I saw a thread in the Aquarium Choas the other day and I have to say it bothered me... A LOT. So I thought I'd put it up to the guild to answer.
The topic went something like this: "Isn't it just common curtesy to PM about glowing BEFORE you grab? I mean WTH people!" Etc. etc.
My thought is this. No actually. It is not my obligation to even tell you when you are glowing so darn it be grateful that I do, before or even after.
This is the internet for goodness sakes, people could be mean and evil on these forums and the worse that is going to happen to them is you report them for saying something nasty and they get banned and have to make a new account. So expecting "common curtesy" here is unrealistic.
Every time I run into nice people I am estatic, especially if they are nice enough to tell me I'm glowing or bump my glowing thread. Show the same curtesy and be thankful! Don't make demands out of me or I'm going to turn around and stop telling you at all.
Anyone else have a thought?

For one, I think it's extremely rude for people to ask others to bump their thread, or send them a comment/PM BEFORE they play on their tank. Because what happens if they do this - and then they miss THEIR chance to play your tank because it stops glowing?
For two, I think it's courtesy to tell someone that their tank's glowing rather then an obligation. I only tell people that their tanks are glowing if they're online - and a lot of people only have their online/offline status visible to friends so you know what... That's there own fault.
And sometimes, to be honest, I can't be assed with sending a PM to every glowing tank I see. Let's be realistic - we'd spend more time sending out these PMs then we would actually playing :V.

It's all just being nice... I don't see it as anyone's obligation to PM or Bump... For me, sometimes I PM, especially if I notice in their Sig to PM or Bump... Usually when I grab people it's in one of my threads and I'm usually coasting from one page to another, grabbing one tank then just scurrying off to the next (I don't mean it to be rude if I don't read their sigs, I just don't notice).

I do it to be nice, a lot of people won't tell you/bump your thread if you're glowing and your tank isn't filled with "amazing fish," it's not worth even grabbing... which I find really rude.

It's more of a nice gesture than anything else. I am one of many Gaians that have the "Bump this thread" link in my signature, but I don't demand that people bump it. Sometimes I bump it myself when I see my gold count increase out of nowhere.
But in case if others aren't nice enough to bump my thread after they grab my tank, I always make sure that I'm invited to as many Booty Grab threads as possible. That way, I have a better chance of getting my Booty Grab game full without the need for others to bump my thread. 3nodding

As far as I'm concerned, it's just people being nice. And I don't expect anyone to bump my glowing threads before they play - that might make them miss the game!
Booty Grab is a win-win for players and tank owners, and I'm grateful for all the people who play my aquariums, but there's certainly no obligation. They don't owe me anything for playing my tank - I've already been paid! biggrin

I PM if they are online; as a courtesy, after I play. I have also PM'd people who didn't know why I was PMing them. Even thought I wrote in the title 'ur tank is glowing'. neutral

I am glad to know there are like minded people out there. Thanks guys! heart
I try to PM or bump in the 5 second count down though sometimes when the internet decides to stick I can't do anything about it. And like I said that thread really bothered me and for a while I was tempted to stop PMing at all. But my nature won out and I can't help but help those I can.

(CF posting as Dizziesed): Bumping is easy enough to try during the countdown, and it is a nice thing to do, but i certainly don't demand it of anyone. I post to thank those that do, and tap their tanks. Sometimes i even get to grab their tanks in return!

Bumping during the countdown is a cool idea, but I doubt my computer could manage it. I do try and bump glow threads after I play someone's tank however. Seems like a nice way to say thank-you. biggrin

I also think it's just being nice, not a law. I send PMs here and there, but mostly drop a 'glow bump' if the person has a thread link in their signature.
It's cool to see some people are nice enough to drop a bump too. ^^

It's definitely not an obligation. It's only to be nice. If I do send a PM or bump someone's thread I always do it after I grab their tank.
