History/Design Features: Cirim was born a Mirai and orphaned at an early age. He and Dimer Morcel were close friends in their childhood, both having come from the Reach, the farthest edge of the Mirai home system. As they grew older, they worked closely together, conducting research into the integration of picocytes and organic organisms. However, shortly before the conclusion of their research, they had a falling out stemming from their different origins and Cirim's paranoia. They parted ways and Dimer discovered a process to convert his body to picocytes. Cirim also continued his research and instead discovered a way for picocytes to emulate organic tissue, thereby allowing the picocytes to replace organic systems over time as the organic systems age and fail.

Cirim is a racial purist. His childhood instilled a powerful belief in survival of the fittest. Cirim feels that the various races must not interact cooperatively or they will corrupt each other. Thus, the IPU and the Hall of Co-Aligned Planets are deeply offensive to Cirim and he is determined to dissolve them at any cost. Cirim believes that he is ultimately acting in the interest of the Unified Empire, but understands that his actions may never be openly supported or accepted by the Citizens Imperial. He has chosen to be the devil in order to ultimate achieve good.

There are many copies of each type, but the strongest of each type has a special position as a lieutenant of Cirim. Those three are named Phaeton, Selene, and Deimos, which are the basis for the names of each type. If one of these three is killed, the next strongest of the same type takes its place.
