Do you prefer anime or manga over the other, or does it even matter? Why?

It doesn't matter to me. I'm more a gamer than a fan of anime/manga, though I do enjoy them too. I like being able see/hear the characters in action in anime, yet I also like being able to read them in manga, and go over particular parts as much as I want. Also in manga, I like admiring the art style. whee

If I had to pick between the two, I'd go with anime. I like manga, but the fact of the matter is that I have no place to put all those books lol Although I could totally see myself, in an alternate universe maybe, buying and reading tons of them and then years later having the mother of all manga garage sales or something xd But nah...in this universe I'm happy with the anime and manga I currently have.
There are a few anime series that I wouldn't mind adding to my collection but...not worried about that right now.

Generally, I prefer manga. I can read at my own pace instead of having to sit through parts that bore me (powering up sequences, long ruminations on Go strategy or why Light just has to be Kira, etc.), which tend to get drawn out unnecessarily on screen. Also, I think black and white comics are cool.
Anime is still okay if it's consistently well animated. I think anime films are the best for this, but there are some series with a smaller number of episodes that manage to be equally good. I don't like lengthy serials in general, and that extends to western live action television-- I have trouble enjoying that stuff unless the episodes can stand on their own, and it's not much different for anime. Also, animation quality tends to be inversely proportional to the length of the show, and since the animation is to me the whole point of anime, nothing loses my attention faster than bad animation.
I'm neither a huge manga reader nor a big anime fan anymore, though.

Neither am I really. But I'm not against the possibility of something grabbing my attention at some point.

Oh yeah, of course not. For example, I finally read Monster all the way through a few months ago and I couldn't shut up about it. I just don't look for stuff on my own anymore; someone has to rec it to me, and then it has to meet my standards, which some people tell me are too high. Sue me for not wanting to waste time reading hundreds of chapters of nigh-on-plot-free misogyny, I guess.

There's nothing wrong with knowing what you like heart
The last manga series I started collecting was Vampire Knight. It was interesting I guess. Before that I was helping someone collect Pet Shop of Horrors. Though I am proud to say that the one series I've completely collected is the Korean manwha Ragnarok. That was a fun read.

I didn't realize there was a comic for Ragnarok. (Or is it separate from the game?)
I have a couple full series (Sorcerer Hunters and Magic Knight Rayearth), and almost have all of the Suikoden III manga. I haven't bought any new manga in yeaaars though.

I read up on Wiki that the artist for the Ragnarok series was supposed to go for 40+ books but instead she postponed it to work on the art for Ragnarok Online...so I guess that makes sense sweatdrop
