He couldn't hear anything, couldn't see a single thing except when sudden sparks exploded from the wreckage. "HEERO?!" Duo Maxwell knew he was screaming his fellow Gundam pilot's name. He knew it because of the raw pain his throat felt every time he tried. Blood cascaded down into his eyes, the young man wiping away the sanguine liquid every few seconds as he stumbled forward. The plane they had been on, traveling toward South Africa from Australia, had gone down in a flurry of Mobile Suit gunfire. So many innocent people... Now the plane was in pieces, half floating in the ocean, half laying on the black beach in the middle of the night. And there was no sign of Heero Yuy. Only fire, the smell of smoke and seared flesh, and the roar of the ocean waves. "HEERO?! WHERE ARE YOU, MAN?!"

It had been simple, just a simple flight to get to their next station, yet it ended in so much danger. Pain was obsolete as the events unfolded, fear not even brushing against the mind and soul of the Gundam pilot. He was trained for the worst, and he was handling this better then a lot would have. There were many lives lost with the crash, more drowning while others were killed with the sudden descent. He seen bodies lying around him, heads in the water. Like ten others, he was thrown out of the plane when it split in two, right before it crashed.
He could see the shore, but he was far away from it. Rubble laid between him and it. Heero Yuy could also feel a few of his ligaments bleeding. It was a dangerous area to be, floating in the ocean. Sharks weren't something that he was afraid of, hardly anything made the Gundam pilot frightened.
That was when he could hear his partner, 02 Duo Maxwell, calling his name. Heero could barely hear it, for the distance that was between the two, but as he worked his way one arm stroke at a time, he could hear the fear in it. He had feared that the other would get caught in the rubble, but was glad he was safe. A life like that one didn't deserve to die like this.

A particularly loud explosion caused Duo to cover his head as debris from the wreckage rained down around him. There was a thunk, a pain in his shoulder, and then the Gundam pilot found himself on his back on the beach. "Kuso..." he hissed, pushing himself back up. Now his left arm was slowly being drenched in his own blood. Just what he'd needed... "KUSO, HEERO! DOKO?! Duo shouted, looking around quickly. Long brown hair, undone from it's usual braid, fell in the young man's eyes as he dashed toward the surf. He saw him... or what he thought was him. "HEERO!" Duo was in the water in moments, wading until he was chest deep in the surf. His left arm hurt, but he had to swim. He had to help his companion. Diving into the depths, Duo used the current to pull him out. When his head broke the surface and he gasped in a few lung-fulls of humid air, he found himself only a few yards from the pilot of 01. "Heero! Daijoubu?!" Duo quickly asked, grabbing onto some nearby wreckage just as another explosion rocked the area.

Kuso. Just what he needed, explosions. At least he was still a bit away, not having to worry about the pieces that fell out. That was when he watched as the debris hit Duo's shoulder. "Kure." Duo didn't even try to dodge it, let alone take the time to fix it before diving into the ocean.
Heero could only hope that the long haired pilot knew what he was doing. Worry, that was what Duo was feeling. Heero couldn't stand it at times, watching as the pilot ran into trouble. It happened almost every time, yet the other didn't seem to get killed because of it, always finding a way out.
"Baka." Heero muttered under his breath as Duo floated out in the ocean with him. They were both damaged by the crash, Duo suffering from obvious wounds while a few of Heero's were easily fixed. Just a broken leg, nothing that he couldn't fix himself.
"Fairing, yourself?" Heero was a bit more relaxed around 02, so much more then the others. He didn't even understand it. Maybe it was because the two had went through a lot more together then with the other pilots. ~ ~ ~ Kure - Stupid

Sighing in relief that Heero didn't seem to be too hurt, Duo nodded. "I'll be fine. Mild concussion and partially dislocated shoulder, I think..." It certainly hurt enough to be dislocated. Carefully, Duo managed to lodge each piece of debris that they were on, into one mass, and he started to kick his legs toward the beach. "I haven't found anyone else, Heero... the entire crew, passengers... everyone I've come across has been dead." He was trying to get them to safety, hopefully so they could find somewhere to spend the night. It already looked like rain... Though Duo couldn't tell if it was because of the explosions or actual lightning in the sky. The 02 pilot looked to Heero, "It was a Mobile Suit... I can't believe someone still had one laying around... after all the s**t that's happened!" Obviously, Duo was angry over the loss of life from an unknown attacker.

In truth, Heero didn't know the whole status of his body, having been numb from the time he had been floating in the water. Working his way one hand stroke at a time, he watched Duo talk about the deaths. So many. The plane was full when they loaded, and every life seemed like it was lost. "None out here either." Heero commented mildly, clearly thinking on something. It was the attack, how it seemed staged. The Mobile Suit didn't even look familiar, something that Heero was hoping for. Then, at least, he would know who to kill next.
"It was staged, too obvious they were after something. Our plans weren't public, correct?" From his side, he didn't know anyone that knew they were heading off except for those who they left and those who they were planning on seeing and each other. Then again, things like that does get spread around. Quick. Sometimes, too quick.
Seeing the shore coming up, he kept his eyes dancing. He was looking for any place to hunker down for the night and for any thing else that might prove worthy of using. The sky was also getting darker, meaning they didn't have that much time before the storm hit.

"I told Quatre." Duo spoke as they finally were able to touch the silt. The 02 pilot stood, water coming up to his neck, and started wading in toward the beach. "But I only told him because I needed to borrow a means of getting to Australia in the first place. He probably told Trowa..." the young man sighed, his breathing somewhat labored. He was exhausted! "Trowa... Trowa wouldn't tell anyone, neither would Quatre so... I think... I think one of us was followed." he spoke, finally reaching the beach and bracing himself, his uninjured arm against a knee as he tried to take deep breaths. Sighing, Duo simply collapsed onto his back on the sand, glad to be alive and equally glad that Heero was as well.

Heero felt the pain shoot up his spine, both legs not in the best shape as he had first thought. He listened to what Duo said, knowing that the other pilots wouldn't have told any one about this. But, who could have known? Maybe it was just luck that they were there and the target was someone else that was in the wreckage. Later, after they both had rest, he would search what ever was left here. What ever he could find, including the bodies. It peeved him that someone would still have a Suit after what had happened, after the war was nearly over.
"Rest. We are at low tide, you might want to move." Heero stated before going up the shore a little bit, moving slowly but with enough momentum that his legs wouldn't get worse. Sitting in the sand, he ran his fingers along his shins, feeling for the breaks. Finding them, he braced his leg with one hand on each side of the break before aligning it. A swift crack was heard, Heero not even flinching as he went to the other. Sure, he didn't show the pain, but he did feel it.
Removing his shirt, or what was left of it, he tore it into strips before looking at Duo. "Use these. You need to stop the bleeding." Heero stated. He did care for the pilot, as a friend, and didn't want to be alone here. Duo needed to take care of the wounds before they got infected, especially since they didn't have any equipment at the moment.

Wincing, Duo paled obviously. "There you go again... popping bones back into place without even flinching..." he spoke as if disgusted, but in truth... he was smiling at Heero. Carefully, the Gundam 02 pilot picked himself up and headed farther up the beach, falling into the sand beside his fellow pilot. He took the strips of Heero's shirt, carefully looping it around his arm and tying it tight. Didn't really help his dislocated shoulder, but after a few moments, the blood stopped flowing. "I'm going to need your help." the young man spoke quickly, not meeting Heero's eyes now. "I'm not impervious to pain like you so... I could use some help popping my shoulder back into place."

"You learn.." Heero muttered, knowing it was different for himself. He was forced to learn to hide the pain, to get over it, to hide it. A pilot wasn't meant to feel any pain, especially the kind that he was. It made him one of the best ones out there, but also one of the most secretive ones. He hide his emotions just like everything else. Emotions made one weak.
"Duo. You do know what you asked me, seikai?" Heero asked, knowing it wasn't as bad as a broken ligament but Duo wasn't trained for the pain like he was. Not to the extent that Heero was. It was still hard to inflect pain on a comrade, especially Duo. Yet, he knew that he had to. It was this or let Duo put it back himself, likely to get worse before he tried or him making it worse.

One brown eyebrow rose in question, "Of course I know what I asked, Heero. Geez. If it's not put back it'll heal wrong then I'll hardly be any use." Carefully, Duo was putting pressure on his head wound. "Just... Pop it back in so we can get into the treeline and can get you off your legs until they've had time to set a bit." the long haired pilot replied quickly, obviously not very keen on the idea of pain. Duo didn't like pain. Not in the least...

Heero was silent, placing his fingers along a pressure point in Duo's shoulder. No pain, hopefully. Placing his hand gently on Duo's elbow, the other hand resting gently against his shoulder, Heero watched Duo's face for signs of pain. Pulling up on the elbow, getting the arm straight before lowering it back down, Heero applied pressure to the arm before hearing and feeling the pop. Brushing his fingers along the joint before over the pressure point in the neck, the exact one that he pressed softly before, he got the feeling back to the arm working again.
Standing on his own, Heero looked around before his eyes rested on the sky. So many of his bones were aligned correctly but healed roughly. It didn't bother him, for it was how he was trained. Get the mission done before you rest. Pain is nothing.
Leading the way silently towards the forest, Heero left his mind to think about the crash and what Suit he had seen out of the window.

No pain was a hopeful thought. And while the pressure to the point on his shoulder certainly did help things... It still hurt. Duo curled over his arm, barely able to stifle an outcry at the twinge of pain. But the arm was back into socket, and it certainly hadn't hurt as bad as it could have. "Thanks..." Duo hissed, picking himself up off the sand and carefully using the last strips from Heero's shirt to bind his shoulder. Now the wound would be able to stop bleeding. He hadn't wanted to finish patching it up until the arm was set. "It'll get dark soon." the Gundam 02 pilot spoke, heading toward the treeline. "We should find something for shelter tonight. In the morning we can scavenge for anything left... we'll need the light."

Heero watched as the other pilot stood and finished taking care of the arm. At least he was able to keep the pain down, even though it did slip through. Duo was always weak against pain, never trained to hide the pain, even emotions. Yet, that was why Duo was Duo and not anyone else. What made 02 special.
Standing, Heero looked around, knowing his legs were complaining against the usage of them so soon. Glaring at the storm coming in, Heero worked his way across the shore and towards the forest here. They needed shelter, and it would be possible to create one quickly within the forest. Someone would need to find food while the other build camp, but that could wait. Thanks to the crew on the plane, they had their meal just an hour ago, before everything went down. No pun intended. It would last them until, hopefully, the storm blew over. Maybe even till early light tomorrow.
Light would make the search easier, but what would be blown away during the night? Shelter was high on Heero's list of things to do, and he was already planning on how to make one within a forest, old training kicking up again.
