Gender: Female
Age: 22
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Green Rider / Searchrider
Appearance: Kentan is about 5'7'' tall and very thin. She doesn't have a particularly feminine appearance because she's so skinny, her chest is almost flat and her hips are a little bony, but she has very soft skin and an angelic face. Wide warm-brown eyes give her a childish appearance even though she is 20 turns old. Her dark brown hair is short so it can fit under her helmet, but it has decent volume and a slight curl to it.
Personality: Kentan is quiet. almost unnaturally so, but very kind. She communicates effectively enough with her body language and facial expressions, only speaking when it would be rude not to or when she has something important to say. She possesses a degree of empathy and consideration that is unusual, but she is also easily intimidated and bullied. Seeing anything in pain, whether it is physical or emotional, is intolerable for her. She can't resist attempting to aid the person/creature that is suffering. Like her weyrmate she possess a joy in music that helps her stay cheerful and optimistic. She gives her love freely to anyone who comes to her for help, especially young children - who she treats with tender care as if they were her own. Kentan is the kind of person who can comfort others simply by being there with them. Romantically she is loyal to M'ran, though. You will never see this woman angry or hear her raise her voice, she is exceedingly patient. If someone misbehaves or acts cruelly she will not yell, but she has a way of looking at even the most shameless offenders that makes them feel guilt to a minor or major degree.
History: Kentan was born in the weyr and raised by her mother, a greenrider, who was devoted enough to family not to give her daughter up. This was possible because Thread was not falling yet and dragonriders weren't fighting every other day. Kentan did not speak at all until she was four turns old, and even then she only used short sentences. Her mother's fears that she might be mentally subnormal were unfounded: in school Kentan performed beautifully, even if she was a little shy. There were a few other kids in particular who made her a target of bullying, but she never told anyone until she was 10 and the group actually harmed her physically - then it was only her mother she informed. The furious mother went straight to the weyrleaders when she found out how long it had been going on, absolutely raving mad with indignant, righteous anger on her daughter's behalf. Kentan was never assaulted again, but the group never really left her alone, either. Her greatest moment, and her triumph against them, was when they were left standing on the sands and she was chosen by Relenath: Kentan had not been accepted as a candidate due to her young age and was watching from the stands.
Being so young it was difficult for Kentan to deal with many of the aspects of a dragonrider's life. Weyrling training was a constant physical struggle for her, though she did her best not to fall behind too much. She suffered from bad sprains several times, all caused by pushing herself too hard trying to keep up with older and much stronger weyrlings. Since tendons don't heal quite the same way that muscles do she now has to be careful not to stress herself too much or the damage will get worse. Kentan performs regular stretching excersizes to keep the damaged tendons loose and functional. So even though she is not very strong, nor will she ever be, she is flexible and knows a few tricks to help loosen muscles. It is, perhaps, a very good thing that Relenath is not a green that rises every other day. Being weyrbred also helped Kentan somewhat, but she was still quite young when her dragon began rising to mate. Kentan did her best to take it in stride, relying mostly on her dragon for support, but the whole situation made it very difficult for her to open up to other riders for a very long while. The fact that she was shy to begin with did not help much. Most of the riders were very understanding about it: indeed, Kentan is still good friends with one or two of them who were especially kind to her. M'ran, when he came along, was one of the only men who took enough time and was patient enough to deal with her fears completely, though. Part of his appeal to Kentan, even to this day, is that M'ran is just not a very lusty person: she knows that she can trust him absolutely.
Kentan was the greenrider who pronounced M'ran a suitable candidate, she was also the one who brought Ixiara to the weyr for the most recent hatching. Kentan and M'ran's relationship evolved slowly but surely until everyone who knew them automatically grouped them together. They don't spend a lot of time with one another, but Kentan is perhaps the only female who could stand being third on the list of M'ran's great loves. She is very patient with him and does not strive to pull him away from his work when he gets into one of his moods, and he, in turn, has come to understand Kentan almost as deeply as her dragon does.
Dragon: Relenath
Age: 8
Color: Green
Appearance: Relenath is a decent sized green, hovering exactly in the middle of the smallest and largest sizes her color can reach. Her wings, hide and tail are all colored with the same shades of green - blending in whorls smoothly from light to dark and back again. Her jaw and the underside of her neck are a very dark green.
Personality: Relenath is similar to Kentan but not as shy. She will rarely speak to humans but she is fairly friendly to other dragons. Relenath possesses the same compassion and understanding that her rider does and she can often be seen encouraging young weyrlings or comforting the sick and injured. She is good friends with the bronze Jekheth as a result since they have common ground in that area. Unusually, for a green, Relenath is not a particularly lusty dragon. No dragon in particular flew her with any regularity until Vidrienth, and since the two dragons mated Relenath has accepted only him. Vidrienth and Relenath are as close as their riders are, though they each respect one another's distance and space; a tendency that helps them get along while sharing a weyr. Relenath is unusually sensitive when it comes to sensing possible candidates.
