Are elves supposed to be tan or pale?
PostPosted: Thu Aug 20, 2009 8:57 am

Depends.. Wood Elves are considered Tan, becuse they are in tune with nature.. And the High Elves.. The ones that make citys like humans, are more of a pale complexion...
At least, thats what I think...

Well, technically, you can have a tanned high or moon elf, they just tend to be paler. I would imagine that they do tan, as they do leave their homes. And you probably could have a pale wood or wild elf, but I would that less likely than a tanned high or moon elf. Sun elves also usually have bronzed skin.

And then there's the winged elves, drow, aquatic elves... winged elves are also pale, like porcelain, and sometimes have bluish tinged skin. Drow, as we all know, have coal-black skin, and aquatic elves usually either have green or blue skin, although Races of Faerun describes them as having colouring based on their region.

Elves are about as diverse as us humans!

It mostly depends on how that one indivual elf lives his life.. So I am in agreement with Hane!

I knew about moon and wood elves. There are also iron elves, but that's from the book I'm reading... and TV Tropes taught me that high elves are usually the most arrogant bastards alive. As bad as drow, but not so xenophobic. Link for proof.

That's... odd... and rather retarded. I'm guessing it's from the spyware or something?

From what I remember about Drow, they're not black, it's more of a really deep purple. Though it looks black from a distance, you'll notice that when light shines on them(as rare as that it), the highlight is purple-ish.

It's a common mis-conception, though most people in this guild should know better, considering how often Drow skin is described in the book. xd
Sorry if I sound like a jerk, but it's true.

Well, not true... That is just the cover art.. Its hard to see facial features and much else if the drawing is coal black...
As it is described in all the drow based books, and even in the monster manuals, and other such stuff... It descirbes their skin coal black and obsidian at times
Edit: Oh.. And to the others, there is also the Wild Elves... Those are from Dragonlance tho

Edit: Typical physical characteristics
Drow characters are extremely intelligent, charismatic and dexterous, but share surface elves' comparative frailty and slight frames. Females tend to be bigger and stronger than males. Drow are characterized by white or silver hair and obsidian black skin. Their eyes are red (or rarely gray, violet, or yellow) in darkness and green in normal light.
Drow males are commonly wizards or fighters. Females are almost always clerics and almost never wizards.

Edit: I know.. Another edit... Didnt think that one was enough....
In many ways, drow resemble eladrin. Drow have obsidian colored skin and pale yellow (or pale golden), silver or white hair, the latter being by far the most common. This hair is carefully groomed and cared for by most drow and worn long with jewelry and other accessories decorating it. Like all elves, drow are incapable of growing beards, though many males are fond of long sideburns

So, to recap... Drow, dark elfs, have Black skin, obsidian black, not a deep purple... Their hair ranges from yellow/white-silver, their eyes can be purple and red...
I understand that Wiki cant be reliable.. But as far as I know, and a whole lot of people, drow have black skin...
Yes... I love to argue <_<
And no, you are not the first person to point that out...

Sorry Sin, I accidentally deleted my answer when I was coloring my font. I basically said that I just assume that Drow skin can be obsidian black to very dark purple black. *shrugs* That's good enough for me.

I love how my answer was, "teal" rofl
