Centuries of war, ages of spite and destruction from the most archaic and forgotten of times. The origins of the species long forgotten, the reason for the war passed long ago into apocrypha and legend. There is now only the shedding of blood, the carefully concealed war that the pathetic mortals in their cities must never be allowed to know of. The plight of vampire and lycanthrope eternally spinning, condemned to fight each other and live amongst a prey that, were it to become aware of their existence, would likely crush them.
The epicenters of this ancient war, this battle overwhelming in which you're a part are the major cities of the world where men walk in oblivious peace of the supernatural around them. They do not see the fangs of their predator, the monstrous visage of the werebeast masquerading as their co-worker. The sleep, placid and unaware. But still the ancient war rages...
----
This roleplay centers around the conflict of creatures of the night, specifically examples of vampires and lycanthropic creatures (i.e. werewolves and their myriad cousins) in the bustling (and fictional) town of Osvale. A large town in the middle of scenic Appalachia, Osvale is something of an epicenter of supernatural activity, and it only seems logical that the ancient war would gravitate here.
A few notes on the creatures to be played here. If one reads the old legends about the creatures in question, they will note that vampires are not the romanticized villains that most people seem to prefer to think of them as. They are monstrous and bizarre, full of destruction and demonic influence. I think the same should be evident of werewolves.
That said, this roleplay seeks to deviate from the other vampire/werewolf roleplays present on Gaia by mentioning that you are a monster, fully realized. You kill and destroy, sometimes for a meal, sometimes in a lunatic rage. The moon is your nemesis if you're a lycanthrope, the sun your arch-enemy if you're a vampire. To feed, the vampire must assume the monstrous form they have been cursed with, more demon than man, and the werewolf has no real control over their form, driven by the auspices of the moon and potent emotion. So remember, if you're not mortal in Osvale, you're a true monster, and while you might seek redemption or true love, bear in mind that you've as likely to destroy as love and there is every chance that anyone you get close to who isn't also supernatural will probably suffer because of you.

Rules
1) Obey at all times the GaiaOnline TOS. I don't believe I need to further explain their rules on cybering, cursing, etc.
2) There shall be zero god-moding. Control your own character, and realize that you have very real vulnerabilities that can end your existence, natural or otherwise. Incidences of this are grounds for immediate blacklisting.
3) PM profiles to me with the heading "Regarding the Supernatural". I tend to delete out of hand any PM without a title, so this is very crucial if you wish to join.
4) A reminder-- This is not your typical "Vampires-are-really-beautiful-inside-and-werewolves-are-unstoppable-monsters" variety of roleplay. And so help me, if I even spy the word "Lycan", I will most likely blow my brains all over the keyboard. Don't do it.
5) I don't do bright, practically invisible, or artsy-fartsy fonts. Keep them dark, so they can be read, and keep them at the default size so I don't need a magnifying glass to read them. That all said, feel free to be literate, or at least semi-literate. No one-liners here please.
Not too strict, now was it?
The Creatures
Mortals- Men. Humans. Homo sapiens sapiens. Not much more to be explained here. I should hope you don't have trouble roleplaying one of these.
Vampires- The nosferatu. Dark children of the night. Scions and harbingers of perilous death. Most have read vampire stories, though I recommend you read more traditional legends for this roleplay than the average crap that most book-peddlers are putting out these days. Your abilities fall under controlling others, reshaping yourself into a specific type of animal (to be chosen at creation of the character), and, when in your more monstrous form, exceptional strength and speed. You are vulnerable to sunlight most strongly, with a strong aversion to any symbol wielded with the true belief of the bearer that it will repel you. Also, you can be rendered dead by stakes of holy wood (traditionally wormwood, though often other regional varieties come into play as well). You cannot enter a place without being invited, you cannot cross running water, and you bear an incredible aversion to garlic.
Lycanthropes- The most common of these are Homo lupus sapiens, the werewolf. That said, there are many varieties from the world over. They all share the same characteristics in generality, such as being forced to change in the presence of a full moon and a violent reaction to wolfsbane and silver. In turn, they are granted the ability to appear human, or as a large and powerful version of their animal type, and a powerful hybrid of the two. Typically, this change cannot happen at will, but occurs under the auspice of powerful emotions such as anger, hatred, true love, etc. Unlike vampires, lycanthropes do eventually grow old and die, though nowhere near as quickly as a human.
Profile Skeleton
Gaia Handle: (Your profile name, to make it easier to track your character's actions.)
Character Name: (The name of your character. You can go a little crazy here, it's a real-world city after all. Just nothing too... ambiguous, I don't want any "Demon Lord Fancy-Pants" here or anything.)
State of Being: (Are you a mortal? Simple enough there, and there is only one variety of vampire as well, all with the same vulnerabilities (though some prefer certain abilities to others, such as a vampire who focuses on their controlling gaze and another who focuses on their ability to command the loyalty of beasts. Lycanthropes should list their animal type here as well, which can be any beast from the size of a grizzly bear on down to a rat.)
Appearance: (If you want to use a picture, send a link. If you do not wish a picture, a detailed description will suffice. If you are a human, we only need one. If vampiric, you can opt to send a picture of your monstrous form as well. A lycanthrope will need a picture of their normal form and one of their hybrid form, and can opt to send one of the type of beast they are in animal form too.)
Background: (How long have you been in Osvale? Where did you come from? A few quick answers to questions like these will create a dandy background for you.
Other: (If you think there's something special the others or myself need to know, it can go here.)

The sound of heavy metal resounded within Miller Bros. Towing and Repair. It was late in the evening, and the place was closing down. Old Mr. Miller smiled lightly at his employee while he locked the door. Isaac Brouwer was covered in grease from the day's work, his blond hair tousled and his coveralls dingy.
"A good day," said the old man. He glanced up. It was later in the month, still the crescent phase much to Isaac's relief. The grizzled old mechanic shook Isaac's hand. "Thanks for the help on that last one. Didn't think I was ever going to get that engine mounted. Go get yourself a drink on me, just tell Tom it's on my tab." Isaac managed a tired smile and nodded.
The old man had no idea that Isaac would get violently ill if he drank. It wasn't his business, and Isaac had strove to make it that way over the past year. The boss didn't question when they new guy got himself locked in the place overnight almost every month. He was just glad of a good worker.
