When I started watching Dan when he was 3 and not potty trained so I jumped on that right away. I bought a bag of M&Ms and told him whenever you potty like a big boy you gat a pinch of these. Since he was 3 this appealed to him. Hes potty trained for the day now but I think his parents still have him wearing pullups at night *shrugs* You can't win um all

I teach two-year olds, so many things we do in our class are getting those kids ready for the pre-school room and used to the idea of school, which the biggest of these is potty training, because once a kid gets the hang of using the bathroom and washing their hands by themselves, the rest just seems to fall into place.

I cheat though and most if not all girls are in underwear by december (we get the new class in Aug each year) with the boys coming in around march or so.
This year's a bit advanced... most everyone's in underwear now, but I think it's due to having a smaller class than usual.

How I cheat is peer pressure. The bathroom is in our class, and we do hourly checks... and everyone who's dry and uses the potty gets a star sticker. Once they know their friend has a sticker, they really want one, so the next check, they're usually dry and go in the potty.

Oddly enough those stickers don't make it from check to check...

Now I get to potty-train my child, and while I can't use the peer pressure at home, I still plan on doing the hourly checks and star stickers. Between that and school, she might get it.

As for letting the parents know what time to bring underwear, we tell the parents to pack many, many changes of clothes, including shoes. So long as they're willing to do laundry, we clean up after all accidents. And most children only have a few accidents before understanding what's happening. BM's are a bit more difficult, but most children have their bm's around the same time each day, so it's just a matter of timing for those.

I do put on pull-ups during naptime until I know the child can wake up in time to go to the bathroom. Bed-wetting is a horribly traumatizing thing, and I don't like to contribute to it. Usually I take off the pull-up if the child in question has been dry for nap for a few days in a roll though.

Hope that helped!

my daughter will only go potty on the potty if she's in underwear. She seems to think that a diaper (even the cool alert pull ups) means she can play and play and play xd

I think part of my daughters issue is she was potty training young because SHE wanted to. But family and children services demanded I stop because I was "pressuring her" so my advice is if your kid WANTS to go on the potty let them don't ever think they are "too young" because EVERY child is different.

I agree, I plan to begin teaching my daughter as soon as she can walk since she crys so much whenever she wets her diaper now anyway

I'm sooo ready to potty train my son but I don't think he is ready yet. I got a book and we read about the potty but so far he hasn't shown any signs of knowing when he is going in his diaper.

I don't belive the methods used to potty train a infant are worth the effort or time. Its basicly holding a baby on a toilet a couple times a day so as the baby grows up they relate the toilet to normal potty habbits the same way they would noramlly to a pullup or diaper. It just seems....wrong to me

I think pullups are for teaching dressing. Not for teaching potty. However I find it is much easier to teach potty training if I teach a child to dress first!

It is possible to potty train a baby I will include the link to diaper free baby. I haven't personaly done it but I have heard of people who have.
