Smokey was wandering the hot savannah looking for a cool shaded spot, perhaps by some water. The midday sun was heating up his dark fur causing him to pant. It was so hot for him and he needed to cool down. Pausing in his search he realized that he had wandered further south than he had ever gone before. No wonder he was so hot. He was traveling to the hottest part of the West.

Taking up his search again he walked much slower than he had before. He spotted a waterhole up ahead but the heat must have so much cause the waterhole was wavering in his sight. He didn't know that what he thought was a waterhole was merely a mirage.

Another Mirage seemed to be dancing accross the blinding, boiling sands not to far away, jaw never closed, but far from panting. It even became unsure whether the soft voice that began to waver over the hot sands was merely a figment of the wishful imagination, soaking the mind in a dizzy array of butterfly-like nonsense as one word mingled with the next. "-And the point of the centrifuge's mirror is the solar blight on the dragon's tan, but the skull has nothing to do with the pie's brother, Tammy. So you see-"

She paused, jerking her head down from the spot up in space her eyes had been locked on, letting them fall over the mirage-viewing, overheated pup curiously. Her paws fell still, spread in a completely open, emotionless cut where they'd settled, slowly drifting below the grains that seeped between the little hairs amidst the cut of her pawpads, which seemed less-than-sensitive to the immense heat. "Oh look, a sandcrawler!" She yapped, hopping up out of the sand, and over to the unfortunate onyx pup.

"Hello, kiddo!" She cooed, seeming to have an absolute lack of any end to the energy the odd fae sported. "What're you doing all the way down here? It's way too hot for a tenderpaw cub." She said, humming softly, tilting her bronze muzzle. "Bet you're lost, huh? Me too. Just like all the humans- Hey! Did you ever see a live human? What do they look like!? ... Oh, you probably don't know, I guess. But, really, what're you doing down here, tenderpaw?" She asked, using the word as though it were a nickname of Smokey's.

Smokey was just about to reach the mirage waterhole when someone spoke to him. He looked up to see a older female standing near him. His eyes narrowed for a moment and then he turned to look back at the waterhole. His eyes grew wide is disbelief as the water was gone and only sand was there. What had happened?! Turning back to the female he looked at her blankly while flicking his tail. She didn't do anything to the water, right? Nah.... she couldn't have. Then perhaps the water had never been there? What a great trick he thought rolling his eyes.

Finally deciding he had had enough of her talking to herself he looked up at her in the eyes. "I didn't mean to come down here were it's hotter." He said blandly, "I was just looking for a cool place to lay down and some water. And stop calling me tenderpaw. I have a name you know. It's Smokey."

The fae's flighty mind didn't even register the smart-a** attitude, or the offense taken at the nickname, as she listened to his words. "So you ARE lost! I knew it!" She barked, almost seeming happy about that. "Oh, wait... I guess that means you're uncomfortable... Y'know, if you take off your jacket you won't be as warm-" She looked up for a minute and shook her head. "Nevermind, you're not wearing one." She looked around, humming softly. "Well, I guess we should find some shade an' water, then..."

She hummed, looking around, completely lost. "Lets go this way!" She barked, smiling. "Come on!" She bounced a short ways through the sand, then walked back slowly, sitting down as though smacked with the 'sullen' stick. "Do you... want a ride or something? A lot of the nomads I meet tell me they can't figure out how I'm so energetic here... An' yer younger'n me and overheated, too..."

Smokey stared at the female with blank eyes. Was she always this.... this.... crazy? He had no better word to describe her and how she acted. He shook his head and opened his mouth to object when she started off. At the offer of a ride he frowned and marched up to where she was. "I'm fine. I don't need any help from you." He said. He walked a bit further in the direction she had started them in and wondered why he was even going to follow her.

Romani tilted her head softly and shrugged, smiling as she padded alongside the pup. "A'wright. I din't mean to offend ya or nothing," She said softly, watching the scenery as she padded along. "So where'ya from? An' where's ya parents? Or don't'cha got any, like me?"

Pushing himself still, Smokey glanced at her. "It's fine." He said shaking his head, "I don't know who my parents are. All I remember is being by myself with no one around. As for where I'm from..... here just a bit further north."

She smiled softly, walking a little prouder for some reason. "Ah. me too." She said happily. "'Cept I'm comfortable in really hot weather... It's the cold that gets me. I tried to go north once... I think. The desert got barren and cold and dark... And it felt like I was always being watched... Y'know, the kind you don't like?" She seemed to have no idea she was talking, watching the sky as she walked and completely ignoring direction's sense. "You know you're always being watched? I can never find them, but I know they're there... So I talk sometimes. Not sure if the other can hear me, or even knows what I'm saying, but... You ever get the feeling you're being watched?"

Smokey stared up at the female finally deciding she was crazy. "The cold isn't that bad." He said simply, "No I don't know what you mean. I never feel like that." Yep this female was certainly crazy if she felt that she was always being watched. After that thought he realized he still didn't know her name. "You know its very rude to not give your name after someone has given theirs."

She stilled her pace, glancing back at Smokey curiously. "Did I forget that?" She asked, putting her paw to her chin as she sat and looking up at the sky. "I'd've sworn I said my name..." She muttered, waiting, as though something else might announce it. Finally, after about 3 minutes, which seemed far longer than they were in this heat, her maw dropped again. "Well, I'm Romani. Nice ta meet'cha!" She hummed, looking around. "You feel any better, yet? I have no idea where we are or which way we're goin', how'bout you?"

Smokey nodded. "Yes you did." He said stopping near her. While she was waiting for the three minutes he sat down and swished his tail irritated. What was with her?! "Hello Romani." He said blandly, "I wasn't feel overly bad in the first place. I just needed to rest." He paused to stare at her for a moment before shaking his head. He should have figured that she didn't know where they were going. It was just like her, from what he's seen so far. "No I don't know. That was why I was following you."

She hummed and looked around, then stood and shook the sand out of her fur: It was like she was carrying around a geyser of the stuff in her short fur. How the hell had that happened!? She didn't have very long fur to begin with, but even a long-furred would would either have to be walking around in a sandstorm or positively BATHING in the desert sand to get that much into her fur. Perhaps her fur was longer than it seemed, lending itself to her appearance now and making her look a little longer-furred as the wind blew it around gently. After a long moment, she turned on her heel and, with a bounce in her step, started wandering in that direction. "This way, c'mon!"

Smokey watched Romani as she shook out a small portion of a desert out of her fur. Geez! How did so much sand get in someone's fur?! As she declared to go a certain way and began heading that way he shook his head. Why should he follow her? She had already admitted she didn't have a clue where she was going. Sighing he slowly began following after her. He couldn't just leave her and get even more lost.

Romani hummed as she bounced along, but it wasn't long before she glanced up and to her right, as though something were there, floating above her. "Where was I? Oh, right... The Centroid of Pie said-..." And she started randomly blathering on about a bunch of nothing, once again. None of it made sense. Did it have to? You already knew she was something close to nuts... Maybe it was her way of keeping her temperature down? Maybe she had a tendency to fall into one-too-many sand traps? But... How did a lone Pup manage to make it out of a sand trap? Did ANYTHING about this fae make sense?!?! ... Apparently not.

Her paw sunk into the sand and she hurried to back out of the pool of quicksand, which quickly filled in the gap. "... Right... Wonder if this one comes out in the under-desert, too..." She muttered, peeking over at Smokey. "How long can you hold your breath?"

Smokey stopped when Romani began talking to herself about absolutely nothing. Once there was a decent amount of distance between them he began walking again. Why was he following this nutcase again? He shook his head as he couldn't come up with an answer.

He avoided the quicksand by instinct alone and stared at it and then Romani. "What?! There's no way I can hold my breath for long..... and I would never jump into that pit of death anyways." He said grasping what she wanted to do, "I don't have a death wish."
