In some ways, yes. In others no.
He did act out Edward the way I pictured him, but I never had a very... nice picture of Edward in my mind (I've had boyfriends like him, it's not as romantic as the books made it out to be). He understood that as a Vampire he needed to be somewhat scary, and he did that exceptionally well.
But Edward in the book wasn't supposed to be creepy. Especially not to the extent he was in the movie. In the book he's supposed to be extremely devoted to Bella, but Rob didn't really act that out very well. I haven't seen the movie in awhile, but as memory serves, I don't think he ever told her he loved her. He said the whole, "you are my life now" thing, but I don't recall him just saying 'I love you'. (Though that's a writer flaw, not an actor flaw.)

He did ok. I think he could have done better. I mean Dudemeister12 is right, I did make it creepy which he wasn't supposed to do. But... he did ok. (Still hot though)
