Mommy, Mummy.. Zombie? it's all the same.
A small girl looks up at her mother during story time lying in bed. Her fox ears twitching slightly as she ponders a monumental question in her innocent three year old mind. “Mommy, how come I don’t have a daddy?”
Her mother chokes on the sentence she was midway through in the Three Little Pigs story. Pausing to think for a moment the mother slowly replies as her fox tail curls around from the edge of the bed to lie next to her daughter’s pale grey skinned arm “uh… well honey you do have a daddy sort of...”
The small child looks her mother straight in the eye. “Mommy, what do you mean sort of?”
The mother sighs lightly trying to come up with an explanation for the question she thought would be a few more years before coming. Finally settling on a way to begin she asks “You know mommy’s friend Mei?”
The child nods emphatically growing excited with every word “Yes! Mei plays with me all the time, and when ever I cry and you’re not around she takes care of me and my owies and…”
“enough little one” the mother giggles while holding up her hand to stem the flow of information she already knew by heart. “Well Mei is the one who made me able to give birth to you, she is your daddy”
The little girl’s eyes widen until they look as if they will pop right out of her head. “But mommy, Mei’s a girl! How can she be my daddy?”
Struggling very hard not to laugh at her daughter’s surprise the mother tried to answer. “Well honey. It’s very simple really. Would you like me to tell you the story of how I came to be pregnant with you?”
The child nods not knowing what to say. She was about to hear the story of how she came to be! What could be more exciting in the whole wide world to a child then the story of how their existence entered into this world?
The mother exhales and looks at the wall her eyes mist over in recollection. “Well it all began when my artist friend Blah mentioned fun place she liked to hang out. I decided that I wanted to see what was so fun there. This fun place turned out to be Mei’s summer beach spot. Of course at the time I didn’t really know anyone besides Blah and we always came at to the beach at different times so I didn’t really know anyone, but in spite of that everyone was always really nice to me. It didn’t take very long at all before I felt perfectly at home there. There were a lot of contests going on and there was always someone to talk to on at the beach.”
The child squirms for a moment before interrupting “Mommy, I wanna hear more of the story but can I have a glass of water?”
“Of course you can little one.” The mother gets up from the side of her daughters bed gently setting the forgotten bedtime story on the top of the bookshelf before heading to the kitchen to get a glass of water for her precious child. Stepping back into her daughters room with a glass of water in an ‘<3 infected with pregancy thread’ cup the half-fox demon mother continues to reflect on the past but doesn’t say a word more until her baby finished the glass of water and set it on the small stand next to her bed. Then after climbing back onto the bed and shifting around until bother she and her daughter are comfortably cuddling together again she decides it’s time to carry on their discussion. “ready to keep going honey?” After watching her daughter nod for a moment the mother smiles before continuing her tale. “While one day I was at Mei’s summer spot and I had gotten to know a couple of people so I felt very safe. I picked a spot to lie down and relax on the beach and try to get a suntan. Mei came up while I was half asleep and not paying much attention to anyone or anything.”
“what did she do mommy?”
“Sweetie she took her giant super sharp needle and poked me in the belly. After that I was pregnant with you.” The mother pokes the child’s belly softly causing a giggle to errupt from the little girl. “Why do you think Mei always asks you to call her mommy too?”
“But mommy Mei asks me to call her mummy because she is one.”
“Honey Mei is asking you to call her mommy not mummy, and she is a zombie.” The mother sighed heavily pinching her nose using her thumb and index finger. Upon seeing this gesture the little zombie-fox child bursts out giggling.
“Mommy that’s the thing everyone does when they say ‘honestly, you’re just like your mother’.”
“goodnight honey.” The mother tucks her child in and softly kisses the little one on the forehead before leaving the room her eye right twitching uncontrollably.
