STATE FAIR SITE

The fair starts this coming Thursday!
So, who all is going this year? biggrin
I gotta go just once each year, because I love the sound and the sight and (some of) the smell of the state fair!
It's fun to see what idiotically insane new rides are out, what bizarre new deep-fried food has been added to the concessions repertoire, and what kind of yummy samples are available in the agricultural areas!

Better hurry and get your cheaper advance tickets if you're going to go!

Just thinking of all the deep-fried food makes me feel a bit sick xD;
I'm a sucker for the hotdogs and stuff, though...

Looks like I'm going this Saturday Sunday.
Now just to send home for my warm jacket >>; <<;

I went on Saturday. I was there from about 10:30 am to closing. gonk
I really feel wiped out today, and my shoulders, neck and head have hurt all day.
I think I have state fair hangover. sweatdrop

I didn't see near so much deep-fried weird food this year. Maybe the trend is dying out. Still all sorts of food to eat, though.

GOOD PLACES TO GET GOOD FOOD:
The Shriner's tent, up on the top end of the grounds, kind of across from Dorton Arena, serves up a really good plate lunch for about $8.50 with a meat, 2 veg. & bread. They have very good fish. I eat lunch there every year.
McBride's Concessions (which has been in business since 1932) makes good traditional fair fare. They have one location on the food midway selling turkey legs, and another doing hot dogs, BBQ, sausages, fries & such. I got some onion rings & they were really good. And they have a big seating area with tables.

COOL FREEBIES!
--Go to the "Got to be NC" tent up by the Scott Building. Several of the vendors in there have samples of their foods. One has a wheel for giving prizes out.
--Go to the "Green NC" tent and explore the exhibits. One lets you help choose a logo for a biofuels place. Place your votes for 1st & 2nd choices, and they will give you a FREE MUSIC CD with bluegrass & stuff on it. If you don't like bluegrass, it can be a gift for somebody!
--Go into the Agriculture Building. House Autry always gives samples of their awesome hushpuppies, and this year they also give a sample of their breading for baking pork or chicken. It's excellent!

That's just the stuff I remember off the top of my head! whee

Yep! n_n

I don't get off-campus much, though... my meal plan usually makes it cheaper to eat here.

I've been to NC state campus. God that campus is big. Which college do you guys want to go?
I would love to go to either Campbell University or UNC Chapell Hill

I've already done the university thing; I went to Ball State back in the 80's. I'm at Alamance Community College now...which, by the by, is a very excellent such college with really good teachers who give a darn whether you do well.
It's considered one of the top places in NC to learn Biotechnology skills, has a highly popular Nursing program with a waiting list to get in it, a fantastic Culinary program (LOVE their weekly meals!) and a tiny but excellent Graphic Design program.
Classes are small, but you get more attention for being small.
