I'm just wondering how this guild is going to be run now.
When there is a topic up for guild discussion, is the outcome going to be based on ACTUAL discussion, or just a poll vote?
I have a hard time believing that we all forget how unreliable polls on when voting on important things. I know voting in polls is the lazy way to either agree or disagree and is great for topics that aren't serious or anything. But when it comes to a topic that is pretty serious, we can't be making our decision based on the final poll result.
Polls can be manipulated. ANYONE can vote in a poll, even non guild members. This means that no matter how trivial the discussion is, there is still a chance for abuse. Just because it is something small you can't use the mentality that people won't spam the poll just to get their way.
I'm not accusing every poll, or even the polls in the last two threads in this forum of being spammed and not having an accurate result. I'm just pointing out that having the final decision based on a system that is so easily abused is probably not the way to go.
If the guild adopts the poll results as being the popular opinion I can tell you right now that the chance of ridiculous or unfavorable options winning over options that are more reasonable and being discussed in the thread is pretty high.

I do like the idea of using discussion in determining official official guild things, yes. And I also agree that the polls are COMPLETELY unreliable because we ARE a public guild at this point in time.
I just think that a policy needs to be adopted and stuck to so that mistakes aren't made and such. :]

I think we just go ahead and make an official rule to not have decisions based on polls. Decisions must be made after some kind of guild discussion.
But if there has been something up and the guild never took the time to discuss it, they shouldn't be surprised if someone decides to go ahead and make a decision they feel is best.

I absolutely agree with the fact that polls need to be outlawed. xD
I believe the I am me change was a little hasty, and I really don't believe that a 9 to 4 vote is much of a consensus.
We should definitely discuss before doings like that, for sure.
No more polls. :3

I agree. "paper" (post) votes, not poll data to changes.

We should do our guild-wide decision making (the voting part) in the same way we vote the sniper and ck in the game. We make a thread, let people post yes or no and then count. Its a lot more reliable because then if you start seeing a bunch of people you've never seen before post you can raise your eyebrows and go "WTF?" and then address the issue.
The anonymity of the polling system is great for some issues, but for decisions, even minor ones such as "changing I am me to the Soapbox" it is unlikely that that anonymity could be abused, but since the prospect is there, that system becomes unreliable.
Unreliable systems should not be used. Also, if you're going to be asking people about decisions, it should have at least a link in one of the other forums, because people sometimes forget that this forum is even here.
