So I was talking to one of my kinda-friends today in school... and when she saw my Twilight stuff in homeroom today she outright told me she hated Twilight!! gonk
So I was like, "How could you NOT like it? You read the book, right?"
And she said, "Yeah, but it sucked. (Seriously, she thought it SUCKED??) Edward's a 'pushover' and a total JERK and Bella is a COMPLETE Mary-Sue." She went on to tell me why she was a "Mary-Sue," saying stuff like "She's just an empty hole where teen girls can put themselves... and she has no flaws... (No flaws? Quite the opposite.)"
So I told her that she is NOT just a hole, and that she has REAL feelings for Edward and they're in true love.
( heart )
Yeah, so she was just like, "Riiiight..."
And the bell rang soon afterwards. I couldn't believe her nerve. Yeah, so I stayed away from her the rest of the day except to glower at her.
But seriously, Bella is a PERSON, not a self-insert. That was just downright WRONG.

That's interesting. My friends say the same thing but then I get to go at them with Harry Potter things and they stopped. But everyone has there own opinions so you can't hurt others because they see things differently.
Bella has a lot of flaws so I don't see where your friend came up with that.

well peopple do have their opinions and you just respect them, as they should respect yours... you can agree to disagreee
and about the movie and the book
I liked the movie but compared to the book it bombed, in my opinion. Because they ran every scene together and it never released Carlisles' or Esme story which introduces you sort of to the Volturi in the second book. But that's my opinion. The movie was good but it could have been better...

Well, in my opinion Bella is a totally unique character. I mean, how many times have you read a story like Twilight? She is NOT a Mary-Sue, and if she were, she'd have super-amazing ridiculous superpowers or something.
And as for Harry Potter, well I can't believe people can hate Twilight because it's "Mary-Sue" and not even look at HP!!! It's so dumb.
Anyway, people who hate Twilight have no idea what they're talking about.

Okay, for starters, CALM DOWN. It's not even a big freaking deal. If your friend doesn;t like Twilight then she doesn't like Twilight. Get over it. Her not liking Twlight does not give you reason to avoid her and glower at her all day, that makes you look obsessed.
And yes, Bella is a Mary-Sue. She is a complete pushover and completely dependent on others. She can't do anything on her own and she is a cry baby. That is known as a Mary-Sue, you cannot argue with any of those. She cries about everything. She depends on Edward for everything. She never says no to him. That's all there is to it.
Seriously though, relax. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and they can share it with whom ever they please, and not have to worry about having people let upset at them over a damn BOOK! Notice how I said BOOK? That's because it's a BOOK. Okay, a BOOK. It is completely childish to freak out over a book.
Don't get me wrong. I love Twilight. I've read all of the books 4 times. I adore the movie as well and I'm counting down days until New Moon comes out but good Lord, this is just ridiculous.

im ok with people not liking twilight. they have a right to their opinion. however, i hate it when they judge the book by what theyve heard or by the movie. they should read the entire thing for themselves before they form an opinion. also i hate it when people start talking to you about how much they hate twilight and how much it sucks when they know you love it. it only makes you angry and defensive.
i dont understand why someone would call bella a mary sue because she definitely has faults. and sometimes edward can be a pushover but thats pretty much only with bella. [and not even always with her. he is pretty stubborn.] anyways, arent most guys pushovers with their girlfriends/wives?

See, the thing is, everyone is throwing this Mary-Sue term without knowing what a Mary-Sue is. A Mary-Sue is not someone that has no flaws. A Mary-Sue is someone that can't do anything on her own. Someone who is dependent on other people. Bella is a Mary-Sue. She has Edward and he does everything for her, Edward leaves and she jumps to Jacob. She is never on her own, doing things on her own.

Bella is a Mary-Sue really. She finds herself unattractive, when clearly she's not with every student in the school wanting to be her friend or her boyfriend. Meyer would like us to believe that she is intelligent and selfless, really when do we see this intelligence or selflessness. It seems as if she wants to make her selfless, but from what I interpret she She has no acknowledged flaws, except for clumsiness, which instead endears herself to the reader and giving an opportunity for Edward to save her. And Edward, my god he is such a Gary Stu. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy reading the Twilight series but the characters are pretty flat. I am still going to watch the New Moon movie.
