Ugh that movie made me MAD.
They totally demolished the entire story of Troy. I know, I know, they wanted to make it an event that COULD have happened (without the intervention of Gods and the like) but when I go to see a movie about Troy I want furious GODS wreaking choas. Rar.

Beware the Jabberwock Ugh that movie made me MAD.

Rar. I agree. Where were the gods?!?! Or the scene where Achilles dresses up as a GIRL? Also, I know Brad Pitt is awesome to LOOK AT, but why was the whole movie about him? It should've been more appropriately named ACHILLES, but even then, they missed some good stuff on him. It was quite a disappointing movie overall. The only thing I liked was seeing Brad Pitt with no clothes on. But even that only entertains so much. sad

I watched it.
And, even with its gaping flesh wounds, it wasn't too shabby.
Sean Bean was excellent as Odysseus. Eric Bana was superb as Hector (and made you want to cheer for the Trojans). The great Peter O'Toole as King Priam did just about the same for you. The actors who played Helen of Troy and Achilles' cousin (the name currently escapes me) were mediocre -- and that's saying something. Orlando Bloom as Paris was horrible.
Achilles wasn't too bad. I liked seeing the relationship between Achilles and Odysseus and Achilles and Agamemnon. I think they did that fairly well.
The non-presence of the gods left me hanging a bit, but I think it is very hard to put mythology on the big screen. You'd probably have the Christians down your throats as director and producer.

I saw it...and I still say the book and tales are better than that. I really can't imagine Pitt being there as Achilles. I just can't. X_X

You'd probably have the Christians down your throats as director and producer. Hmm...maybe. Too bad Troy wasn't released recently, because then we could've thrown Brokeback Mountain into such a down-your-throats crowd and leave them thoroughly distracted. Then Troy could have what it should have had in the first place... gods...many, many, gods. Well, anyway... I'm not too sure if a significantly large-enough group would've reacted to Troy if it had godplay. Despite some of the fanatical viewpoints out there, most people do have at least some respect for the Greeks and the classics. Nah...it's just...cheap Hollywood-ism. That's all it is. Whatever that is.

I saw Troy and really was not impressed. Though they had big names and some great acting, they also had Orlando Bloom way out of his depth trying to play one half of a passionate affair.
Plus they completely fudged the whole mythology and folklore. Perhaps they thought that some people don't have the brains to understand... The only place that the Gods were mentioned was on the second DVD in the box, where there were snippets about each one. More people would probably have seen it if it had been mythologically accurate, in my opinion.
And this forum is supposed to be about mythology. Not going on about actors that you fancy.

I didn't see it but I wanted to. One time I took a quick peek in a room that was playing it at the theatre while seeing Harry Potter. It was the end when Orlando shot him. It looked cool then, but later I heard some bad reviews and I don't want to see it now. Even if Orlando is in it.

Actually, it's about anything pertaining to mythology, or the allusions of which they show. I mean, we COULD talk about Star Wars, if you'd rather. 3nodding

Ok, haven't seen the third Star Wars at all so whatever you say will be going straight over my head. The only part I remember was a storm trooper bashing his head and falling over. (Confused? Meh, even I am.)
Anyway, I have no problem with Brad Pitt per se, just... the loveheart? Please. He didn't make too bad an Achilles, but yes, the movie was supposed to be about Troy rather than Achilles and his love affairs (which I think got far too much mention). Did they also forget that Achilles was gay?

I thought Bana's Hector really helped bring the movie along. Bloom just made Paris way too easy to hate, what with that face he always makes like he's tweaked out or just not all there. I think it's him trying to look pensive.
So there was whiny, annoying, dishonourable Paris hiding behind Hector. And wow, that made Hector look even better! Hector was honourable, proud, stable, and a loving family man. After he died I just kinda zoned out the rest of the movie and lost interest. I mean, Bean's Odysseus was good, but he was a very minor character (which is too bad); and O'Toole (loved him in Lawrence of Arabia, but that's straying from the point) was a delightfully spacey, not-all-there Priam... but again, more of a background role.
