ok so this is my first post here, soplease don't kill me if you don't understand what i mean ^^"
this is also first time i use linux ( i mean that i just got my linux like 2 weeks ago but i still have many questions left )
and sorry my english, i'm from finland so if you don't understand my english, then just say and i try to explaine different way ~

so to my question ----->

first some facts; i use linux ubuntu

so you know that ubuntu start button?
well i hate it and it doesn't look good on my theme.
so i have different picture that i would love to change there.
i tried to google some way to change it but i tried them all and failed.
so does anyone know how to change that start panel's picture?
( i mean that picture which opens list like " accressories, games, graphics... etc. " )

First off usually the distros name comes before Linux, if you even want to say that, so it would be Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Gentoo Linux, etc. In most cases it is safe to just leave out Linux because that is understood. Second of all only Windows calls it a start button, for KDE it is called the Kmenu (most programs in KDE start, or have a "k" somewhere in the name) and Gnome I think they just call it the Application menu because that is where you launch your applications from xd .

The best thing I can tell you, sorry I don't use Ubuntu, is your are looking for a picture somewhere in /usr. If you do manage to find it all you have to do is place a picture that you do want there with the same name. Beware of the size though if the new image is bigger than the Ubuntu logo then it may not work.

On a side note the Ubuntu logo looks better than the default Gnome one which is a giant foot -> http://www.gnome.org/. Please note that by changing this you are taking away some of their branding that makes it unique, but at the same time this is Linux and in Linux you have the freedom to do and change what ever you want so enjoy and hopefully a Ubuntu user here in the Guild can narrow down your search more wink

well i allready know that, i mean that i need to find folder where is that picture and change my picture with same name there etc etc.
but i can't find that damn folder :'DD haha

and yea sorry about that " start menu " i didn't use that word because i would have seen it in windows ( because i haven't, like i said i'm finnish so i do speak finnish )
and i just though that start menu would be easy to understand for all foreingers like me. i mean that's it's most easy word for that panel :'DD

and in finland we usually say first LINUX and then ubuntu so that's why i did so here too.
i mean we also say WINDOWS vista etc.
but yea we can also say only ubutu or vista...

my fiancee changed some icons ( not normal icons, of course i can do that myself -.-" i'm not so stupid... like i said, my problem is only finding that folder )
but he gave up finding that right folder for me... but he promised to look it someday for me...

sorry again if my english killed someone...

/usr/share/icons/Human/scalable/places/gnome-main-menu.svg

That's the default image. SVG is a scalable vector graphic. You can edit them with a program like Inkscape.

If you replace it, it'll need to be with an SVG file. It might not work otherwise.

Otherwise, you'll have to modify the theme.

My shot in the dark was correct, although pretty much everything is in /usr sweatdrop
