SVU Adds An Oscar Nominee July 16, 2009 07:06 PM EST
Law & Order: SVU is bringing on Oscar-nominated Irish actor Stephen (The Crying Game) to guest-star in the third episode when it returns this fall. It will be Rea's first appearance on American episodic television. "Stephen will going head to head with Chris Meloni, Christine Lahti and Mariska Hargitay in an episode called 'Solitary,'" executive producer Neal Baer tells me. "We ask the question - is solitary confinement torture? After years in solitary confinement for his involvement in a bank robbery, Stephen's character gets out."
While Baer assures the episode will feature some shocking scenes, nothing will ever compete with the suprise Stephen got in The Crying Game. Haven't seen it? Put it on your Netflix.
Meanwhile, Baer also hints that in Episode 4, Hargitay's Det. Benson is in for a shock of her own. "Something from her past will inform her about one of her colleagues," he explains. Uh-oh. That girl's past is awfully tragic so this can't be good news.

"LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT"
"CONFIDENTIAL"
02/03/2010 (09:00PM - 10:00PM) (Wednesday) : A WOMAN'S MURDER IS LINKED TO A VAST PONZI SCHEME THAT LEADS DETECTIVES BENSON (MARISKA HARGITAY) AND STABLER (CHRISTOPHER MELONI) TO REOPEN THE INVESTIGATION OF A SIMILAR CRIME COMMITTED TWENTY YEARS EARLIER When security cameras record footage of a woman being abducted, it isn't long before Captain Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) and the SVU squad find the woman dead in the basement. Detective John Munch (Richard Belzer) recalls a similar case from twenty years before, sending Detectives Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Eliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) to Sing Sing to speak to the culprit, who begs them to reopen his case and prove his innocence. As strange similarities between the two cases begin to arise, Benson and Stabler face fierce opposition from Ingrid Block (guest star Lena Olin), the pit bull attorney for the main suspect who will do whatever it takes to prove her client's innocence. Ultimately, it falls on DA Jack McCoy (guest star Sam Waterston) to decide whether or not the ruthless lengths to which Block went to defend her client constituted a crime itself. Also starring: Ice-T (Detective Odafin Tutuola), Tamara Tunie (Dr. Melinda Warner), and B.D. Wong (Dr. George Huang).

04/28/2010 (10:00PM - 11:00PM) (Wednesday) : WHEN A MAN IS ACCUSED OF MURDERING HIS DAUGTHERS, DETECTIVE STABLER'S (CHRIS MELONI) FORMER PARTNER (GUEST STAR SHARON STONE) TAKES THE CASE When two sisters are killed in a fire, Detectives Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Eliot Stabler (Chris Meloni) are confused about why they are called to investigate. They soon discover that Stabler's old partner, ADA Jo Marlowe (guest star Sharon Stone), has been put on the case -- despite the absence of a sex crime -- because the two victims were so young, and that she has enlisted the duo to help. However, as the investigation continues, Benson and Stabler find that the case might be more suited to their department than anyone originally assumed, and Stabler's interrogation tactics threaten to get the detectives into trouble. Also starring: Ice-T (Detective Odafin Tutuola), Tamara Tunie (Dr. Melinda Warner), Richard Belzer (Detective John Munch) and B.D. Wong (Dr. George Huang).

L&O's Waterston Crosses Over to SVU
You know something major has to be going down if the captain of the mother ship is visiting one of his spin-off ships.
On Law & Order: SVU's April 28 episode, Law & Order vet Sam Waterston will make a rare visit as Executive A.D.A. Jack McCoy, when SVU special guest star Sharon Stone’s Jo Marlowe makes a major faux pas.
Though Waterston appeared on SVU from his L&O office in 2000 and 2007, SVU executive producer Neal Baer tells me, “For the first time in Law & Order: SVU’s eleven year history, Sam will show up in the SVU squad room."
It marks the first time Waterston has worked with Chris Meloni (Elliot Stabler) and Baer says the two got along fabulously.
