RWCI is quite different from AI (Author Insertion) although the two can and do sometimes mix. Author Insertion is the author putting themselves into the story. Real World Character Insertion is when the author writes about a real life person or an OC from "our world" going into the story. Like dimensional travel or "the story was real all along" ...stuff like that.

I LOVE RWCI!! biggrin I really wish more people who write them but everyone gets all up in arms cause they think its the same thing as author insertion. It's not. I think its a great way to practice character writing cause the character is going through a hell of a lot of inner dialogue and such.
