Wow, this forum sure has slowed down. Well, it was always slow... it's just a bit slower now. So slow, in fact, that this is the first post in a couple of weeks (not first topic, first post!!!).
Anyways, though it is a little late, I just felt like sharing a little joy (though, to an extent, it may be bragging?).
Canada is tied for 3rd (with Germany) for the number of world records it holds in swimming!!
19 - U.S.
14 - Australia
5 - Canada and Germany
Also, if you go by swimmer, Annamay Pierse of Canada (someone I used to be on a team with), is tied for 2nd out of the women, with 3 world records! (she's gotten so incredibly fast in the past three years!). (she's tied with 4 other swimmers). Marleen Veldhuis of the Netherlands takes the top spot on the women's side with 4 world records to her name. (Michael Phelps is clearly on top on the men's side with 6 world records).
Though, anyone who checked out wiki probably already knew this. (List of World Records in Swimming) Most of these records have been set over the past year and a bit (not surprising since that covers the time that the Speedo Laser has been on the market). I dunno if we'll be seeing many world records after December 31st this year. I'm looking forward to the revival of the Laser in a few years (or, well, I'm hoping for it, I suppose).
Anyways, what do you think of these world records? Does your country have any? Do you aim to one day make one yourself? Are you just struggling with the idea of making a national record first (heh, or are they one and the same)?
