Last week over at The Witch's Voice (Witchvox) the theme of the featured essays was Book of Shadows and I got to thinking ( a dangerous past time I admit).
In one the author admits that her "Book" is actually a filing cabinet. This was of comfort to me because my "book" is really three butterfly journals of spells, one wooden journal with Sabbatts, several notebooks, journal and loose sheets of paper with random poems, artwork, jokes, tales, songs, associations, and other assorted information on them. As well as 2 binders with the like within, needless to say I am thinking about a filing cabinet myself.
I was wondering about the others here, what do you keep in yours, what do you keep your info in?

I have multiple journals that I keep, though admittedly, I like to toss them and begin anew each time I turn a corner on my path. My book of shadows holds where I feel I'm at currently, what difficulties I'm facing, new experiences I encounter, different developments of techniques or changes in them, outlines for new experiments followed by results, potential synchronicities and their meaning, dreams and meanings, theories, etc... Since I don't really use spells, rather an incredibly simple structure, it would take only a paragraph for me to have my Book of Shadows (or books of shadow, as it were) hold mostly spellwork. It's more of a journal for me to keep myself organized. In fact, I'm just about to toss them and begin anew tonight as I've experienced a great deal of change again recently. I know, I should probably keep them, but I don't like to reflect too far back. It always seems to disappoint me.
It sounds like an amazing idea to keep a binder as my book as you've mentioned. I do have one binder for the use of organizing my logic on every topic imaginable, that way when I'm in doubt, I flip right to the topic and either expand or feel comforted.
I also really like that you keep artwork and jokes in yours. Does anyone read it besides you?

A few friends have seen my book. I have made copies of bits of it for them or lent out a particular essay or poem to them. Also I am kind of the keeper of the communal spell work that our little circle of solitaries have done so if they need to look back on something we did in a past situation or how we did it, I am the one that has the info, so my book kind of remains open. I also have a list of substitutions listed with some spells, since my circle sisters have some allergies and limitations do to dorm life.
