Oh Em Gee. I love hunters. I honest to gods LOVE them.

Why?

For the longest time, all of my toons were some kind of magic-related class. Warlocks, Mages, whatever. And while hunters USE mana, they don't completely rely on it. It's really nice to know that if I run out of mana in a fight, I'm not completely doomed.

But that's not the only thing I like better about a hunter than a mage...

While they can't wear mail, like paladins or warriors, they CAN wear leather. It's a big step up from cloth armor, and keeps me alive much easier.

I absolutely love long-ranged weapons. It's true that my warlock has some attacks she can use at a distance, and many other classes can LEARN things like crossbows. However, the hunter has autoshot. All I have to do is click my target, and as soon as she gets close enough, she attacks. Her use of a bow has saved me many times, and it really comes in handy when you're dealing with baddies who try to RUN from you before they die.

But perhaps the thing I like MOST about a hunter is the PET.

Oooooh yes. The pet.

Not only does your pet seriously help your chances of survival in battle (both by aiding in your attack power AND often taking the focus of the enemy off of you) but I am a collector.

Always with a new hunter, it becomes my mission to find a fun, unexpected pet. Such as my Draenei's pet serpent. Or, before the serpent, I took her all the way to Elwynn for a prowler. I never just get the obvious, handy pet. I always travel and/or suffer to get one that is better than the rest.

It's enjoyable, and it makes for a head-turner whenever you're around other players. I have only seen another player with a serpent for a pet twice in all my time playing. And one was about twenty levels higher than I was. So it makes me feel pretty awesome.

Discuss:

What do YOU love about hunters?
What do you DISlike about them?
What's your favorite pet?
Is autoshot amazing or what?

LOL. I hate it when it's PVP and I'm against a hunter, because most of them use long range weapons which is annoying. I remember one time I was a warrior, so I had to get up close and personal but the guy I was trying to beat kept backing away.

Eventually he won.

Sad thing is, I was a level 20 at the time and he was a level 15. D:

That is so true. But it's also one of the things I love about BEING a hunter. A lot of the time, I can have the enemy's health half down before they even reach me. It's excellent. XD

I love hunters as well. Especially the pet part. I even did a quest that wasn't required in order to get a White Lion just so I could have a rare skin pet. Oh, funny story about that. So I wanted Humar the Black Lion as well. To have a sort of set. Black and White. Salt and Pepper. So I camped out his tree for about a day, going about and cleaning my house, doing my laundry, etc. and checking in every so often to see if he had respawned. He takes FOREVER to respawn! Eventually I gave up and went and grabbed a Scorpid for a tank pet.

Then today I was down in Ratchet doing random quests that really didn't do much to give me experience but raised my reputation when I thought I'd take a quick peek up there just in case. Guess what? He was there. I quickly abandoned my scorpid and tamed the sucker before anyone else came along.

I now have a Black Lion and a White Lion for a pet. Kick a**! Named the White Lion "Sigfried" and the Black Lion "Caethulu".

I like cats even if they are common as pets. Why? Because they do so much damage. I barely have to shoot an enemy before my kitty has it mauled to death. Plus every now and then it startles me when they growl unexpectedly and then I laugh at myself.

What do I dislike, you ask? About the only thing I can think of that I don't like about Hunters is that they can't wear mail. Of course leather is a HUGE step up from cloth and hunters rarely get aggroed as long as you know what you're doing, so leather isn't so bad after all. I had my hunter learn the leather making and skinning skills so I could make my own armor. Still working on the leather making.

And yes, Autoshot is amazing! I'll play as one of my lower characters just for a change of pace and click on the enemy and wonder why I'm not attacking them. I rely heavily on Autoshot.

A hunter can eventually wear mail. But it's a lot of levels and training down the road. I agree with you, though. It sucks not being able to wear it. But at least leather is a step up from cloth.

As for the black lion story, last I'd heard was when you'd given up and went to get the scorpid. Awesome. ^_^

I absolutely ADORE being a hunter--really because I get to sick my pet on an enemy while I'm at a safe distance shooting arrows in thier arse. Its also nifty to save a friend by just sending off my pet to maul the monster off them. xD Yea, I love pets!
My trolls pet is a raptor--typical, I know, but I actually thought it out. I wanted a small pet to run around with that was cool looking to me--I thought the tall, feathery raptors outside of ogrimmar were perfect. xD He really is the best pet--he's super fast and usually a fight with something two or three levels above me doesnt last long. o0o But if I could get a new one, it'd be one of those lightning lizards...those things are HUGE~! (And so cute in a wierd way...xvX) The earth shakes when they walk--xD I'd scare people walking around with him trailing behind
Having no mail does kind of suck, but I'm just so glad its not cloth. =.= One of the many reasons I dont like being a magic user was the sucky armor...you run out of mana, and you're screwed. x.x

When Cataclysm comes, Hunters will no longer have mana, they will have "Focus" an energy system related to what hunter pets and rogues have. Blizzard wanted them to me more of a "Ranged" class than a "Magic" class. Another thing is, no more ammo. That's right, they're removing ammo from the game in the next expansion. That will be a bummer for engineers that make their own bullets. And starting hunters will start out with a pet that goes along with his/her race; they can't change pets until lvl 10.

I play as a hunter, MM spec. I'm glad that ammo and mana will not be needed. It will save all of us a lot of money.

Think of the new Energy hunters get as the energy a Rogue uses, or a Druid in cat form. Much better than mana as it recharges.

It will official be called: Focus. But it will work like a rogue/kittydruid 's energy does, except some of the hunter's ability's will replenish some of the hunter's focus when used; like I think steady shot has that property.

If your case included being in a Battleground when that happened you should have learned this lesson: Never do "solo" missions. Since you're a warrior, if you run up against someone who is ranged or magic based, you're screwed. Also it depends on the build..

I love my hunter, I consider it my "second main".

My pet is a wolf, solely because their Furious Howl buff is exclusive to wolves.

My main is a Draenei Hunter, mostly because my original main was a Draenei Paladin, and I was still pretty green, trying out different characters... I liked the Paladin.... And being a tank...

However, most of the people I group with are Horde on Firetree, so as long as I was dicking around on Emerald Dream, I figured get a good character for Soloing.

That was a while ago. Now, I only use him and my Tauren Warrior. And, luck would have it, I found people on Emerald Dream who don't suck (suck as people I mean, I could care less if they suck at the game AS LONG AS they have common sense) so I can group with them.

I have a cat named Cat. Originally because I didn't know how to name it, but the name itself has grown on me quite a bit.
