pranks and tomfoolery with a special ferocity, though he will not hold it against them. Once someone has apologized or promised to improve he will believe them and let the matter pass.
What's special about M'leck is that he has a photographic memory. He can recall perfectly what each of the hatchlings in his clutch looked like, exactly what someone said, or the precise coordinates needed for going between. He has a way of looking at people that can be unnerving. If he is making sure to remember a person's face, for example, he will tilt his head downward slightly and stare unblinkingly at them - almost like a cat. This has the unfortunate effect of overshadowing his eyes and giving them a rather frightening appearance. It is deceptive: M'leck would never harm anyone.
History: M'leck was born on the Southern Continent. His parents were sea-traders who owned a rich business in transporting goods between the two continents. M'leck would not always travel with his parents; sometime he would be left with relatives in sea holds in the north or the south. He was a bright young lad, full of energy, eager to learn and to explore. At the age of eight while walking the southern beaches he happened along a clutch of wild fire lizard eggs as they were hatching. His family used fire lizards extensively, training them carefully and treasuring them as valuable partners and friends, so M'leck was not only familiar with them he knew not to lose his head. Carefully using his packed lunch to lure the hatchlings M'leck managed to impress a bronze and the only gold, before noticing a little blue the others were attacking and saving it. Impressing the babies had a calming effect on him: for the duration of their youth he was forced to modify his behavior to take care of them first. Surprisingly, the little blue turned out to be remarkably intelligent for his color and held his own with the other two hatchlings. Like most runts, though, the little fellow never got very big; as an adult he was barely the length of a grown man's forarm.
M'leck was always taught to revere dragonriders so when the chance came to be searched he literally leapt at the opportunity. It was during his stretch of waiting for the eggs to hatch that he met his ill-fated friend; Bahramic who later became B'ramic. Bahramic was younger than M'leck but had just as much spunk to him. The pair often were to be seen chasing the herdbeasts, exploring the caverns, and trying to sneak past the nesting mother to see the eggs hardening. B'ramic impressed a bronze as well, and the two dragons became just as close as their riders were. The four survived weyrling training together, M'leck's memory helped both of them survive the training to go between. B'ramic died just before the two of them were to be transferred to a fighting wing.
Pet(s): Three firelizards. Gold Diantha, Bronze Lumeth, and Blue Shivvy.
Dragon: Jekheth
Age: 3
Color: Bronze
Appearance: Jekheth is a medium size bronze built very much like his rider. He is long and lean but his muscles stand out in sharp relief on his skin. His hide is shaded in deep greens and yellows that blend and merge smoothly, darkening into a brown shade around his head and feet. The tip of his tail is a light shade that almost matches that of gold dragon's.
Personality: Jekheth is a wise-a** and there's no other way to put it. He uses his rider's considerable vocabulary to say the things that M'leck won't. The bronze has a somewhat acerbic sense of humor, but he is careful never to push his teasing too far. He is a skillfull flier more out of practice than natural talent since M'leck had them training and memorizing techiniques almost constantly after B'ramic's death. Jekheth's bubbly good nature is hard to dampen and he can often be seen comforting injured dragons or riders with humor - Jekheth will not hesitate to talk with humans. His remarks will sometimes get him into trouble with wingleaders or with the weyrleader himself, though.
