• Voicing or muffled mark: は (ha) vs. ば (ba) • Occlusive Mark (“p” sound): は (ha) vs. ぱ (pa)

• The “a” as in father. • The “i” as in machine. • The “u” as in recuperate. • The “e” as in set. • The “o” as in cooperate. • The “g” as in get, but never gentle. • The “r” is pronounced in the Spanish fashion (NOT the trill) and would be pronounced like Sonora, Merida. • The “ch” as in church. • The “tsu” as in the tz-u of Ritz Uruguay.

Post #4: Writing Styles
There are two different writing styles, traditional and Western.
The traditional style is written vertically and from right to left. You will see this style used in newspapers, books, and manga, just to name a few. Using this style, the front cover of books and magazines are placed where we would normally find the back cover, and is thus read left to right.
The Western style you will be more familar with. It is done horizontally and from left to right.
