I just finished reading 'The Host'. And I Loved it so much!!! The Host is Stephenie Meyer's first adult novel and it offers a fantastic and gripping storyline. I highly recommend it. The book is absolutely wonderful. The characters have a lot of depth and are very intriguing. You feel you come to know and love them. The story is full of suspense and very exciting. It captures you and does not let go. Best of all, the ending is very satisfying and the story feels complete

I liked it as well, which sort of surprised me since I have no interest in Twilight. I thought it was deeply psychological, and from a fascinating viewpoint. I read it in three days, which is usually impossible for me.

I think a lot of what doomed Twilight in the eyes of any serious critic was its complete disregard for vampire lore. Without that, perhaps Meyer is a decent writer. But because I resent her as a person, I'm afraid I wouldn't get much enjoyment out of reading The Host because that would be at the back of my mind the entire time. Can anyone tell me what it's even about?

Ha! I am not even close to being a serious critic. I am, however, a serious SF reader, and I was curious about The Host, plus I needed a book for a swap game on another website, and picked it up.
I have been blasted in the past for calling it "original," and have heard people moaning about how Meyer ripped off "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" or the 1950s novel by Robert Heinlein, The Puppet Masters. I am (seriously) Heinlein's most avid disciple on Gaia, and the only similarity between the two is that the aliens can control a human host body. Having the alien be a sympathetic character, and having a large portion of the book take place in the mind is different, and fascinating.
As for Twilight, I just haven't had time or inclination to read it. The YA classification hurts it a lot. I am 27 years old, and like to read about adult characters. I might add that I hated Glass Houses by Rachel Caine, and while it may not be fair, Twilight is on the same shelf, so to speak, in my brain.
I don't buy the "traditional" vampire stuff, though. There have never been "rules" for vampires. Some people seem to think Bela Lugosi invented vampires.

I got this from the library today. Though I wasn't sure about it as Twilight is far from a favorite of mine, but I thought I'd give it a try nevertheless.

I can't bring myself to read it for a number of reasons. One of them is because, after Twilight, I have very little faith in her as an author and she made several comments about how 'amazing' that series was that I'd just feel guilty by adding to her already hugely over inflated ego.
As well, I haven't yet forgiven her for the feeling of her ripping off from my childhood.

I really liked The host but I'm kinda nervous cause there's a movie coming out soon. I really hope they don't butcher it like they did with twilight

I have absolutely no interest in reading that book. Disregard for vampire lore, Mary Sue characters, thinly veiled fantasies, and general lack of plot aside, the Twilight series is just badly written. The prose is terrible, the grammar and dialogue is awful, and in general, she has proven herself to be a crappy writer.
