My son is becoming a picky eater! Help! He will eat pancakes and sausage for breakfast, a PB & J for lunch and fish sticks for dinner. I'm looking for new things for him to try to see if I can expand on the things he likes. Any ideas?

Hm to kids looks are important. I use to put little bits of food die into things to make it "attractive". like pink eggs or blue pancakes. lol Ummmm Natela (sp) is good, its like a vit. filled nut spread that taste kinda choco-ish. Pediash makes chocolate milk too for kids that under eat. I'll look up some stuff for ya. I PM it to robot but just incase anyone else needs this too, its a awesome site http://kidshealth.org/kid/

my opinion(and I'm what my mother calls a mean mom) I suggest you make somehting that can sit out for about an hour and tell them they can't have anything else to eat unless they eat their _____. I do it to my daughter (3) and if she doesn't eat her dinner she goes to bed "hungry" but we still snack alot/graze so I know she's fine, you know? Thats my suggestion for picky eaters, add small healthy snacks between meals and do your best to make things they can still eat when they decided they are willing to try (30min-an hour) later. Thats what I do cause my daughter is a whole different child since we moved in with my parents because my mother is a wuss and gives in to her every whim, she doesn't even sleep by herself anymore kind of spoiled and she's ALWAYS slept by herself. So I stick to a scheduel (nothing written in stone) to get her out of her picky bad habits.

Maybe picky-eater wasn't the right words.
If he doesn't like something he throws it on the floor when he's in the high chair. When he's sitting at the table he'll just leave if he's done eating. I know that he's going to eat enough for his body, I'm just looking for more options.
For breakfast, he will eat bananas, waffles, and as a treat an unfrosted pop tart along with the pancakes and sausage. He used to like eggs but won't eat them now.
For a snack, he will eat fruit snacks, raisins, cheese puffs, crackers, cheese sticks.
For lunch he will eat a PB&J, a lunchables and fish sticks. He used to like chicken nuggets but just takes one bite of them now and throws them.
For dinner he will eat chicken breast, mixed veggies, fish and spaghetti.
I'm an adventurous eater but my husband isn't. His mother made him sit at the table until the food had gone cold and never made him anything different if he didn't like the food and now I can't get him to try anything new. I don't want to make Alex the same way. I'm just looking for ideas of things to try so his diet is more well rounded.

Alex wants whatever Matt is eating. They will sit on the couch and eat ice cream together which is cute but not what I had in mind for dinner!

Alex is still a ways off from holding any sort of conversation.
But every word he learns is a step closer.
So far we have, cup, car, cookie, daddy, kitty and on the rare side momma.

4 andarobot..refresh my memory...How old is your little guy?
My suggestions with picky eaters are as fallows: they throw food on the floor.the meal is over. You wash them up and put them down. It is not time to eat again until the next meal. PERIOD. Meals and snacks here are served at 8:30a for breakfast, 11:30 for lunch and 3:00p for snack and5:45 for dinner and 7:30 for evening snack. There is always food later. I try not to make food a big deal beacuse what we do now affects the children having food issues later.
Meals are always balanced.I do things to make them appealing to the kids such as thingsthat smell good and take a while to cook. That smell works wonders on them. I also always sit down and eat with the children. demonstrating the behaviour I want them to emulate
I do work to put somthing in each meal that Ivknow a child likes. Like their favorite fruit or curly noodles or whatever I can get the child interested in.
As soon as they are old enough I have them help cook. It gives them ownership and choices. I let them chose some ofthe things we are eating, or where we are eating or putting the silverware on the table. Toddlers want to be involved and they want choices.I allow ketchup on a lot of weird things so that the child has a feeling that this was their choice(ketchup on eggs, broccoli, carrots ect)

Our schedule is more flexible but then there is only me and Alex eating for breakfast and lunch most days. Breakfast is shortly after he gets up, lunch around 11:00 and dinner around 4 most days with snacks sprinkled in there. I read that too much milk will make them feel full and that could cause a lose of appetite for meals. We do milk with meals and juice with snacks. It's probably my first time momminess that makes me obsess over what he eats but I'm adventurous in my food choices while my hubby is a set in his ways eater. I'd like Alex to be a good mix of the two.
