I think that as we're now recruiting so many members into our wonderful little community, that it is time that we all got to know each other a little better.
Here's the forum where you can introduce yourself, and a little bit about you and talk with others from the guild, so we're all on friendly terms smile I'll start 3nodding
I'm Vogue, but my real name is Dani. I'm 18 and I live in Birmingham in the UK. I've loved reading for as long as I can remember, and it's rare that you'll find me without a book. I'm currently reading The Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, I'm on the third book, and am trying my best to get Vampire kisses for this month's book... but being in the UK makes it difficult to get hold of any other copy apart from the manga. One of my favourite books of all time is Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, I think it's a beautiful piece of Literature. I did not read it for any class, but out of my own choice and I think it's wonderful.
Can't wait to get to know you all 3nodding

Although, once you get to higher education, it gets better. I've just finished my A levels (which is like Advanced level courses here in England... you do them before University), and I took an A-Level course in English Literature. I've liked many of the books that I've read for it. We read a book called Spies by Michael Frayn, I think I'd have to say that that was my favourite.

I suppose it's my turn to introduce myself. I'm Alais Necthana (though I wish it were my real name it's not, haha). I actually got the inspiration for this username thanks to my favorite series of books the Kushiel Legacy by Jacqueline Carey, which are fantastic pieces of literature might I add. I'm 24 and I live in the United States and I'm currently an aspiring Chef. I can't say that reading has been my life because it hasn't, though there was a series that I actually managed to get through and enjoy before reading became a staple in my life. It wasn't until recent years that reading became a huge part of my life and I thank discovering Jacqueline Carey's beautiful world, as well as comic books, for this love of reading I've attained. Like most kids of the last two decades my first real foray into the world of reading and series was Harry Potter which I absolutely love and still do to this day. I don't think that there will be another great series to get kids to read for a very long time. J.K. Rowling is brilliant and I hope to read more of her work because it was just fun. My tastes have matured greatly since the days of Harry Potter and I absolutely love Jacqueline Carey. For anyone that wants to be immersed in a beautifully written world I recommend her Kushiel Series, all six books are worth it. I've recently gotten into Sara Douglass which has been a very interesting ride thanks to the Troy Game books (though I do suggest only those who are 15 and older read them as there are some very explicit scenes). Recently, my friends and I have started our own book club talk about coincidence, right? Little tidbits about myself: I LOVE comic books, especially the Fantastic Four. I'm a diehard Fantastic Four fan, and moreso Invisible Woman fan. She's just amazing, wonderful, clever, smart, and unique. There's no better or more admirable superhero, male or female, in my eyes. I'm an Aquarius. I love playing RPGs, especially Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Symphonia. I enjoy writing, as per my signature. I hate stupidity more than anyone can ever guess. Seriously ever hear of the saying, "There's no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people"? I agree with it completely. Haha. I hate Othello and I attribute that to a teacher I had in high school. She made me hate it so much. So to me that is the worst of the Shakespearean plays. But I enjoy Julius Caesar quite a lot. I'm quite friendly so don't be afraid to say hello or chat it up.
And now I'm done! It's nice to meet you all and I hope to see you all around.

Alais Necthana I hate Othello and I attribute that to a teacher I had in high school. She made me hate it so much. Ahh, no, Othello is beautiful and wonderful but I understand completely what you mean. When I was in Year 3 (8-7 years old) an ambitious teacher of ours made is study Macbeth. She showed us a very gory movie version of it and it really scared me. All I could remember was seeing MacBeth's bloody, decapitated head on a stake. I hated it, and since then I hated the play I thought it was stupid, icky and boring. Then when I was older, I got talking to my aunt about it - she happens to be a teacher of English Literature, and she specialised in Shakespeare, and she really changed my view of it, her enthusiasm carried through when she explained to me why she thought it was wonderful, and by the end of the conversation I'd decided it wasn't such a bad play after all. razz

I may give it another chance later on but right now I'm content in hating it. *Lol.*
By the way good luck on Aristotle, that man needed to make up his mind when he was alive.

The trouble with Aristotle is that all we have are his 'lecture notes' as it were that were compiled into books - we don't actually have any of the things he wrote intending them to be distributed exactly how he was writing them - obviously he would have orated his lectures, explaining and expanding on the notes. Btu since all we have are the notes, he can be pretty damn hard to suss at times. :3

Hello everybody!~ I'm Sidoh Likes Puppies (just call me Puppies ;3), I live in the suburbs of New York City, and I hate Twilight with every fiber of my being. Just thought I'd let you know. I'm usually nice, but I can put up a good argument if need be. I love Death Note, pit bulls, dogs, Halloween, silly pictures, drawing, Okami, my iPod, and a whole lot of other things.
My favorite author is Stephen King. I'm currently reading Cell (Stephen King). My favorite book is a tie between The Stand (Stephen King) and The Phantom Tollbooth (Norton Juster). My least favorite books are EVERYTHING TWILIGHT.

I get really freaked out when I meet someone that lives really close to me on here. I probably actually live a lot closer than you think, I'm in Sutton Coldfield, haha!! I'm 18, so I've just finished my A levels, and my best one was my B in English Literature (I messed up last year and got As this year, so it worked out as a B). I'm taking a year out to get some money behind me (I've applied for a full time job in Waterstones and should have an interview next week 3nodding ) and then I'm going to either the University of Birmingham or BCU to study Creative Writing and English/Creative writing and classics smile After I've finished the Sookie Stackhouse series that I'm reading now I'm going to read the Picture of Dorian Gray. I'm missing my Oscar Wilde (I even have a teddy named after him!)

Although I've only read Othello in my spare time, I have had other Shakespeare plays ruined for me by the wrong teacher. Over the last 2 years, one of my A level teachers made me fall in love with The Taming of the Shrew (Katherina is such an inspiring female figure), but then not 3 months later, another teacher made me hate, and hate with all my energy, Measure for Measure. I just hate it. So I totally understand where you're coming from.

Hey, I'm Seireth (Seir for short). My real name is David, and I'm proud to have it, so I don't care what you call me. I'm an aspiring writer, and I dabble in the visual arts. I write mostly high fantasy, along with some modern fantasy, and a very, very small amount of science fiction. I want to write for the age group 10-13, mostly because that is when I started reading, and that is when I got inspired to write. I'd like to inspire kids like I was inspired.
I think the first book I actually read and enjoyed was the first book in the Spiderwick Chronicles, by Holly Black. Those were snazzy. I moved on to bigger and better things (though Holly Black will always have a place in my heart ((aside from her newer "modern fairy-tale" books, those are just poorly written and she uses a curse word in every other sentence)) ). I started reading a lot from there, picking up things like Eleanor Updale's Montmorency books and the Harry Potter books.
It was on my 12th birthday that I went to borders and picked up the book that would be one of my biggest inspirations for writing to this day. The Thief Of Always, by Clive Barker. Hot Dayumn. Can you say, "Favorite book"?
But yeah, all seriousness aside, I dig reading and writing, and I am up to my pancreas in books I have bought and have yet to read. I'm currently reading four or five books.
Magic Kingdom For Sale Sold! By Terry Brooks
The Chronicles of Drizzt Vol.1 (I got the big three in one book) by R.A Salvatore
The Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov
and A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle.
But yeah. Least favorite book? I don't really have one. If there is somebody out there that likes it, then it can't be a bad book, right? (I will say that after attempting to read Twilight, I got sixty pages in before jumping out my bedroom window screaming "STOP THE PAIN! STOP THE PAIN!")
