Name: N'mar
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Brown Rider
Appearance: N'mar has a bright red crop of hair which he deliberatly keeps shaggy but short. It has a casual, messy look and sticks out in odd places but he likes it that way. The only time he will make an effort to tame it is during a feast or a gather - but in that case his efforts only extend to getting the knots out, not to organizing it. His eyes are dark blue and very expressive. For example; when he grins they crinkle up and shine. He is not particularly strong, but his body has been trained to have excellent endurance. He can run for several miles without becoming winded. In a brawl he would have to rely on speed, because if someone catches him he'll be crushed. N'mar doesn't let that stop him, though - his slightly crooked nose is evidence of that fact.
Personality: N'mar is very self-confident: it almost seems as if he were born to be a dragonrider. His attitude is slightly cocky but good natured. He is social, upbeat and bright. He has always believed in standing up for what he believes in, and as a child he often got into fights that he knew he couldn't win to defend a friend. When he impressed Alreth it gave him a certain amount of pride to go with his courage. He's never been happier in his life, and it shows in everything that he does: his devotion to his dragon, his enthusiasm for his duties, the spring in his step when he walks, and the tone of his voice. He has a slight tendency for being reckless, though, and several times he's had close shaves flying in thread. Alreth was briefly out of commission to recover from threadscores to his wingtip, and that cooled N'mar down slightly.
History: N'mar was originally Nilamar. Even as a child he seemed to have a serious need for speed. He was born prematurely, began crawling before he was even two months old, was walking and running around at 15 months old. By the time he was two turns old anything that wasn't bolted down in his parent's small hold was in danger. Nilamar joined as a runner apprentice at the earliest age he could and rose quickly through the ranks. The runner master he answered to became like a second father to him. When he came of age his parents and master pooled their resources to get him a fire lizard to help him and keep him safe on his runs. He has no regrets about leaving the runners, but he keeps in touch with his old friends and makes a point to visit every now and then. N'mar eats quite a lot but never puts on more muscle or an ounce of fat - his metabolism converts it all into energy.
Pet(s): Brown fire lizard Zavir.
Dragon: Alreth
Age: 3
Color: Brown
Appearance: Alreth is built solidly; he's big, now that he's reached his full size. His neck is short but beautifully arched and his face is sculpted into an angular, pleasing shape. His hide is a mix of deep browns and reds, his hindquarters are the areas where the red stands out the most, and in bright sunlight Alreth becomes quite handsome. His right wingtip is scarred from thread, but it doesn't bother him: Alreth prefers to think of it as a badge of honor. Unlike his rider Alreth sports a proud display of sculpted muscles and well proportioned limbs.
Personality: Alreth is a proud, confident fellow. He has a very good idea of his limits and demands consideration within them. He shows proper respect to dragons he knows are stronger than him, but will absolutely refuse to take orders from any others. Alreth has even been known to butt heads with some of the smaller bronzes. It isn't that he wants trouble - he just won't allow anyone to push him around. When he was born he almost charged out of his egg. He stormed around the sands in a furious rage, sensing his human was close but unable to find him, absolutely refusing to settle for anyone else. Nelimar wasn't on the sands or in the stands: he had just arrived in the weyr with a message and didn't know a hatching was going on. While looking for the person to deliver the letter to he accidentally found the hatching grounds and was knocked flat on his back by the hatchling brown that had been looking for him. Before N'mar even knew what had happened Alreth gave him a small bump on the head for making him wait, stomped his foot and promptly began demanding his food.
Although it isn't always obvious, Alreth is a ladies-man. He always gentles down his atitude when he talks to greens, and he becomes downright helpful whenever a gold decides to talk with him. It's like a game to him. Surprisingly, however, Alreth has caught none of the girls he's flown after. He said privately to his rider that the flirting is more fun than the having, but something about the way he said it made N'mar wonder if Alreth was just saving his ego. Alreth and Zavir are very good friends and get along well together.
