Welcome to the Gryffindor Common Room!
Gryffindor Tower, entrance on the seventh floor
The entrance is located behind a large painting of a Fat Lady in a pink silk dress. If you know the right password to tell her, she swings open to reveal a round opening in the wall. The common room contains a lot of squashy armchairs, a fireplace, and tables. The fireplace is connected to the Floo Network, but as it is extremely public except in the dead of night, Gryffindors usually use owls to communicate with their families instead. There's also a notice board, for public announcements such as the date of the next Hogsmeade weekend, but also for notices from individual students seeking to buy or sell secondhand books, or trade Chocolate Frog cards, or similar, as in any school.
There are two staircases opening off the common room into the Tower itself: the boys' staircase, on which the seven boys' dormitories are located (one for each year) and the girls' staircase, on which the seven girls' dormitories are located (one for each year). The girls' staircase is under a spell so that if a boy sets foot on it and persists for a few steps, a wailing klaxon goes off and the staircase temporarily Transfigures itself into a stone slide, sending him and anyone else on the stairs sailing to the bottom. According to Hogwarts: A History, the founders believed that girls were more trustworthy than boys, so that while the girls' staircase is enchanted to prevent boys from getting in, the boys' staircase does not carry a reciprocal enchantment (OP17). Each dormitory is a round room with windows looking out onto the grounds, and containing four-poster beds.

*walks into boys dormitory for 6th years, im wearing a pair of black jeans and a pair of black and white sneakers, my shirt is black with a black and white smiley face on it. On my shoulder is my cat, Sage, who is 2 1/2 years old and his black as midnight. He has green eyes that look all knowing. I notice that Armando has taken a bed two beds down to the right of the door. I take the bed to the right of his and to the left of the door.*
"Hey Armando, see that you are already getting settled."
*I start to put my things away in the dresser to the right of the bed as well and put my trunk at the foot of my bed.*
*Sage jumps off my shoulder onto my bed, where he sits up right like statue and watches Armando.*

Natalie walked, undetered, into the boys dormitory. She was grinning as she plopped herself down on one of the as of yet unclaimed beds.
"Still unpacking I assume? I got my unpacking done ages ago. I learned this nifty little spell for it. My name is Natalie by the way. It's a pleasure to meet you two"

"Hello Natalie. Im Alex and this is Sage."
*Sage turns and looks at Natalie. He gives her a brief grin and nods.*
"Don't be alarmed by Sage. He's my familiar, so he can talk, nod, smile and much more. He doesnt talk much but he likes pudding. I might fancy some myself in a bit."

Natalie leans her head to the side to get a better look at Sage.
"A familiar eh? I've read about those, never seen one before though, can I touch it?"

Natalie grins and practically squeals with excitement as she leaps off the bed and bounces over to Sage. She then tentatively reaches out her hand to carefully stroke his soft black fur.
