In this society, everyone has a guardian angel (GA for short), even if they don't believe in angels. These angels remain unseen for the most part, influencing their human indirectly. Occasionally, though, an angel will become corporeal (visible and solid) when they are needed. But their human does not know that the person they are seeing is an angel. If a GA interferes directly and their human finds out about them, the GA gets their wings clipped (so to speak). When this happens, they lose certain abilities, but they also keep some. They cannot die, they cannot use magic, they have superhuman strength, and they need to eat and sleep. As a full-fledged angel, though, they do not need to eat and sleep, they can use some magic, and they have the ability to become invisible/incorporeal. Clipped or not, they are always über-hot. Girls have male angels and guys have female angels.
Lately, crime has increased in the city. This means that GA's have been working harder than usual and more and more have gotten their wings clipped from interfering directly to help their human. The crimes seem to be connected to the Vampires. However, many blame the Shifters for the crimes. Most humans do not trust Shifters, whatever they may be (ex: werewolf, werecat, werebear, weredeer, etc...). The Vampires (called Eternals) are wealthy and have great influence in the government. This allows them to divert the public's attention to the Shifters and remain (for the most part) unconnected to the crimes (or so the people think).
