Vast chamber with an enchanted ceiling that mirrors the sky outside. Four long tables for the four houses. Closest to the doors from the Entrance Hall is Slytherin, then Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and next to the far wall, Gryffindor (this order may possibly be reversed, depending on how you orient the room to the entrance hall). The teachers sit at the High Table, a table on a raised platform at the front of the room.
A door behind the staff table allows a person to enter the Great Hall from outside without going through the main entrance (Hagrid enters this way to the welcoming feast in GF12); it isn't clear if this is the same door as the one leading into the antechamber.
There are windows into this room from the lawn outside

Haley stood up from behind the staff table.
"I'm sorry to interrupt what I am sure is a wonderful meal, but I have an announcement to make." She paused, waiting for reaction from the students.

Henry entered the great hall and headed towards the slytherin table. Purposefully sitting as far away from Elizabeth as possible.

"It has been brought to my attention that Hogwarts has not had a dance in many years. We are thinking about having a dance for Halloween, and want to know what you think!"

Rose raised her hand and spoke: "That sounds like a great deal of fun to me," she smiled.

Cassidy was sitting at the Hufflepuff table, stabbing at her food and only half listening to the headmaster. Her head shot up in horror when she heard the word 'dance'. She gave a quiet groan of anger. That Ravenclaw girl seemed excited. "Ravenclaws equals bookworm." She muttered under her breath. She hoped this would end soon. She still had to unpack.

"I know many of you don't like dances," Haley said, "but this dance is very informal. The only requirements are that you dress up and have a good time."

"Informal, huh?" Cassidy thought aloud. "I suppose I'll live." She looked at the headmistress. "That wouldn't be a bad idea." She called out.

Haley looked around, to see who called out. She smiled at Viola and said, "Glad to hear you like the idea."

Haley smiled kindly towards Viola, knowing what it felt like to be shy. After all, Haley had been a quiet Ravenclaw before she became headmaster.

Henry glared at Elizabeth. He KNEW this had to be her idea. She knew he was an absolute failure when it came to dancing. Throwing his bread roll at his plate having only taken a few bites of it he stood to leave the hall. Perhaps he would head to the library, maybe a bit of research could improve his abismal dancing skills.
