RETHEN:
I'd watch the sticky stuff if I were you...

An hour north of the outskirts of La'To stood an old lamppost.
The dark wrought iron creation glowed with an unnatural green light. And from the
cross bar that supported the lanterns shining their unearthly glow was a sign:
"Alchemically Unbalanced"
and an arrow leading into the woods.

The old Victorian home was impressive.
Three stories high and seemingly wrapped in shadows.
A little sign reading "Open" hangs in the window of one of the giant doors
on the front porch. Squeaky floorboards announce anyone's arrival.

Inside, it's just as dark.
The faint smell of ginger and amber and other herbs hangs
in the air as one moves through the front parlor. Bottles of odd looking
liquids, weapons of curious shapes and sizes, even jewelery that glows with
an eerie light. They are all here in the circular room on shelves and on tables.
Everything one could need to make a contract succeed.
And at the far end of the parlor was a little counter and a completely
darkened room behind. A flash of a silver arm, and the patron is there,
smiling and smirking and beckenoning you to take a look around.

He has everything you need.

The Enigmatis Solutions
Beast // Daemonia // Flight

Trust me, you won't want to know what's in these.
I use these for my more...eventful...experiments...
It is said that these strange liquids can affect a young dark creature's growth,
but not to be used when the creature has grown, or it'll be a terrible waste
seeing as I charge a considerable sum for one bottle...

Beast Enigmatis: 2,000,000g
The essence of the beast. May induce features of wild animals. Not responsible for lost fingers.

Daemonia Enigmatis: 1,500,000g
The essence of the demon. May induce horns, tails and other
demonic features only aged demons may develop. Whips sold separately.

Flight Enigmatis: 5,000,000g
The essence of the bat. May induce wings. I'd suggest putting in a skylight that opens.

User ImageUser Image
Black Worm // Chickie
Yes, I do have them, for my experiments...everything needs a test subject you know.
Though I wouldn't know why you would want them. *grins*

They are 5,000g each.

Have an unavailable enigmatis that you want?

You are welcomed to ask for a bit of my time and effort. Neither is cheap however.

Ride walked quickly, eyes taking in every detail as he strode along the barely-there path, one particular destination in mind.

He'd heard of a shop that catered specifically for demons, and after chasing a variety of rumors, it appeared that he'd found it. Stepping inside, he took stock of his surroundings, noting the exorbitant price tags before something chirped, deep in a corner. Movement caught his eye, and looked closer. A baby chickie, locked inside a cage on the floor.

A thought caused one corner of his lips to curve upward, a glint of amusement flickering in his eyes as he took the remaining steps to the counter, already reaching for his wallet as he asked the question.

"That chick you have over there, is it for sale?"

Rethen looked up, a curious look crossing his face. When did a customer get here? He frowned.

He really needed to put a stupid bell on his door.

The alchemist watched as the human wandered around the room, noting things and ignoring others, as most humans are keen to do of course. But a slow smile crept across tan lips. He could practically smell the demonic connections.

A new contract. How intriguing!

"That chick you have over there, is it for sale?" the human asked. Rethen arched an eyebrow. More and more intriguing.

"Why good sir," the magician said with a low purr, stepping into the dim light of his store proper for the first time, "everything is for sale - for the right price. Though why you wold want some pathetic little reagent is beyond me..." He stooped and picked up the cage, dangling it from his metal fingers.

"Shall we say...5000 for the newly contracted man?" he asked sweetly, his lips spread in a feral grin.

The other's tone of voice was grating, reminding him of a salesman locked on its prey, but Ride was no inexperienced target, and his expression remained unmoved as he took another step forward. Everything, was it? And from the looks of it, the 'right price' was never lower than seven digits.

Closer inspection showed strangely colored green hair and rather feral smile, and Ride found himself wondering if the other was even human.

Well, the man dealt in demons, so it wouldn't be too surprising if he wasn't.

He felt no need to explain his reasons for buying the now frantically chirping chicklet, though a slight narrowing of his dark eyes indicated his wariness when the other recognized what he was so easily. "Five thousand is fine." Ride paused, then unable to resist, he added, "You can tell." The statement was a question, inviting the other to elaborate.

Rethen could not stop his grin from stretching wider. This man had a backbone. And was of stable mind too! Quite a formidable example of his species.

And quite the exception!

"Excellent. I shall transfer the little creature here to a traveling cage for you sir," Rethen said, moving over to the counter once more. He worked quickly and soon had the chick packaged and ready to move.

"And yes dear boy..." he murmured "I can tell. One does not survive demons and priests alike by being slow of blade and slower of perception." He winked and reached up with his arm of silver to touch a spot around his left eye that glowed a maddening green.

"Of course...this does not hurt either..." he said as he broke out into another feral smirk.

"Now then, cash or charge?"

Not human. Or at least... Ride's eyebrow shot up as the other revealed a silver arm and an unnatural green patch near his eye, not human anymore.

Either way, the other had his merchandise now ready, and an almost predatory smile crossed over Ride's lips as he anticipated Kael's reaction to this latest offering of 'meat'. Perhaps the thing would like it, perhaps not, but Ride enjoyed doing the unexpected from time to time. Live meat definitely fell into the 'unexpected' category.

The other's words revealed nothing he didn't already know - though it did cement the little information he had. Life would be dangerous. Ride nodded, acknowledging the words, though a certain part of him that thrived on the danger was already looking forward to such encounters.

"Cash."

He had what he wanted, and he suspected the other would only part with more information if prompted with a fee. Pulling out his wallet, he counted out the correct amount of bills before carefully placing them atop a nearby surface - getting close enough to touch would be unwise, and Ride was ever cautious.

Rethen watched in amusement as the man before him laid the bills on the counter and not in his outstretched silver hand. Smart and cautious. And contracted. What a terribly potent combination. The alchemist could suppress the tiny glimmer of approval in his eye.

And all in such a handso- he suppressed that emotion quickly. and took the money from the counter.

"Thank you so much for your patronage," Rethen purred as the money disappeared into his spelled and concealed register. "I do hope you'll come again. I have everything a demon...or its contractor...could need." He chuckled and turned around, disappearing back into the rooms that were not part of his shop.

Things were getting interesting again.

Living things; that was what the contract called for.

Desdemona had to eat living things.

It was a rather gruesome concept, come to think of it. Surely, it would have been easier for her little demon to eat things that were already dead, but then again...everyone had their own personal preference, even creatures from the darkest pits of Hell. Sister Sidonia couldn't blame Desdemona for that. A slight uneasy frown still tugged at her lips at the prospects of feeding the creature every morning, however. Dead things would have been easy to deal with, but living ones -- they wiggled and move. They cried out (well, depending on what you were feeding) as their hunter bit into them. Desdemona was certainly more malicious than she outwardly appeared. How fitting of a demon for her?

After entering Alchemically Unbalanced, the Sister couldn't help but look around. Everything about it was impressive. The bottles, the furniture, the home itself; by the angels above, even the smell was enough to cause patrons to pause in order to take everything in after walking inside. What wasn't impressive, however, were the prices of some of the items. Three million gold for a single potion? There was no way in a million years that the nun would be able to purchase anything like that. Luckily for her, though, that wasn't what she was there for. What she was there for was food for Desdemona and food only.

Black worms. Those would suffice for now.

The upgrade to chickies would have to come later after Sidonia got used to feeding her demonic companion.

Rethen's eyes narrowed as the woman walking into his store. The Shadows practically shrank from her. There was so much Light rising from her being...it was sickening. He could practically smell the Sunlight on her.

Or maybe that was just the horrid herbs they burned at the Church. Whatever.

Yet she was here. And she wasn't throwing Holy Water or shooting the outside of his home with spells. Something was amiss. He checked his calendar and arched an eyebrow.

Nun. Dark Night. Contractor? His eyes sparkled.

Fallen angels were such good customers.

"I haven't seen a Sister here in weeks. Of course, the last one was rather uninvited and spent several days in my basement. I hardly say you would recognize her," the alchemist said with a happy little sadistic undertone. He smiled from the darkness of his counter, the green pulse flashing.

"What pray tell could you want with those worms madame?"

Sister Sidonia was surprised to see the rather displeased expression Rethen gave her when she entered his shop. What was the matter? All she was here for was some simple food for her demon. It was only after she had thought about it that she recalled something. Images from the previous night had flashed in her mind about how the Shades and how they shrank from her. Her head then tilted subconsciously as she recalled being grabbed by the throat from a demon as well. Maybe the Alchemist was on their side in all of this, and thus didn't particularly enjoy people of the Church?

Her hypothesis was only confirmed when the shop owner mentioned the other nun.

So that was were Sister Rosalia had disappeared off to? Rosalia wasn't that old of a nun - a few years her superior, perhaps. Before she had left, she told all of them that she was going to spread the Word of God in a heathen place, though exactly where that was, none of them had any idea. She hadn't returned that night, and was thus missing for several days after. The poor woman...she wasn't the same after she came back. It was almost as if all of her love for God was drained and had disappeared. She was a broken woman now.

Sister Sidonia didn't answer Rethen's question verbally right away. Instead, a hand of hers motioned down to her side. Desdemona stood there next to her, her various bulbs glowing eerily in the light as she looked around. The Alchemist shop had clearly interested the little demon, or so it seemed. Well, that was good. She should at least have some place to enjoy since she couldn't enter the Church at the moment.

"For food, good sir, as you can see," she said with a smile, "my companion needs to eat just as we all must."
PostPosted: Sun Feb 28, 2010 1:58 pm

Rethen simply arched an eyebrow and regarded the slightly glowing demonic creature next to the nun. He smiled craftily at the creature. So it needed lifeforce...fantastic.

"Feeding...is a relative term," the alchemist mused as he fished around under the counter with his live hand. "Or at least...the what and why are relative. Some need it to live, some need it to die. Some need it to simply feel." Here the boy grinned as he hauled out a glass jar and offered it to the woman, his eyes practically glowing.

"Take as many as you need. The price is the same of course, no matter if you buy in bulk." He turned his eyes once more to the demon. "We must let all young creatures grow big and strong..."

His grin was feral and his temple pulsed green.

The nun hesitated for a moment, her eyes dipping down to gaze in at the contents of the jar. Creepy black worms wriggled around inside, eyeless and as if trying to escape. It was enough to make anyone's skin crawl, but reaching in was something she had to do, so the woman wasted no time. A hand dipped down into the jar and from it the Sister produced five small worms.

"I'll take this many for now."

At this, she paused and took a single worm from her hand and bent downward. This would be Desdemona's first taste of a living thing as stipulated within their contract. She offered it to the Demon and then waited. How would her Hellish companion respond?

Desdemona skittered forward in an instant toward the nun's hand, driven by a powerful urge: hunger. All of the bulbs on the imp were glowing brightly now, and seemed to be flickering on and off. The next thing the woman knew, the Imp snatched up the worm with a screech that sounded as if it came from a nightmare, only to crunch and swallow it whole.

Disgusting! Absolutely disgusting!

Sister Sidonia grimaced automatically, but then turned back to the Alchemist.

"She will get one each day. Then, when they are gone, I will return. You and I shall be seeing a lot of each other, Sir Alchemist."
PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:09 am

Rethen watched the creature feed and chuckled slowly. It was hungry indeed. He smirked lightly.

"Ten worms for ten days. 5,000 gold per worm. 50,000 total my dear Sister," he murmured, his eyes shifting over to the woman.

"Shall I open an account for my new customer?"
