Warrior Of Light Introduction: The Warrior of Light, a character that was never given a name just as his younger version the Onion Knight. The origin of Warrior of Light goes back to the original artwork done by the famed Yoshitaka Amano whose artwork is shown heavily within Dissidia. It is commonly accepted that WoL was to be the fighter of the game, having his alternate form be red to make reference to fighter. Warrior of Light also is the final version of Final Fantasy Origins Warrior of Light which made his or her first appearance in a CG cutscene on the Sony Playstation. Though there is no proof supporting this claim, many fans agreed that the cutscene mixed with Yoshitaka Amano’s artwork is what gave birth to the idea of Warrior of Light.
Warrior of Light, being a representative of Knight in the Final Fantasy series, is unable to use black magic. The idea later evolved into a Paladin, a warrior who was skilled with white magic. Warrior of Light was able to overcome that little problem in Dissidia by using items that called forth black magic, the fangs. In battle, Warrior of Light will throw the fangs and magic will burst out.
Many of Warrior of Light’s weapon draws from the remakes of Final Fantasy. Flame sword was a common weapon used when fighting the fiend of fire ironically, Braveheart and Barbarian sword come from Dawn of Souls and the 20th Anniversary versions of the game. Braveheart is a weapon you win in the option dungeon in Dawn of Souls; Barbarian Sword is the final weapon in the 20th Anniversary, which is stronger than the Dawn of Soul’s Ultima Weapon.
Warrior of Light is the only character whose name was never mentioned, this may be reference to the background the Warrior never had.
Personal notes: I have a theory relating to both Cosmos and Warrior of Light. I feel it odd that when things were it’s darkest, the Warrior’s of Light just happen to show up WITH the crystals in hand. I believe that the crystals themselves are the warriors of light that were given life in order to protect themselves. This theory is supported by the Chrono Trigger Entity Theory, where the planet caused Crono and many of his allies to meet and destroy Lavos before it sucked the entity dry. In short, it is like an antibody systems but in a much larger scale. When the crystals felt that they lost balance, the Warrior’s of Light would appear and shift the natural order and disappear as fast as they appeared.
With Cosmos and the Warrior of Light, some think they have more of a romantic relationship with their attitudes towards each other. Though I do not believe this, I believe that as an anti body and a goddess, they would have more of a close bond than those who were born and died as people.

Firion Firion is the first Final Fantasy hero to have a name and a personality. Though many have criticize the game’s story because of how straight forward it was, many overlook Firion as a character and the mental struggle that was not made apparent even in the novelization of Final Fantasy 2. Not much is shown about his personality in game with Dissidia, but there are times which made his attitude ironic as shown with Ultimecia and how Firion saw through her tricks, though in game, a demon seduced Firion while in the appearance of Princess Hilda only to have the pirate Leila stop the two, though it was later shown his gullibility with a chest.
Firion’s original sprite was that of fighter of Final Fantasy, though he was the first to have a face shot sprite in the menu. It later evolved into an actual character to resemble Yoshitaka Amano’s artwork of him in a bandana and snowy white hair. The blood sword’s battle sprite also paid homage to the artwork of Amano. In Dissidia though, his model is heavily based upon the people and the artwork of Final Fantasy 2. Being the first freelance character ever made, Firion can wield any weapon he wants and in time will master the weapon he is using. His stats are also balanced so you can make him any kind of warrior you like. For example, if you give him a blizzard tome, he can learn black magic as well as white. This presents no problem unlike WoL when casting magic.
Firion’s attacks and weapons as stated before are based off the artwork and make reference to certain characters. While Blood Sword is unofficially Firon’s blade, he carries the weapons of his allies. The list of weapons he carries is Maria’s bow, Guy’s axe, a wand, Minwu’s buckler, knives that may belong to either Firion or Leila, and Ricard’s lance. Though as every character, Firion’s special weapons are from the game he belongs to. The 20th Anniversary of Final Fantasy 2 added a special bonus dungeon as well as adding an addition story mode in Dawn of Souls. While Abel Spear and Longinus play homage to Ricard and Leon, Wild Rose plays homage to both Scott whose ultimate weapon is Wild Rose, and Flynn, whose symbol is that of a wild rose.
Though it was beginning to be difficult to add everyone’s weapon to Firion, square made a last minute stunt and made some attacks to make homage to certain characters. This most notable one is Josef who fought with no weapon. Seize knife chains into a punch which shows Josef’s mastery of bare fist brawling.
Because Final Fantasy 2 did not make too much use of Firion’s personality due to the game’s dark depressing story, Dissidia unfortunately attempted to give more to Firion’s personality, making many Firion fans very angry for it. Though the game was purely for fan service, nothing in Dissidia will be taken seriously.
Firion’s alternate costume is made to resemble Amano’s alternate look for Firion, featured in many of his works for Final Fantasy 2. While his Ex-mode in his original costume is suppose to be Firion’s sprite in the 20th Anniversary of Final Fantasy 2 ported to the Sony PSP.
Blood Weapons was supposed to be similar to blood sword, though unfortunately, it made more homage to Final Fantasy Tactic’s Nightsword ability.
