Do you have a Matron or Patron deity? If so who is it and how did this relationship start? if not, do you want a Matron or Patron deity?

Would it be a good idea for people to define what this idea means to them? I see all sorts - ranging from an incredibly serious lifestyle commitment where one's entire life revolves around and seeks to embody that entity to seeing definitions along the lines of "oh, it's just my favorite deity." confused How do *you* see this being defined, Wyndy?

I see a Matron/Patron as a deity that has chosen you to be one of their followers. While you may worship other deities, that deity is your primary deity. Your rituals mostly work around honoring that deity.

Patronage isn't something that means different things to different people. It means different things in different pantheons, and possibly slightly different things to different gods. A patron is certainly not a person's favourite god of the moment! After all, a person can love a god but be utterly rejected by them.

I don't use the term "matron" at all. "Matronage" doesn't feel like a word to me. "Patron" implies that relationship in Rome whereby the less powerful would come to the powerful and offer services. In exchange they were given favour, money, protection. That's why we use this word in this circumstance, although I imagine it would have most relevance within Religio Romani.

Different cultures will probably have different terms, but I don't see any real issue in widening the use of "patron" to all pantheons, so long as we understand that different pantheons will function in different ways.

A patron deity, male or female, is one who has chosen you for reasons of their own to serve them in particular ways. While one might be called to serve several gods, the bond with a patron is particularly strong, their influence is more constant, the love (or indeed love/hate, if the relationship is one the worshipper isn't all that happy with) is more intense. What exactly the relationship will involve will depend on how the worshipper wishes to serve and what the deity demands. Or requests, I suppose.

I don't know if I have a matron/patron deity but I do work very closely with one God specifically. He has yet to tell me whether or not he has a special relaionship with me...I feel like it should be up to him.

Right now I think He wants me to pay him more attention which I think he deserves lol.

To the one that I serve

I've been feeling like I should pay attention to Pan again.

No patron for me, at least right now. Perhaps later if the gods so choose, but I can't really say whether I wish that to happen or not. At the moment I do pay a lot of attention to one god, him more than to the others, but he's not a patron for me. I doubt I'd even be ready for that sort of relationship yet.

But later? Might happen.

I don't really believe in the gods as individual personalities, but rather each is a representation of a certain facet of the diamond that is the Divine. I do have several that call to me, usually in pairs.
Gaia and Pan
Hecate and Cernunnos
Kali and Shiva
Isis and Ra
Athena and Hermes
