Now I'm not saying Tigrex is a lousy monster. In fact it's at such a high level of pwnage that charts do not apply. But I H-A-T-E fighting it. I play multiplayer with my cousin for most big monsters because I'm still a little unsure on my own. (hence the fact I've done over 40 abandons) But I managed a blangonga on my own, but that was only after reaching hunter rank 3. so it was pretty easy by then. But Tirgex is INSANE! Does anyone have advice for me?

Pack your gear and move to kokoto my friend.
Just kidding! To be honest I couldn't beat tiggy on my own either , mainly for the fact that he has some serious combo skills.
My advice to you is either get your cousin and tag team it
or bring as much as you can to immobilize it ty making sleep throw knives with the knives you can get from area 7 (On the right side of the tent) and use bait likedrugged meat to lure it into a crazy bomb trap

Tigrex are not so bad if you do some preparation. They may seem ungodly powerful and cheap but they are that way because of the sheer power of their weapons and armor.

Tigrex hints:
-They are weak to thunder
-I have noticed that shock traps immobilize them longer than pitfalls
-They can run into hard walls and get stuck allowing easy shots
-The face and tail are breakable
-Flashbombs!!! for if you want to be cheap (I use 'em)
-The desert quests involving tigrex were easier for me due to more space to move around unlike the confined ledges of the snowy mountains.

My tips:
- I am a longsword user so I use the Eager Cleaver and up set
- Go to the Monsterhunter wiki and look up Tigrex. There is a guide to killing it with greatswords which is do-able and actually easy. It is a matter of good timing
- I do not use dual swords or SnS due to lack of range.
- I beat it while still HR1 using full Blango armor and Eager cleaver. My subsequent tigrex farming runs have been with full Kirin armor and Kirin Thundersword (GS) or Eager Cleaver (LS)

id have to say for a hr3 rank to get maybe full centuran or w/e the blue crab armour and thats wat i took and maybe a sliengeide but anyways its easy with a great sword with decent power and green, u just gotta kill it a few times or atleast die a few times lol and u should get use to dodging and make sure u have high stamina for blocking incase u cant get away in time

Wow I'm replying late to this thread but hey!

For its rank Tigrex is one of the tougher guys unfortunately. I used a Gun Lance with Guard +2 armor and I somehow managed to solo it, one of the times I actually felt awesome that I soloed a monster.

Heres a few points random points (borrowing your format Trueblade if you don't mind) :
- Guard +1 or +2 is your friend for blocking weapons. (You need 20 points for Guard+2 in MHFU unlike in MHF2. )
- Guard Inc is not needed for any of its attacks. Just not to confuse the skills.
- Optional: Mega/Power Juice = infinite stamina = no worries blocking and running.
- When he's charging and you successfully block, try to poke his tail as he goes by, just for the extra hit. Very easy when he has his tail on.
- Moving + Blocking = stamina recovery. If you don't feel safe just block and move. Doesn't recover stamina as fast as walking around but hey better safe then sorry~
- In the top area all the way north in the Snow Mountains where he first spawns (forget the number) and a few other maps in Desert you can ledge him (get a monster stuck in a part of the terrain) if you don't break his face two times.
