Right now me and my husband live with my parent in laws and god it sucks...Their kids are AWFUL, my husband is the only one that even kinda ok and I wanna beat him sometimes too. I mean their 12 yr old will tell me how to do things for my baby WTF Shes yelled her grandma down before too and her mother just kinda stood by and watched. Their youngest son tryed to punch there grandma the other day too. The oldest son never comes home and lies all the time. Its so easy to spot cause hes so bad at it. Why do people let their kids get this way, I wouldn't be aboul to live with it!

Honestly drives me up the wall too. My kids were on teh same route. I lived with my parents for quite awhile, my mother babied my children and punished me for punishing them. So they were able to get away with... whatever.
I think it comes from not so much spoiling as parents today are afraid to punish their kids. My partner and I have a very "leave it to beaver" attitude when it comes to parenting. "Spare the rod, spoil the child" Parents are very afraid to use corporal punishment, now I'm not justifying beating the child for running through the house or anything, But I Do believe that a firm swat on the bottom gets their attention.
As for older children that are used to running the house, firm rules need to be put into place with firm consequences, taking of cell phones (and house phones), computers, tv. The parent is the parent and the child is the child (no matter what age)
Emily asked me the other day when she would be big enough to make her own decisions, I merely responded "When your 18" my partner tried to argue it, well questioned it. My explanation is; until they are 18 i am responsible for every action they take. So if when my chldren are teens and they go try and do something stupid like trespass on a construction site and play on the equipment (my brother did that with his friends) it makes you the parent look bad.
So my advice to you is to teach your own children how to behave and mind. and to protect them from any violence that might come from there towards them, that's really the only time you should step in is when there is a danger to anyone's well being. As for the 12 yr old girl, tell her that when shes big enough to be a mommy then she can be the boss.
