Does anyone In here have a motorcycle? Everyone in here has seen them on the road... I just wanna know how many of you actually pay attention and look for motorcycles when you drive? Whoever has one do you wear a helmet? The reason I ask this is because my cousin died yesterday There was an idiot driver who rammed into him when he was turning my cousin wasn't wearing a helmet.... I just wanted to see what all of you think about motorcycles on the road if you think it should be legal to not wear a helmet....

I'm really sorry to hear that too Ducky! That's terrible. There are a lot of motocyclists around here. I don't think I've ever seen a motocyclists without a helmet though (I have seen people on Harley's wearing nothing but bathing suits though, which seems equally dangerous for some reason). That's really quite sad. sad *hug*

He has too do it by the end of the month. hes had the bike since the beginning of June and has only ridden it like 3 or 4 times.

sorry to hear that, its always sad to loss someone, especially cus of others stupidity. as for the rest of the questions, I am getting a bike this spring. while i will wear a helmet when starting off i am honestly unsure if i continue once i'm comfortable with the bike.
When i ride on one with my uncle and some others i dont wear one, there are some people i do wear one when riding with. In Illinois it is not a law to wear one. Alot of the people i know also dont wear one because its hard to hear and sometimes see things, like traffic when one is on.

ducky-vs-the-pond Thanks guys... Here in Pennsylvania they passed a law where its not required to wear a helmet anymore...they just recommend it ducky, i'm really sorry to hear that your cousin ate a peach. there's nothing more painful than finding out a loved one went down... i know from personal experience. my prayers are with you. as for the helmet law being repealed... well, that's really dependant on the rider. If you are under 18 in our state you are actually required to wear protective gear for the 1st year that you ride, and so are your passengers. It does not however apply to people 21+ however. Yeah, it's a shame that people in cars don't really pay attention to what's going on around them. And even worse, when you get the douche that likes to text and drive, that needs to be outlawed asap. I prefer to wear a beanie helmet as opposed to a half helmet or a full face. There's actually a class offered by PennDot that is sponsed by the MOTORCYCLE SAFETY FOUNDATION it's free to sign up and they provide all levels of rider instruction. They provide the practice bikes and they will also provide helmets if you do not have one. It's part classroom studies and part road skills development. I was licensed through that program and it was very informative.

If I ride I would only ride while wearing a helmet. You can get ones that don't cover your ears if it's to hard to hear. Mine covers my ears and has a pull down face shield. My friend has a beanie helmet, his doesn't cover his ears. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. People are so stupid and don't look for motorcycles. Some guy nearly hit my dad a few weeks ago. A bike is "technically" a car, like it gets the lane to itself but people in cars think it's perfectly fine to try and squeeze the bike onto the line or something, that they don't "count" as a real vehicle.
I think people who don't wear protective gear are a bit...silly, you never know what will happen, a chick I was talking to had been riding for the last 15 years, and recently took a spill thanks to a gravel truck spilling some gravel onto the road. Her leg is completely messed. Thankfully she had on her Kevlar jacket and jeans so she didn't have her skin torn off as she slid across the road, Another chick my mum knows dumped her bike thanks to mud on the road, she wasn't wearing a helmet and now has no short term memory.

My cousin had been riding a bike for as long as I can remember....He was 46 No matter how long youve been riding you can still have an accident I just wish people were careful With the way people are it scares me that my other cousins and some of my uncles still ride bikes...

I'm so sorry about your cousin sad I don't ride too often but when I do I wear a helmet. And I do see some people without and it makes me mad cause they could prevent a serious head injury.

I ride a 2000 yamaha YZF 600R Normaly im driving slightly faster than traffic Example: Traffic- 60mph Me- 65+mph
Reason being is so i can stay out of blind spots and move into visual. Ive been riding for 3 years now and ive loved everybit of it! As a matter of a fact i feel safer on a bike because i can squeeze through smaller openings and have more escape routes
The only time i dont is when im being horribly tailgated sad why do you tailgate an already speeding motorcycle?

i hate it when people do that. i hated it when i rode, especially. and not just because of the danger. it seems when some people see a bike, they just have to start something with them.
