I've already mentioned a new comic (which is up to issue 4 and seems to be doing OK) and the fact that books are on the way.
If you go to a bookstore like Borders that lets you search the books they have or that are upcoming, you'll find new Sherlock Holmes books started appearing about June and they are a steady flood right through into next year. In the September Previews catalog, I saw MORE comics coming. Some will appall you as much as or more than the movie. A couple are just regular adaptations of the books--may or may not be properly done. DC Comics will do a comic called Victorian Undead, with Holmes and ZOMBIES. The cover image is so sickening there is no way I am buying this. The copy DC came up with for early promotion shows just what a load of crap this will be. SEE HERE--but BEWARE...the sickening cover image can also be viewed at this link. Another comic by Ben Dunn of Ninja High School fame is....Sherlock Ninja. Yes, you read that right. SHERLOCK NINJA. Cover & a few details.

O_o This terrifies me. I mean, there will be good stuff. But sifting the good stuff out of the bad stuff is going to take forever. Sherlock Ninja? Really? REALLY?! ~facepalm~

This is going to be even worse than when Holmes went public domain briefly in the 70's. I wonder if the Doyle family will be able to get control again?

I actually found Pride and Prejudice and Zombies quite amusing, so I'm going to withhold judgment for Victorian Undead. It's a parody done out of love (at least, P&P&Z was), so until I've read it, I won't judge.
But Sherlock Ninja?
NINJA? The worst thing is, I think they're serious.
And what the hell is with that cover? Holmes looks like Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon in a deerstalker hat stressed

Who says ANY of these projects are done out of love of the subject matter? More likely they're just out to cash in on the impending notoriety the movie will create for Holmes, and may not have even bothered to read much, if any, of the Canon. Some of them may rely on having watched Basil Rathbone movies or Jeremy Brett episodes, and no matter how entertaining, that is no basis for doing a proper pastiche!
The "Victorian Undead" promo text describes it as taking place in "1854". That is so pathetically inaccurate it tells just how little DC cares about getting the details correct. And that cover image of a zombie Holmes covered in maggots completely sickens me.
