This is a short story that I wrote. It's only about a page long, and I came up with it at about 4:30 one morning (damn insomnia!).
I don't feel that it's one of my better works, but it's decent, and I don't want to post anything excessively long in this guild quite yet.

The Wise Woman
By A.R. Tristend (AKA DreamerSpirit)

As the dawns first light reached over the peaks of the great mist-engulfed mountains and older woman sat by the edge of a cliff, her eyes closed. She was still and silent, as the damp and sweet-smelling mountain breeze tousled her long silver hair.

Suddenly She opened her mouth, and said in a quiet voice "What is it my child?"

A very beautiful young girl with silky black hair, probably around age sixteen or seventeen, then appeared from the rocks and brush of the mountainside behind the older woman.

"Why, how did you know I was approaching? I came in silence!" the young girl said in astonishment.

"I have my ways." Said the woman, still unmoving, "Now, my child, what is it that you seek?"

"Well, wise woman, I never seem quite fully happy. This happiness which I seek, how do I go about finding it?" the young girl replied.

"Simple." The wise woman replied, still unmoving, "The only way to find true happiness is to find true and pure love."

The young girl nodded and replied "Thank you for your words of wisdom elder." And headed off back to the nearby village where she lived.

In the following weeks the girl searched and searched again amongst the bachelors of the village, looking for anyone whom could possibly be this love which the wise woman has told her to search for.

Having no luck with this endeavor the girl returned to the wise woman, who also lived in the small mountain village.

"Wise woman," she said upon entering the wise woman's small hut, "I have had no luck in the search for this love which you have set me off to look for. Can you please give me a bit more advice to help me find it?"

The wise woman let out a rolling laugh.

"My dear child, this love which you've been searching for has been with you all along!"

The young girl looked perplexed by this comment.

"My dear," the wise woman continued upon seeing the girls confusion, "This love of which I speak, it can not only be found in the form of a lover, but in the form of a loving group of family and friends as well! This love, so deep and pure, can be found in so many forms! You simply need to learn to recognize it!"

The girl understood now. True happiness cannot exist without love, as love is what truly fuels happiness. However, love can exist in many forms, the love of family, the love of friends, the love of a mentor, the love of a lover. But, so long as one can find pure and true love, whatever the form, one can be truly happy.

i thought this was going to be one of those cliche'd love stories, but it wasn't! i think maybe you could try to make it more interesting and make it sound better, but other than that, i thought this was a pretty original idea. i liked it!
