My TKD instructor had hurt his leg a while back(not just a bruise sad ...) and is unable to do kicks like he used to. His doc gave him pills to get rid of the pain and told him to just take it easy and stretch it when he can. He's doing what he can with that last two, but he never liked the whole idea of popping pills in that could potentially be bad for him in the long run so he went to a herbal drug store and bought some stuff called "tiger balm" recently- but it doesn't seem to help. X-mas is coming up and I don't know exactly what to get him.
What I'd like to know is what kind of herbs would be best to use in a compress to help him in anyway, or if there's in fact ANYTHING else that may help him.
Last I checked, a flea market near by sold herbs, so I plan to hit up the place over there- but due to my EXTREME lack of knowledge I'm not sure what to get. sweatdrop

Look into Ginger. Just take a ginger root, fresh from any store that sells them, crush it up in a little hot (as hot as he can stand it) water, wrap it in a clean thin cloth, like a cotton dishcloth or something. (Terry isn't so good, like towel material, but it will work if it has to). Have him put it on his leg for about 20 minutes twice a day.
If he tore a muscle, it will help a lot. Tiger balm, which I use, is great for aches, pains, and cramps and such, but not for actual tear injuries. If he tore the muscle, it's gonna be six months or so, at the minimum, before he can use it like he used to. Gentle GENTLE stretches, in this case avoid the "It has to hurt to work" thing because that's bull, especially with a tear or a stretched muscle.
Hm... St. John's wort oil rubbed in, lavender oil rubbed in, lemme think.
My husband does TKD, so we get a lot of injuries like this. XD If he can't do kicks like he used to, then it's healing. Let it heal. Stretch it very gently, off and on all day. Warm compresses can ease the pain and stiffness before a workout, and ice it down afterwords. Also, he can alternate heat and cold in ten minute intervals for an hour or two, like watching TV or reading.
There's a lot of options out there. I'd say calendula ointment, too, would be good.
He can also gently massage the area with any of the oils I mentioned (Although personally, I'd do St Johns wort and calendula ointment or oils, if I were him.) and work it deep into the tissue. St John's Wort is a notorious first-aid herb, as is calendula (which is marigold, actually.) Both are excellent for muscle aches, injuries and wounds. Don't take them internally, though. Lots of drama about whether or not it's safe. External use, is A-OK!

I have White Tiger Balm as well. I think the stuff is amazing. xd
Ginko Biloba may also be helpful. It's believed that it helps blood circulation to the brain and extremities, and improve oxygen in the blood, thus helping to relieve leg cramps from the muscles. But if he tore the muscle, GB probably wouldn't help too much. sweatdrop

..So...it seems my dojang has a curse with hurting themselve... My friend had nerve damage in a foot, but got it fised, one hurt his toes, and other a sprain ankle...and my own ankle rolled over thrice in thre different directions about a month ago...people say I might have torn a tissue or something, and I can still feel some slight pain at the outer side of my leg.. and it's a b***h to hit something with a hard round house now, also it's still a bit inflated in some areas, A month! It's got me really worried now. I've never had any large injuries before, sprains, breaks nothing...
...So from past experiences, is this bad?... What should I do? Is there soething that can help with my problem? *doubts* sad

Is there soething that can help with my problem? *doubts* sad Soak your foot, ankle and all, in hot epson salt water. Also, alternate hot and cold every ten minutes- a hot pack, then a cold pack. It helps reduce swelling. And- if it hurts, don't. If it hurts to do a roundhouse, then don't do one. Martial arts injuries can be dangerous if you push the body through the pain... if it's been this long, it isn't something you should ignore. If it isn't feeling better shortly, you need to see a doctor to make sure you didn't crack or break something. ^_^
