Ok ladys so you know the day is getting close, but did you know your supose to pack a suitcase before leaving to have your baby? This is the place for mothers and mother-to-be to talk about what they packed and how it helped. Everything from lotion to laptops.

I was a Csection so I knew I'd have to stay for like a week. I brought my husbands laptop, lots of movies, and a book for entertainment. I brought nightgowns, socks, and bathrodes for clothes. For comfort I brought my own pillows, blankets, lotion, baby oil ( wink ), and my own nice smelling body wash. I didn't have to bring anything for Zu because the hospital supplys baby shirts, blankets, diapers, and if needed formula.

My mother in law just lent me her suitcase so I can pack it up before the big day. I still haven't taken my class yet, so I'll probably learn more about what to pack later. I'm going to start it this weekend, though...

I took a deck of cards and some cloths to wear home( don't think your getting back into pre-pregnancy cloths then so pack some of your maternity cloths). Some crosswords and other book type games. also my own PILLOW I'm a pillow fanatic. Some cloths for who ever is going to be there with you to wear as well don't want them stinking up your stay.

But some other stuff you should think about besides your stay should be delivery time. Pack something to eat for your coach (whom ever is going to be there for you), don't let them eat it in front of you depending on how long you are in labor you will be starving, a little massage thingy or tennis ball to roll on your lower back through contractions... believe me it feels fantastic! a rag to put in some cool water to rub your temples with.

Socks are wonderful too. often your feet get cold during labor. Breath mints are also helpful. I took tick tacs. Everyone can get really close and the last thing you want is your partner or coach to have bad breath in your face!

» Loving being a mommy 24/7.

When I packed my hospital bag, I may have over-packed a bit but I always do just to be prepared.
Definately bring shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, blowdryer, toothbrush, etc. It feels really nice to be fresh and clean after giving birth.
I brought a couple different outfits for my baby and myself since I wasn't sure as to how I'd feel afterwards and what I'd want to wear (definately wear something baggy since you'll still have some left-over fat from pregnancy that just hangs out in the front - I felt so unattractive).
Socks and/or slippers are a plus for walking around on the floors (which felt really weird to do after giving birth - it felt hard to breathe and it felt like my stomache was being pulled down by gravity; my voice was a lot softer too while standing or walking).
I brought make-up too but ended up not using any of it.

This is an incredibly helpful guild!
I've never even heard about packing a bag, but then I'm only 25wks.

As far as a laptop goes, do the hospitals normally have outlets to plug into or would I be running on battery?

I don't remember what I packed anymore. I do remember that I went into labor before I had anything to eat and by the time I was at the hospital I was starving. Matt brought me some life-savers and they were the greatest thing ever.

As a bit of advice, if you are breast-feeding right away, watch what you eat. Alex screamed his entire first night and the nurses narrowed it down to either he was a screamer (which he's not) or it was the spicy italian sub I made my husband go get me.

And ask the nurses questions!

I had lots of stitches cause I tore A LOT. My husband jokes that I'm all new down there. When I got down with labor and sent to my room, the nurse I had didn't explain anything to me so I didn't know I was supposed to be using a water bottle on the stitches when I went to the bathroom or cleaning them with pads. I found out when I got verbally spanked by a different nurse 2 days later!

It really depends on the hospital too, I didn't pack anything the second time around, because with baby number one, they had everything I would need, and we only stayed two days. Baby number two, they were overload in the hospital that weekend, and never got the stuff together. Lucky, we live close and my hubby brought things to me, but we stayed less than a day. Which was a bad idea, but that is another story, for another time.

It never hurts to be overly prepared, better than having to buy more later.
