Livestream is cracking down on storage limits per account starting Sept. 1.

Our channel currently has 53.24gb of video on it. Livestream is putting the limit at 10gb.

The 10gb limit is per account... I'm thinking that we're going to have to set up multiple accounts for us to upload movies to, and a system to organize the transfer of people from one to another.
With the new webs site we have, this might not actually be too hard.
We could probably have a list of the livestream channels, and above the list a main chat room to organize people to go to the right channel depending on which channel has the movie they want to watch.

This will mean a lot of movies will need to be re-uploaded if we go with the multiple-account plan

So, everybody comment, give ideas about this, whatever. just wanted to let you all know that we're going to have to do some major changes here.

For those that want to read thru it all, here's the full e-mail Livestream sent me about all this.

Quote:
Action needed: You are over your free storage limit.

All Livestream Free Plans include 10 GB of free storage per month (over 3,000 minutes of video!) per our terms. We have not been actively limiting storage beyond 10 GB as a gesture of good faith to all of our early customers and beta users.

Beginning 1 September 2009, the 10 GB storage limit on all Free Plans will be enforced. Note that the storage limit is per account, not per channel, so storage is cumulative across all of your Free channels.
You are currently over the 10 GB limit

As of this week, you are currently exceeding the 10 GB free storage allocation by 42.22 GB. If your storage continued at this level, the projected amount due at the end of September would be $63.33 (at $1.50 per GB per month).
Your Storage Projection September 2009
Current Storage: 52.22 GB
Over Limit: 42.22 GB
42.22 x $1.50/GB $63.33
What can you do?

You can either delete video files in your library to get under the 10 GB storage limit by September 1st, or you can enter a credit card to pay for additional storage.
» To delete videos from your library:

1. Login to the Livestream Studio.
2. Click on the “Manage Library” tab.
3. Select any storyboard to view video files.
4. Download any videos you want to keep a copy of.
5. Click the “X” in the upper right corner of the video or storyboard you want to delete, and confirm deletion at the prompt (once you confirm deletion of a video or storyboard the file(s) will be permanently deleted from our servers).
6. After an hour or so, make sure to check your Billing statement to ensure you are under the 10 GB storage limit.

For more help on deleting files, see our User Guide.
» To enter a credit card to pay for storage over the 10 GB included free:

1. Enter a valid credit card and billing details in the Edit Payment Method screen of Your Account to purchase additional storage at a rate of USD $1.50 per GB per month - roughly 1/2 cent per minute of video.
2. This form will simply validate your billing information. No charges will be billed until the end of each month that you exceed the 10 GB limit (first charge will not be made until October 1, 2009).
3. You can monitor your storage usage and expected bill at any time by viewing your online statement.

If you are over the 10 GB Free storage allocation, and you do not delete your videos, and do not enter a valid method of payment, our system will automatically delete videos from your channels until you are under the 10 GB limit according to the following logic:

* First, if you have more than one Free channel, we will begin deleting videos from your Free channels beginning with the one using the most storage and moving to the one using the least storage.
* For each Free channel, videos that are not offered on-demand or in your auto-pilot will be deleted if that option is available.
* Next, videos will be deleted from bottom to top of your library until your storage levels fall under 10 GB.

» How can I tell if I’m over the limit in the future?

In the Billing tab of your Account Center, you can see your current storage levels.

Note that if you upload, record, or delete video files, your statement may take up to an hour to refresh with new levels.

You can also monitor your storage levels on the My Channels tab in your Account Center by viewing the number of GB next to the Storage icon for each channel.

also, we have a lot of extra videos like youtube videos, music, etc. If they're taking up a lot of space we could delete them first... I tried calculating out how many gbs they are taking up.
I got about 3.2gb... if any broadcasters want to double check that it would be nice

So in the end they're making everyone get rid of their fun stuff?

Craptacular Poptarts
So in the end they're making everyone get rid of their fun stuff?

well really most people broadcast live from their webcams so they don't have nearly as much stuff as us... they've got to make money too - extra space costs money

I think that we should make other channels according to the genre of movie, I can be in charge of making a disney channel or several disney channels, seeing as there were a lot of disney requests.

someone can be in charge of action, comedy, so on~

that may not work, im not entirely sure

themed channel would work well for sure.

we could have somebody in charge of each channel, but everybody would still need access to it to upload the random movie they have that fits in that category or just to broadcast.

we've got 4 days to take care of all this... i think this weekend would be the best time. maybe sunday so we can wait til after the saturday movie night.
ill send a pm to all the broadcasters to try to get on sunday to work all this out and see if we can get each person set up with a channel

It sounds like a great idea to have more channels. Unfortunately, I probably would not be able to maintain one myself. I have College starting on Monday and I going to be engaging myself in a healthier diet and working out quite a bit to overcome some of my personal obstacles.

I'm sure I can still find time to drop in occasionally and would love to be kept informed.

Themed channels might work. Another alternative would be for everyone who uploads to have their own channel and to make a thread with a list of what films they have.
