About a month after the illness had started spreading, and L'von had fallen ill and since recovered

Levon sat staring at the wall of the lower caverns. He had physically recovered from the illness that had run rampant through the weyr. Emotionally, on the other hand he was a mess. Usually sharp-tongued and ambitious the young man had become reclusive and quiet since his dragon had went between. He had taken to hiding out alone in the lower caverns with a skin of stolen wine.

He felt the comforting pressure of his green firelizard Hero on his shoulder, as he reached out with his mind, hoping for some echo in return. When there was no echo he lifted the wineskin to his lips and took a deep drink, no longer noticing the acidic and bitter aftertaste.

With his free hand, the blonde reached up and stroked the green firelizard’s head, when he heard footsteps behind him.

Aimless wandering. Looking possibly for the empty space in her mind. A vain search. Nothing seemed to matter any more, except for the two lizards on her shoulders. One of which was still pretty weak, no longer able to fly. Maybe he'll be able to glide or travel very short distances. She didn't know. Her feet might, since they always seem to be guiding her everywhere these days.

Minno looked up. There was a familiar blonde head with a green firelizard on his shoulder. She had befriended this boy shortly after Tertiath- dear Tertiath- had a tremendous day at the lake with his dragon, Sukarth. Tertiath though, and apparently his dragon, had succumbed to the disease. She forgot whose had gone between first, but it was terribly, indescribably, painful nonetheless.

Ever since that day, the shy, pleasant, and friendly girl Minno had once been, had become a hollow, and sometimes very angry person. The pain of that day, made her want to take the jump between, but her two firelizards wouldn't have it. At least they still cared enough to live.

"Can I have some?" her voice sounded dead.

Levon looked and saw that it was Minno who'd approached him. She was probably the only person who understood what he was going through at the moment, but the last person he wanted to see.

Seeing her reminded him of his dear Sukarth, because of the day their dragons had bonded at the lake.

With a grunt he handed over the wineskin, knowing she felt the need to dull her senses as well.

"I don't know what to do." Levon finally said, after sitting in silence for a few minutes with the girl. "Everything is so quiet, it's lonely. I don't know how I lived my life before him. The seven months I had were the greatest in my life, but I wish I'd have never impressed if I knew it was going to be such a short time."

As he said the part about wishing he'd never impressed he knew it was a lie. The impression was the best thing that happened to him. He had yet to write a letter to his parents telling them of the tragedy that had befallen him.

She took a big gulp. Quith didn't approve, Minno didn't care. She sat there beside him for a few minutes. Quiet, pondering. Mind-less pondering. She didn't normally drink wine, actually this was the first time that she had. It had a bitter after taste. But bitter is how she felt.

"I don't know either," she said like a who's admitting defeat by not knowing. "I'm not sure whether it'd be better having a dragon for a few weeks or many turns...Or not at all." Capna chirped in heavy disagreement. Sure the firelizards had felt a small impact from the death of their bonded's dragon. They were all intertwined somehow.

Minno took another gulp of wine before handing the skin back to Levon.

She wanted nothing more than to hug the neck of her Tertiath. The empty spot in her mind sorrowfully let her know that it was something she'd never be able to do again.

It was weird, Levon thought. Sitting and drinking with Minno. As painful as he thought it would be to have her around it was the opposite. It was calming presence in a bizarre sort of way.

He took the wine skin back from her, and sat in silence for a moment before his lifted the skin, and took another deep draught. "Do you think we will ever get over this?" He asked. Levon ran his hands through his blonde hair before resting his forehead in them, shaking his head. "I miss him, I miss him so much it's killing me inside."

"I don't know," Minno answered. "I miss mine too."

She looked at him with empty eyes. Minno had three "moods" that she'd go through. Emotionless, bitter, and angry. From being bitter just a moment ago, she now felt nothing except for the worry and pain that came from her flits. Then a small distant tune came into her head.

Minno tilted her head slightly, trying to identify where it was coming from. Unbeknownst to her, Quith was pulling up a song from her childhood memories.

"Do you remember," she started as Capna slid from her shoulder into her lap. "One of those songs about Brekke, from the 9th pass? Maybe one day, we'll end up like her. Happy."

"Maybe." Levon replied monotone. "But we are better off than she was. We already have our flits." After a pause and another swig of the wine Levon replied, "I don't know if I'm strong enough to stay at the weyr." He ran his hands through his hair and looked down at the floor. "Do you think there is any use for me?"

Silence was Minno's answer for a few minutes. Empty thoughts running through her head. She took the wineskin to see if they'd stop when the wine was drunk.

Well, those thoughts slowed down a bit. She drank a little more.

Minno then began to stroke Capna's soft hide. Soft as it was, she could feel some of his bones. The Plague had taken a lot out of him. Out of all of them.

"I don't know," she said at last. "I feel like I can't go back home. My place is no longer there."

"They weyr feels like home to me." Levon said after a while. "Living in a trading family, we went from place to place. Never staying too long at one place or another. Always on the road."

Levon felt Hero's claws dig into his shoulder as he said that. He reached up and loosened the green's grip, and moved her. Holding her close to his chest. A silent tear rolled down Levon's face, as he realized he was going to stay at the weyr. "It may be painful here, but at least it's home." Levon finally said.

Minno closed her eyes and leaned back. Talking was beginning to hurt again. She drank a little more wine and placed the skin in-between them.

Had it really been just a couple weeks ago that both their dragons went between? And a few more before that when their dragons had the time of their lives? This plague... it, it really didn't care who it touched. Shards.

Why'd she have to come to this Weyr? What did the search dragons see in her? If she had stayed at Fort... shards, that wouldn't have done her any good either. Minno let out a dead groan. Is there any escape?
