It depends how old they are and how many tattoos they have.

In my opinion, you have way too many for your age.
If you had one, it'd be a different story. This is coming from a 16-year-old.

I think, by age 18, you should be able to have about 3 tattoos. No more.

It seems like way too many for such a young age. I really think that you shouldn't have any before age 18. Your tastes can change so quickly when you are young and tattoos are a serious commitment. Hopefully you were wise enough to have them put in areas that can be covered up because it won't be easy to be young, tattooed and looking for serious work that can pay the bills.

Also, I am very open minded as a mother concerning tattoos, but my kids didn't get their first ones until they were at least 18. I was 38 before I got my first one and I now have six and plan on more, but even at my age I know I need to be discrete to a point. I'm not going to let others dictate my life just because of my tattoos, but in turn I'm not going to be stupid and set myself up for failure. Because like it or not there is discrimination and my family isn't going to starve because I want to be different. Balance can be found and like I said, I hope you were wise in your placement choices and if I were you, I'd hold off on getting anymore until I was more established in life or at least keep them in areas that can be covered if needed.

I had my first tat at the age of 14,and now I have 7 piercings with several more tattoos along the way^^
(I am turning 18 soon)
I love the idea that one gets to express themselves,I just hope they are smart about it and protecting their future as well.<333

It depends on how level-headed said teen is. What they're getting(or got)/how many they have/what that tattoo means to them. I wanted a tramp stamp since I was 14. When I was 19 I finally got it.

I know every single tattoo I want, but I don't dare get them all just because I have the money. I want to make sure that each and every tattoo is placed with the utmost care. I don't want to rush them.

However, I know several people (teen or not) that were just getting whatever they wanted tattooed. My friend has gotten four in the past year and I took her to get her last two. The first two she got on the same day (they were a set, one on the left leg was her sisters' names, one on the right was her brothers' names)... the last two she got were within two months of each other and the last time she went, after I dropped her off, within two hours she txt'd me saying she had an appointment for her next tattoo already.

I was livid. She's just inking herself up with no thought or care.

however, it's her body and if she wants to ink it up only to regret it later, that's her problem, I just hope she won't regret it, or that she'll wise up before it's too late.

But I see people all the time coming into the tat shop I go into and they don't know what they want, don't have any idea where they want to put it, didn't decide they wanted it til an hour before hand... they end up getting something totally random chosen off the flash.

I believe tattoos should be purposeful and meaningful and I hate that a lot of people(especially teens) want tattoos just because they're cool, or the teen wants to "express" their self... If they really wanted to express themselves then they would wait until they know who they are. You don't usually find out who you truly are until you're older and have experienced the world for what it is. Hell, I don't even know who I am and I'm in college, still at my parents', dating my fiance, have my future paths mapped out depending on what happens with this coming year. I would never get something that defined me without knowing me. My tattoo is my zodiac. That I know will never change.
