June 5th, Year 1
The young man was watched as he made his way through the tree line, completely on the other side of town from the only road leaving the area. His long dark hair and cold stare complimented his entirely black attire. Aside from his pale skin and hair, with only the slightest hints of brown and red, his body held not a flicker of color. His loose black shirt hung comfortably over his tighter black cargo pants. The silver studs on his black belt matched with the silver clasps on his dark and heavy boots. He didn’t even look back as he climbed his way through the wild trees and away from the town.
“That Almus Rayne is without a doubt the most devious and analytical child to ever come from Twinleaf Town,” said the elder of two women sitting on a porch swing. “He never fits in with the other children in the town. He always has to be going off by himself doing who knows what out in those woods instead of playing ball with the other children like a good boy. But no, he always has to have his way and don’t even get me started on all the sneaky ‘accidents’ he has caused the other children who get in his way.”
“Excuse you!” Shrieked the other woman. “That is my son you are talking about! Let’s not forget that it is my son who is always first to act the ‘white knight’ whenever there is trouble in town. In fact, didn’t Almus just come to the defense of your grandson recently when he was being picked on?”
Grumbling the old woman continued, “Yes, well, you still cannot deny that he is an odd boy though. He is so quiet and hardly shows his emotions to other people. And then there is the fact that he is so hard on himself. I have never seen someone work so hard to be good at everything! It’s as if he thinks that one mistake would end his whole life. It‘s not natural for a boy his age to act so troubled. Odd, very odd indeed.”
“That doesn’t make him odd!” declared Almus’s mother. “I think it just gives him a silent and mysterious persona. That will be attractive to the girls once he has grown up,“ she said proudly. “And my boy isn’t troubled!”
“Well sure he is. You would be troubled too if you were a teenaged boy with no Pokémon of your own. I don’t blame Professor Rowan for not giving him one though. With how hard that boy is on himself and how shady of a character he has become there is no telling how Almus would treat a Pokémon if he had one. It’s his sarcastic attitude and strange characteristics that are the problem.“
“Oh you hush up now. That’s the end of it. … It was so hard on him, on his tenth birthday, when Professor Rowan didn’t give Almus a Pokémon. He was so heart broken when he was told he couldn‘t have any of the Pokémon there because he was ‘different’ from the other boys and girls wanting to become trainers. He went off exploring through the woods after that like he usually does but didn’t come home at all until the next morning. I was so worried." Suddenly her voice lowered as her mind drifted off into memory and she began speaking more to herself than her neighbor. "Since then it’s rare to see him in the town at all during his free time. I know he makes his way through the trees to the coast south of town but even after four years he still hasn’t let anyone know what he does down there. Right now he is on his way to Professor Rowan’s lab to try again to get his first Pokémon. I wish him luck. He is fourteen now, fourteen! I’ve already given that man a piece of my mind more than once on behalf of my boy but, if-if the Professor doesn‘t give Almus a Pokémon, if I have to see that heartbroken look in his eyes one more time, I- I just don‘t know what I‘ll do!“ Ms. Rayne broke off becoming too emotional to carry on another sentence.
Four years ago ~
The water trickled between the rocks as Almus walked along the coastline south of town looking to be far away from everyone as he could. He had been hurt and scorned so the last thing that he wanted to see was another person. Professor Rowan had refused to give him a Pokémon for being "different." Almus spoke to himself mocking the words of the Professor, “I’m sorry Almus but you aren’t like most of the other kids who come to see me. I don’t think you would be compatible with any of the Pokémon I have here to give away.“ Almus was already used to being called the word different by other children in the town and a few gossiping neighbors so as far as he was concerned Professor Rowan was just continuing the trend. Almus hated being called different.
He kicked a stone off the ground sending it soaring into the distance. Almus watched as it landed near an indentation in some large rocks. Having never actually been to this area before Almus went to investigate. There was a small cave hidden away behind some broken rocks. Having absolutely no intention of going back home that night he figured this would make as decent a place as any to stay the night. The opening to the cave was elevated from the ground level so he was sure water never flooded this passage and most Pokémon or people would simply travel by it without seeing it.
After crawling inside he made it halfway through the shallow passage before deciding to recline against a wall, slumping sullenly to the floor. The cave was only about thirty feet deep and he couldn’t help but noticing that this would make an excellent hideaway. However, he was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn’t notice the several swirling balls of light above his head who had the same opinion about this cave. To his surprise, Almus found himself surrounded by a swarm of Gastly twirling about him. They were appearing and disappearing making scary faces at him and causing the shadows to seem to dance menacingly around him. He screamed and made for the exit but the Gastly cast ghostly illusions of fire near the cave mouth to keep him from running away. Being only ten years old at the time he was scared out of his mind. He looked around for some other sort of exit but there was no other means of escape.
It was right when Almus was thinking he was done for that a single shinny light at the back of the cave caught his eye. There was another Gastly shimmering blue in the back of the cave. Nearly all of the Gastly were swirling in clouds of purple mist trying to scare him half to death but Almus couldn’t take his off of this peculiar blue Gastly that did nothing but hover low to the floor. Almus’ must have been obvious in what he was looking at because just then half the Gastly followed his gaze and floated to the back of the cave. Suddenly they began circling and taunting the blue Gastly much as they were doing the Almus as well.
Almus couldn‘t see why though. Nothing seemed wrong with that Gastly other than it was a different color. Then Almus realized it was because it was a different color that it was getting picked on. Instantly he felt a connection between them in his mind. Almus had been denied a Pokémon because he socially didn‘t fit in with the town. That Gastly was being picked on for glowing blue instead of misting purple. Almus hated it when someone was mistreated for being different and it just went against his nature to not do something about it.
"STOP PICKING ON HIM FOR BEING DIFFERENT!" Almus screamed. The Gastly still circling him froze for a moment confused. The young boy seemed to clearly not be afraid of them anymore. He grit his teeth and ran through the illusions of fake fire and shadow monsters that the ghost Pokémon put in his path. All concern for his own safety left him and he became concerned only about the well being of the blue Gastly. He swatted the surprised Gastly away and wrapped his arms around the cowering Pokémon to ask, "Are you ok?" "G-Gastly?" the shinny Pokémon replied in confusion.
"Don't ever let any one pick on you for being different!" Almus told Gastly sternly. "Like you, I am different where I live and I have learned something. If you can't be the same then be better." Just then the other Gastly charged with a series of lick attacks aimed for the two sitting on the floor. Almus winked at the shinny Gastly and said, "Hypnosis!" Gastly grinned and turned to catch all the others off guard. It let out a powerful glance of Hypnosis effectively striking every other Gastly in the cave. One by one purple swirls of mist seemed to fade out and drop to the floor. That evening, the two slept peacefully in the cave all night long.
~~~
For the next four years, Almus secretly spent his free time visiting his new friend in that cave. Both he and his shinny friend were no longer bothered, but now respected, by the other Gastly. They would just float out of the way whenever Almus would come back to visit, preferring to have nothing to really do with him. The shinny Gastly, however, would eagerly await Almus’ return each day. They were each other’s only friend and both felt strength instead of loneliness when they were together. However, Almus would have never expected what was to happen on that fateful day when for the fourth year in a row he walked with an empty pokéball in hand towards Professor Rowan's lab to receive his first Pokémon.
As his luck would have it, he was stopped before he even reached the front doors. Cain stood there in front of the door blocking Almus‘ path. He had been Almus‘ rival since they were very young. With his flowing golden hair and dressed in his fancy blue suit Cain had been an annoyance to every child in their generation but he always had it in for Almus. Cain always took every opportunity to show how much better he was than Almus and always was the ringleader of others picking on Almus for going against the flow of things. “Different,“ was Cain‘s favorite word when talking about Almus. "I'm not going to let you get a Pokémon from Professor Rowan, Almus," said Cain.
"And why not?" replied Almus.
Cain’s eyes narrowed viciously as he tried to sound as cold as possible. "Because you already have a Pokémon don't you?!"
"What? No I don't!" Almus choked completely confused.
"Don't lie. Where do you always sneak off to then?" Even though the other Ghastly were never as interested in him as his shinny friend they did help over the years to keep his meeting with them secret, obscuring their cave from view to all except him after their first chance encounter. "You have another Pokémon in secret and you are trying to pull a fast one on the Professor to get another one. The Professor is only supposed to give a Pokémon to someone who doesn't have one." complained Cain.
"I don't have my own Pokémon yet. This pokéball is empty and every kid in Twinleaf is supposed to receive a Pokémon from the Professor. It is time I got mine! Now move!" Almus yelled.
With a struggle, Cain blocked Almus from getting through the doors and said, "No! You had better hope that you have a Pokémon in that ball of yours because I do have a Pokémon and it is a dragon and either way I am about to attack you with it! Pokemon, Go!"
Almus stepped back in fear of being attacked but watched as Cain stood paralyzed in mid throw, not releasing his own pokéball from his hand. A large tongue appeared out of thin air from behind Cain's head and then disappeared. Then a pair of floating eyes become visible in front of Cain's face. Without warning, the elegantly dressed Cain began falling to the ground in a deep sleep.
"Gastly!" Almus cried happily. "You saved me. Thank you!” The blue shinny Pokémon showed itself smiling happily and Almus reached our to pat Gastly on the head, running his fingers affectionately through Gastly’s mist. “You have always been my best friend. I wish you belonged to Professor Rowan so that I could get you to be my first Pokémon." "Gastly!" The Pokémon grinned. With that, Gastly floated down to the pokéball in Almus's hand and disappeared into it with a red flash.
Not knowing it was possible for a Pokémon to willingly catch itself for you, Almus stood there dumbfounded in the doorway to the lab until he heard a voice calling his name. Almus put the pokéball into his pocket and walked inside. There he saw Professor Rowan waiting for him. "Hello Almus. I knew you would be by today. You are fourteen now, am I right?”
“Well it has been four years now that you have denied me a Pokémon so I guess that would add up. I didn‘t want to be late for breaking with tradition so let‘s get this over with.” Almus complained.
Professor Rowan‘s jaw almost dropped at Almus‘ response. At first it looked like he might be angry but then his expression softened and he spoke. “Now I would tell you to watch that sarcasm with me young man but I suppose that I had that coming. It is my fault that you reached your fourteenth birthday without receiving a Pokémon from my lab yet." He looked at Almus apologetically but the boy said nothing. "Almus, I want you to know that I think you will be a fine trainer. I didn't hold my Pokémon from you because I thought you didn't deserve one, so don‘t be mad. I held them from you because I didn't have any that I thought matched your potential. I’m not saying I think you would make a stronger or weaker trainer than anyone else but I have known you since you were little and I just couldn’t give you any of the Pokémon that I had when they were so far off from your nature." He took a breath trying to find the right words to say. "You are always struggling so hard to be stronger so I wanted to hold out until I found a Pokémon for you that is very difficult to train. I thought that maybe that way when you finally master it, you can finally be satisfied in yourself and your abilities.”
“Tch!” scoffed Almus, hurt from being read so easily.
“And guess what Almus? I finally found what I think is the perfect Pokémon for you. It was probably too long ago for you to remember, but it was your favorite Pokémon to look at when you would glance at my bug books when you were much younger. Do you have an empty pokéball with you?"
Almus had hardly heard a word Professor Rowan was saying. He was expecting so soundly to be turned away again that now that he was finally being given one he didn’t know how to react. He was dumbfounded from his day so far by getting attacked by Cain, one way or another catching Gastly, and now being given a mystery Pokémon. But, some how he managed to shake his head, honestly telling the Professor that he didn't have an empty pokéball with him. The Professor drew up a pokéball from his Pokémon storage device and handed it to Almus. "She is yours now. I have no doubt that she will take care of you if you treat her well and train her as hard as you train yourself. Go on. Open it.""SCYYY!" Almus had pressed the tab releasing the Pokémon from it's ball to reveal a beautiful Scyther standing tall and proud in front of him. She was dazzling to behold. Her muscles were built and toned, her movements were graceful & screamed of agility, and her eyes looked as if she had a spark of brilliance behind them.
After Almus was excused from Professor Rowan’s lab, he looked at the two pokéballs in his hands. One held Gastly, his closest friend for years who had protected him from danger and the other held his new Scyther, a Pokémon that he had wanted since he was just a small boy. All he could do now was run off to tell his mom the news and start his life as a Pokémon trainer. However, there was still a lot to be done before he left Twinleaf to set out on his journey. "Mom! Mom!" Almus shouted as he was running towards his house.
"Oh, please not again. Please no more bad news," his mother whispered to herself.
"I'll just excuse myself then and leave your family to it's family business," the old woman said grimly, having the same thought as Ms. Rayne.
"Thank you for sitting with me and being so neighborly. I'll talk to you tomorrow," replied Almus' mother before she beckoned her running son to follow her and then walked inside their house.
Bursting through the open doorway, Almus looked around for his mother. He only stopped for a moment to look up at a long coat that hung near the doorway, as he always did when he entered the house. Ms. Rayne had made her way to the kitchen and was washing an already cleaned dish very nervously. Almus found his mother and screamed, "Mom, I got my first Pokémon!"
The dish became instantly forgotten in her mind as it fell from her hands and shattered on the floor. Ms. Rayne spun around to look at her son, tears of joy filling her eyes as she bent down and opened her arms to her boy. "Is it really true?" Almus ran into her embrace and she twirled him around a couple times as they laughed happily together.
The dish laid broken on the floor for the rest of the day and night as Almus and his mother spent all their time together in the back yard catching up on everything that happened. Almus told his mom about the past few years of befriending a hoard of Gastly, being attacked by Cain, how his best friend became his first Pokémon and how his childhood favorite Pokémon was given to him by the professor.
After cooking an amazing home barbeque, Ms. Rayne spent every waking moment helping Almus as he got to know and train his Scyther all that day and Gastly well into the night. She had been a traveling Pokémon trainer when she was younger and she wanted to make sure he boy started out right so she helped Almus with his training to pass on as many jewels of wisdom as she could.
She couldn’t have been happier as she helped her son teach his Scyther to trust him and listen when he gave it a command. She even made Scyther sit down and listen to a lecture about making sure to keep her son safe and protect him at all times. Almus was of course whining the whole time that she was embarrassing him. She didn’t connect as close with Gastly as she was a bit disturbed by her son owning one. Ghost Pokémon were not commonly favored and almost socially rejected but the more she thought about it the more she had to scold herself for laughing at the irony of it. It seems only fitting that her different, no her special boy should get something like Gastly as his first Pokémon.
“Gastly, return!” Almus cried out returning Gastly to his poke ball before turning back to smile at his mom. It was getting late and Almus was tired from training all day. He couldn’t wait to get to sleep because the sooner that happened the sooner he would wake up. “Tomorrow,” he thought, “tomorrow I start my Pokémon journey!”
May 5th, Year 1Cal flopped on his bed tired from what he had done. He had just finished unpacking all his stuff into his new room. It was a small room, much like how a dorm would look like. The landlord was kind enough to explain how things worked in his room and to ask whenever he needed help. The reason why he offered help was because Cal wasn't native to Sinnoh. The reason why he was there was because in a few months time, Cal would be attending School in Jubilife Trainer Academy. He left his family and pokemon to attend this school. -------------------- 3 Months Ago
A Charizard swooped over Viridian City, Circling over a certain buidling. Once he received his command, the Charizard dove down towards the lawn of the house. Before hitting the lawn, he spread his wings open, slowing down and landing on the ground with a slight *thud*. The trainer, a teenage boy, got off and gave a pat on the Charizard's shoulder signifying a job well done. Charizard bent his neck and lowered his head towards the trainer. The trainer gave a laugh and scratched the head of the Charizard. The Charizard gave a content smile and enjoyed the scratch.
All of a sudden, a woman in her early forties came out onto the lawn and approached the two. She wore a house dress and an apron which indicated she was doing housework. She was carrying a piece of paper in one hand and looked very excited.
"Honey!" The trainer turned his head towards his mother. "This just came in! Your letter!" "Which one mom?" The boy replied.
"Your acceptance letter from Jubilife!" his mom answered handing him the paper in her hand.
Wide-eyed, the boy grabbed the letter and began reading it.
Dear Cal L. Spiral
The Jubilife Trainer Academy is pleased to inform you that your application has been accepted. Should you choose to atte.....
Cal stopped reading after the first sentence. He had been accepted and he was going to Sinnoh!
2 Months Ago
Cal was checking his suitcase if he had everything he needed. There was a knock on his door and he turned his head to see who was there. His mom stood in his doorway holding a small box in her arms. He got up to get the box but his mom told him to stay put. She placed the box beside his bed on his desk before sitting on his bed. She mentioned him to come closer. Cal got up and sat on his bed beside his mom. Before he could ask what she wanted, she started speaking to him.
"Cal, I hope you know how proud your dad and I in getting accepted. We never dreamed that you would be able to do something like this. We mostly expected for you to go on traveling becoming a pokemon trainer. In a sense you still are but it's different. After you traveled and competed for a year you decided to come back and even go to school! Most kids your age would just travel to skip school but you decided it yourself. I was happy then because it meant i would be able to see my little boy everyday again."
"Ma... I'm not that little anymore." Cal pointed out to his growth chart that his mom started when he was till young. True enough, Cal's last height check was 5'7".
"You'll still be my little boy even if you are taller than me already." She gave a smile at Cal. "But that doesn't stop me from worrying about you again. You'll be leaving again and this time longer until you finish."
"Ma. I'm still going home during the holidays."
"Yes but you'll be in a different area this time. Unlike before if anything happened your father and I could still go to you but this time, my boy will be truly on his own."
Her face gave a gloomy look and Cal knew there was only one way to cheer his mom up. He reached around her shoulders and gave her a hug. She reached for one of his arms and gave it a squeeze as if hugging back.
"I'll be fine mom."
Cal's mom smiled and gave a nod. She knew that but she would still always worry about him.
"Before you leave there's something your dad and I gave you. Think of it as something to keep you company in Sinnoh." She said while grabbing the box she placed on his bed side and placed in on Cal's lap. "Be careful. It's still fragile."
Cal opened the box and was surprised to see a poke-egg inside. It was in a small incubation chamber and was yellow with a spiky black bottom.
"I'm sure you can tell what pokemon is inside already. This way you can have someone to have good time with in Sinnoh."
Cal would hug his mom a second time if it just wasn't for the poke-egg. He settled for smiling and saying: "Thanks mom."
----------------------
There was someone else Cal had to say good-bye to. Cal stepped out into the lawn carrying the egg; Eggs hatched faster when around people and pokemon. His Charizard was currently basking in the sun lying peacefully. The Charizard poked its head up upon hearing someone approach. Cal showed him the poke-egg he was carrying. Charizard moved its head closer to sniff it before looking at Cal quizzically.
"Hey there buddy. It's poke-egg. I'll be taking it with me to Sinnoh."
Charizard went back to basking in the sun while Cal sat down and leaned back on Charizard. It was something they used to do when Cal was still traveling and would still do it from time-to-time to relax.
"Well Nova, I'll be going soon. Sorry I can't take you with me this time. I'll be staying at a place where there won't be a lawn for you to stay in. Plus i heard that Sinnoh is colder that Kanto which is why there are few fire-type pokemon there. It'll be a problem when i start school as well."
Cal looked at Nova to see how he would react. He gave a small laugh when he saw that Charizard was still relaxing peacefully. It was as if Nova knew beforehand what he wanted to say.
"When I come back, you want to see your new teammate?" Cal said referring to the egg.
Nova bent his neck towards Cal and nuzzled his head on his. Cal just laughed at his Charizard's antics.
------------ May 5th, Year 1 Still on his bed, Cal continued staring at the egg in front of him. It was starting to glow. Cal, sat up right away was excited as it meant the egg was hatching. He quickly opened the cylinder and carefully brought the Poke-egg out. Remembering his lectures on Pokemon Nursing, Cal waited for it to hatch. It glowed bright white and started changing shape. Once the the light had died down, a Pichu stood where the egg once was. "Pi" The Pichu opened it's eyes and saw Cal. Cal extended his finger towards Pichu. He felt like he was playing with a baby. "Hey there little guy. My name is Cal and welcome to the world."The Pichu gave his finger a sniff before licking it. Cal smiled as the Pichu went closer to him trying to get to a warmer source. It curled on top of his lap sleeping peacefully. "You'll need a name. Hmmm.... I'll call you Pulse."Pulse yawned as if to answer him. "Chuuuu..." Jubilife City
Marceline Azarni 4 June, Year 1---------- "Marceline Azarni! You get up out of that bed right now!" Shouted a middle aged woman with short hair from the doorway to Marceline's bedroom.
"UUUUhhhhhnnnnnggg!" Groaned Marceline from her bed as she blindly sent a pillow flying through the air towards her mother. The still sleepy child lay face down in the bed with only her head exposed from under the sheets.
"Come on now kitten," her mother continued after catching the pillow as she had done so many times before. "You need to get up so that you can get started on your adventure. I want you to see the world and meet new friends and learn from new sources of information."
A single eye protruded from the sea of soft and comfy bedding. "But what about my brothers? Who is going to help you-"
"Oh pish posh! That's enough of that." Her mother interjected. "Marceline, when you were ten, your father and I decided you were responsible enough to take care of a pokemon. Then, last year when you turned eleven, we felt that you were ready to go off on your own adventure after seeing how well you have cared for your pokemon. We thought it was very sweet of you to offer to stay behind and help us raise your younger brothers but you are a twelve year old girl now. It is time you spread your wings."
"Uggh mom! Get out of here so I can go back to sleep or you are going to see me spread my claws!" Marceline said as a another pillow was hurled at her mother.
Her mother sighed. "Maybe your pokemon here can talk some more sense into you."
"My pokemon?" Asked Marceline.
"Char!" Cried an excited voice as it came bounding into the room.
"Oh, it's you! Hi Charmander, how are you doing this morning boy?" Marceline said as she jumped up from her bed spunky and wide awake.
"Oh now you get up out of bed because your pokemon is here but your mother's word means nothing to you does it?" Said Marceline's mom teasingly.
"Mom! Stop calling Charmander a pokemon. He really is more of a little person isn't he? Yes you are! You are such a cute little giant lizard."
"Why couldn't I have gotten a normal daughter that is afraid of bugs and lizards?"
"Teehee!" Marceline laughed as she got dressed and packed her backpack.
Once Marceline was ready, she came rushing into the room where her mom was making breakfast for the three of them. Mrs. Azarni looked at the doorway of the kitchen where her daughter stood. Marceline was wearing her ash blonde hair up in pigtails, a fine tan tunic, brown shorts with gold embroidery and her favorite brown comfy boots. Her daughter had grown up to be a fair skinned and freckle faced girl with big pretty eyes that never settled on whether they wanted to be green or blue.
“Um mom, did dad go to work already?” Marceline asked.
”Yes that’s right kitten, and your brothers are already off to their studies today, too. I know you probably wanted to say good bye to everyone before you left but you slept in so late and-”
”Alright mom! I get it.” Marceline snapped embarrassed.
”Here is your lunch, I will put it in your bag for you. … Oh ok good, it looks like you have everything else you need packed in here already. Oh and here is your pokenav. I had your dad pick it up for you yesterday but sit down and eat your breakfast before I give it to you. I don’t want your food to get cold. You too, Charmander.”
As Marceline ate she became more and more excited. She was reluctant to leave the loving care of her family but she looked forward to the thought that in just another hour or two she would be a free traveler training her pokemon and seeing the world. ----------Sandgem Town
June 6th, Year 1Buildings started becoming visible as Cal approached Sandgem Town. Passing through Route 202 was uneventful as he decided to pass through the beaten path avoiding and wild pokemon encounters. Pulse was content to stay with the journey as she had spent it napping on Cal's head. Upon reaching the town, the smell of the ocean filled Cal's nostrils. If he remembered correctly, there was supposed to be a beach near Sandgem. Before making any plans to visit the beach, Cal needed to go to Professor Rowan's lab to register for a pokedex. By passing the Pokecenter, call reached front door of the lab and knocked. A few seconds later, a male assistant answered the door. "Yes?" the assistant asked. "My name is Cal L. Spiral. Um... I'm here to register for my pokedex." Cal answered back. The assistant gave a inspecting look on Cal before moving out of the doorway to let him in. Cal approached Professor Rowan who wasn't had to recognize. He had attend some of the lectures the professor had given even if he didn't understand them before. The Professor looked intimidating but the way he spoke was inviting and made you want to listen and ponder what he said. Once Cal was in front of the Professor, he introduced himself again. "Hello Profosser! I'm Cal Spiral. I called regarding the pokedex.""Ahh yes I remember. Aren't you a bit old to start your journey?"
"I started when I was ten like most, Professor. I even have badges to prove it." Cal answered while pulling out his badge case from his bag. He opened them and showed the Eight Kanto badges in them. "I see. Then why are you registering for a Pokedex? Your old one should do fine."Cal fidgeted a bit before replying. "I stopped traveling and went back to school after my first conference. It's been 6 years since i used it last so it's an old version."
"Oh? Then was made you decided to travel again?"
"Actually I'm going to attend school in the Trainer Academy in Jubilife. I decided to travel to know the rest of Sinnoh before school starts."Prof. Rowan nodded his head not asking anymore questions. He turned and proceeded his desk containing a pokedex and a set of Pokeballs. "So are you a boy or a girl?"
"Excuse me Professor?"
"Oh sorry." The Professor said sheepishly. "Force of habit."Cal wondered why Professor Rowan needed to ask that question. "Here is the newest Pokedex. It contains all the information of Pokemon up to date." The Professor said handing Cal a red device. Cal opened it and entered his personal data. Once finished, Cal placed it in his pocket for safe keeping and easy access. "So what pokemon did you bring from Kanto?"
"All I have is this Pichu and she's only a month old. I left all my pokemon back in Kanto. They prefer it there.""Hmm... Since your starting fresh as it seems, It couldn't hurt to provide you a starter pokemon."
"Really Proffesor?" Cal was definitely interested in that. "Of course. You seem like a capable young man. It wouldn't hurt the pokemon as well." Professor Rowan beckoned Cal to approach the table. On it where the three pokeballs Cal spotted beforehand. Since he was closer now, Cal noticed beside each pokeball, there was information about the pokemon inside of them. Upon careful deliberation inside his head, Cal picked on of the pokeballs and said. "I'll pick this Professor."Cal opened the pokeball realeasing the pokemon inside. White light shot from the ball and formed into a small blue penguin. "Piplup!"Pulse, sensing a new pokemon, jumped from Cal's head to his shoulder. Knowing what Pulse wanted to do, Cal grabbed her and lowered her down in front of Piplup. "Pi-pichu!" Pulse said while extending a paw as a sign of greeting. "Pi-pip!" Piplup replied, taking Pulse's paw and shaking it. Cal was glad that the two got along. "Well everything seems to be okay Cal. Your journey begins again for you."
"Thank you Professor. I'll be off." Cal took the pokeball of Piplup and returned him to his pokeball. He picked up Pulse and placed her back on his head. Waving good-bye to Professor Rowan, Cal headed for his new journey. Sandgem Town
June 6th, Year 1
The next day Almus’ adventure began.
"Bye mom, I'm going now," Almus cried as he hurried out the door.
Faster then even his Scyther could move, a hand shot out from the house grabbing Almus by his collar and pulled him back inside. "Oh no you don't!" said his mother. "Not until I am sure that you are ready. Did you remember to take your money with you? Did you put everything I laid out on your bed in your backpack?” She eyed him up and down skeptically. “Did you even remember to take your Pokémon with you?"
"Yes mom, I have my money. I have everything packed. My Pokémon are right he-..." Almus reached down at his belt feeling no pokeballs on it. His mother gave him a knowing look that made him blush sheepishly.
"Don‘t look at me like that Almus. That‘s what moms are for." She laughed. ”Besides, I have a present for you that I am sure you will like.” She said handing him a letter with his pokeballs. "I know you Almus, which means I know that right now you are thinking of trying to become the strongest starting trainer in the world. That leads me to one conclusion. You are planning to go straight to Jubilife to buy your Pokémon a powerful TM."
"No I'm not!" Said Almus as he scuffed his foot back and forth across the floor knowing his mom was pretty much right. The truth of the matter was that Almus had been wondering if he could get a powerful TM from the PokeMart in Sandgem Town so that way he could get stronger a whole town sooner.
"Haha Almus you are so predictable some times. Anyways, I am a long time friend of the owner of the PokeMart there so give him this letter and he will give you any one TM you want for free. I will take care of the payment later on. Right now I want to make sure that you don't go wasting all of your money right away." She said as she ran her fingers through her boy’s hair.
"Thank you mom. Don't worry. I'll use this note and make sure to ration the money I have for food and such.” Almus appeared to have started turning away but he suddenly stopped and glanced quickly back up to his mother.
“Oh and thank you for the container of Pokémon food you bought. If I miss a meal once in awhile that's fine but I want to make sure I have something to keep my Pokémon healthy and fit with in between meals."
Ms. Rayne was surprised by her son‘s comment. "Your Pokémon will only be as good off as how healthy their trainer is. No missing meals young man!"
"Yes mom." He said to his mother with a smile.
Ms. Rayne put a hand to her forehead as if feeling strained. "You're so much like your father Almus. Your so bighearted always putting others before yourself. Just promise me that you will take care of yourself to." Suddenly she jumped to attention. "Oh, right! Almus hang on there is something I want to give you before you go. I think that it's only right that you take it with you." She turned and stepped out of the kitchen, walking towards the front door.
Almus followed her and gasped as he watched her begin pulling a dark trench coat off of a coat rack by the door. "Mom! What are you doing?! That's dad's!
Ms. Rayne froze and blushed for a moment, with a hint of sadness flashing in her eyes, before continuing to lower the coat. "Oh I know dear. I know this used to belong to your father. This is the same coat he was wearing when he started his journey. It is the same coat he was wearing the day I met him." She snapped herself back into reality realizing she had begun day dreaming about the past.
'Then why are you taking it down? We've never moved Dad's jacket!" Almus stammered, becoming emotional which was a rare sight for him to be.
"Because now I am giving it to you. It isn't doing anyone any good just sitting here collecting dust. It should be worn out in the world again and no one else has the right to wear that coat more than you do Almus. Here, try it on. You should be plenty old enough for it to fit." With a heavy heavy heart she passed her last memento of her late husband to Almus and he slipped himself into it.
It was a thick and heavy coat that hung down to just above Almus' ankles. It wasn't leather but yet still seemed made out of some sort of sturdy hide that Almus could not determine the origin of. It had deep pockets and lots of little pockets for things on the inside. It was obviously very weathered from years of use but it was still sturdy and presentable. It was solid black which Almus loved and he thought it made him look much older as he glanced over his new appearance.
"Oh my gosh..." Almus looked up to his mother confused when she spoke. "Oh I'm sorry sweety. It's just that you look so much like your father did." Almus blushed profusely.
"Mom! Can I go now?" He whined.
She took a long breath and kissed Almus on his forehead. "I guess. I love you Almus."
"I love you too mom."
"Ok, go have fun trying to fit the world in a pokeball."
After a laugh, Almus was out the door with his mother spouting further words of wisdom, love and praises after him. He was now walking away from his hometown and down the road to his greatest adventure.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "Scyyy-ther!"
A twig crunched in the tall grass under Almus' boot as he recalled Scyther to her pokeball. Yet another fainted Bidoof lay on the ground behind him as he made his way into the trees. Almus had started off traveling on the road but he soon remembered that he never really was one for roads in the first place.
Almus had an advantage over the other starting trainers from Twinleaf or those visiting route 201. He knew the land like only the Pokémon do. He could venture much farther from the road without getting lost which meant he had known for years where to find the best Pokémon nests and hiding places. However, despite this Almus found himself at a loss. He was searching for a particular Pokémon with little luck. All of the nests and hideaways that he once discovered now laid empty.
Suddenly, the sound of wings fluttering in the distance with a gentle rush of a bush made Almus perked his head in that direction and creep silently closer. "Gastly, lick attack." Almus whispered as he crawled on his hands and knees around the shrubbery. The sun was in his eyes but he could see the silhouette of his target. "GGAAAALLLLLLsss!" Was the only sound that could be heard as Gastly slid a wet lick up the surprised Pokémon’s back.
"Is that it?" He thought to himself. "Is that the Pokémon I've been searching for?" His mind continued. He lay as still as a stone waiting for the inevitable attack from his invisible friend. "It looks like it could be it. It has to be the Pokémon I am searching for. They are in this region and I have been at this for hours." Almus nearly jumped out of his skin as the attack landed. A massive tongue appeared out of thin air, there was a startled screech and a flutter of feathers. A twitching bird, suffering of paralysis, now lay grunting upon the ground. Almus darted forward, pokeball in hand, "I got you now!" He screamed and curled his arm back.
Almus stopped in mid throw. He stood there staring at the bird for a moment and sighed putting the pokeball back into his pocket. He pulled out his Pokédex and took his time taking very detailed information about the Pokémon. "Tai-low!" the Pokémon muttered weakly through it's paralysis. After completing his entry for Taillow, almost signaled for Gastly to go ahead and knock the poor creature out.
"Where is that Pokémon?!" Almus whined to himself at still not finding it.
"Gas-gas," his Pokémon nudged Almus.
"Hmmm? Almus mumbled turning to look at him and saw the expression in his big ghostly eyes. “Oh I'm sorry. You're right Gastly. Scyther is probably tired too. I have been working you two so hard all day today and it is only our first day out.” Almus pat Gastly’s head and started trotting back towards the road. “Come on, let's go relax by the lake. The water will refresh us and I have been looking forward to letting Scyther see it."
Almus walked west along the route with his Gastly floating faithfully over his shoulder. "Ah here we are again my friend. Lake Verity. Scyther, come on out here. There is something I want to show you."
"Gas-ty-ty Gastly Gastly Gas Gas!" Gastly spouted excitedly.
Almus released Scyther from her pokeball and then turned to his old friend. "Oh alright Gastly, go on. I know you want to go scare the fish."
"GASTLY!" Screamed his Pokémon happily and disappeared into the ground. Within seconds large swirls could be seen breaking the water's surface.
Almus laughed to himself with a grin, "He is going to become as cruel as I am if he doesn't watch that habit of his."
"Scyyy-!" Scyther moaned breathlessly. She had turned to look out over the beauty of the lake. She was captivated by it. Almus and Scyther both went down to the waters edge to freshen up in the cool bliss. As the hour passed, Almus lay relaxed on the shore watching with amusement as his Scyther excitedly chased the water swirls of his insatiable Gastly in the lake. All three of them were feeling healed up and ready for a little more adventure in the few hours left before nightfall.
Marceline Azarni 4 June, Year 1---------- Marceline stood in front of her house, frozen. She just realized that, despite her excitement and constant dreams about going out on her own adventure, she never really thought about what she was going to do once it happened. It just seemed like such a big change. A completely new way of life that she was just kicked into without any preparation.
She tilted her head to the left. That road led down to Twinleaf Town. While it was a very beautiful town with a ton of foliage, there wasn’t really anything to do. It was just a town that wouldn’t take her anywhere on her journey. Of course, it would have quite a few interesting pokemon for her to catch and play with.
She looked down a path right behind her house. This one led down to the beach. The beach was sure to be filled to the brim with plenty of water pokemon that she would love to catch. ’Charmander,’ she reminded herself. There was no way her little fiery lizard would be able to handle it down along the coast. She would have to remember to check that out later once she’s caught a few more pokemon.
She turned her head to look at a path across the street next to her friend Chelsea’s house. That road would take her right to Jubilife City. The very first real city she would go to on her adventure. No doubt there would be a whole bunch of trainers itching for a challenge there. But, despite her having her Charmander for two years, her baby still needed a bit more training before he could really handle himself. Besides, she needed more pokemon.
Moving her head from path to path, Marceline finally sighed in resign. ”Route 201, here I come,” she said as she kicked the gravel beneath her feet. Hitching herself up, putting on her best happy face and flipping her pigtail over her shoulder, she headed off towards Twinleaf Town.
---
Just like Marceline remembered, Route 201 was very beautiful and full of wild-life as well as plant-life. She could hear the constant rustling of pokemon in the bushes nearby but she didn’t even consider going inside to look.
While Marceline never considered herself a priss, she still had her standards. While trekking through grass and rock and climbing up trees was a yes, crawling in bushes was a definite no. She loved bugs and snakes and thought they were amazingly beautiful but the thought of a Spinarak crawling all over her still would give her the willies.
”Weeeed-le, weeed-le!”
Marceline’s ears perked up and she quickly spun her head around to locate the yellow body of the weedle. She had seen plenty of them crawl into her town before so she was able to recognize them without a problem. It didn’t take long for her to see it through a small bushel of grass.
”Alright, Charmander! Are you ready for our first real battle? Go show that Weedle what you’re made of!” Marceline pulled out the ball holding Charmander and released him.
”Chaaaaaa!” Charmander cried out of joy for being released. He wiggled his entire body in excitement, finally able to have a good fight with a foe that wasn’t a rattata that got loose in the house.
”Scratch it, Charmander!”
Charmander smiled and bounced over to the Weedle looking very awkward and clumsy out of his excitement. Extending his claws, he brought his hand down and scratched against the left side of Weedle’s body.
”Weeeeeee!!! The Weedle spun around in shock, not expecting an attack from a pokemon. With fear in it’s little bug-eyes, it quickly let out a needle from it’s mouth that hit Charmander square on the cheek before quickly scurrying away.
“Chaaaa---!” Charmander let out a painful cry and winced hard.
Marceline quickly came over to Charmander’s side, worry written all over her face. ”Charmander! Are you alright, boy?” She reached out to touch Charmander but, instead of letting her hold him, Charmander went bolting after the Weedle. ”Charmander!!!”
”Chaar! Chaar! Chaar!” Charmander screamed, releasing one ember after another at the retreating Weedle. Slowly Charmander’s steps got shorter and shorter, his flame steadily becoming less potent, until he finally collapsed on the ground in pain. ”Chaaaaaaa,” he whined, his breathing hard but shallow.
”Charmander!” Marceline finally arrived by Charmander’s side and picked him up into her arms. ”Oh boy, are you alright? What’s wrong?” Tears formed in her eyes as she looked down at her friend in pain. ”Charmander?”
Biting her lip, Marceline looked back towards the path that led to her town. She knew that she had to go home and take care of him despite how much she would rather stay out and explore more. It was still only four in the evening and there was plenty of sunlight left.
”Come on Charmander. I’ll get you feeling better. I promise.” Marceline stood up and ran as fast as she could towards her house.
---
”Mom! Mom! Mom!” Marceline called for her mom adamantly until she finally heard the sound of her mother coming downstairs.
”Why are you home so early, dear? I thought you were--” Mrs. Azarni was cut off when she saw the pained Charmander in her daughter’s arms. ”Oh my goodness! What happened to him?”
”He was fighting a Weedle and then it spat something at him and then he was in pain but he kept fighting it anyway and then he fell over and now he looks really sad and I don’t know what to do!” Marceline went over to her mom, hoping that she would know what was wrong with her Charmander.
”A Weedle you say? Aren’t those poisonous?”
”Poisonous? You mean, Eddie wasn’t kidding when he said that?” Marceline had heard her neighbor Eddie say that she needed to be careful or Weedle would come into her room at night and poison her but she didn’t think he was serious.
”Yes, there are poisonous pokemon. Don’t you ever pay attention in class?”
Marceline blushed and remained silent.
”Well, I’m going to go run to the bathroom and see if we have any antidotes. In the meantime, why don’t you go and fetch a damp cloth for your Charmander. You should make sure you clean those scrapes he got from falling." Mrs. Azarni left the room briskly and let Marceline to tend to her poor pokemon.
---
”There dear,” Mrs. Azarni put a couple of bottles of potions and antidotes into Marceline’s bag. ”Now you remember to be careful now, okay? Don’t let your Charmander get poisoned again. It isn’t good to be subjected to a lot of status effects.”
Mrs. Azarni kissed Marceline’s head, followed by Charmander.
”Thank you, mom.” Marceline returned her Charmander to his pokeball and then picked up her bag. Just before she left the house, her mother stopped her again.
”Dear? You may want these. I believe you forgot them when you left this morning.” Her mother held out a bag with a few extra pokeballs in it.
”Oh. Marceline blushed and took the bag. ”Thanks, mom,” she mumbled.
---
Marceline looked up at the sky. The sun was just starting to set and it was as beautiful as it had ever been. But this time, she was looking at it as her own independent adventurer. She was free to see the world and do things that she had never done before. She would sleep whenever she wanted, wake up whenever she wanted, go wherever she wanted. She just knew that things would be great.
She sighed contently and looked down at her little camp fire that she made with some help from her friend. Her Charmander was already asleep, curled up in a little sleeping bag she made just for him.
’I suppose I should get myself ready for bed,’ she thought. Marceline fumbled around in her bag and pulled out her sleeping sack and her camping pillow. After setting up herself for bed, she started getting ready to sleep. And that’s when it struck her.
She froze. Eyes wide, mouth open, face blanched. ”I--I--I--” And then she screamed.
Charmander jumped awake and looked over at Marceline, confused.
”I can’t have all my pillows!!!” she sobbed. ”I love pillows! It’s not fair!”
Charmander crawled over to her and tilted his head. ”Char?”
Marceline looked down at him, pouting. She stroked his head gently. ”I’m sorry I woke you,” she mumbled.
There was a rustling in a nearby bush. Marceline looked over to see a big, fluffy, white and brown pokemon crawl out of it and into a clump of grass nearby.
”Hey…that pokemon…looks kind of like a pillow…” Marceline stared at it entranced for a moment. Then, ”Charmander! Use ember!”
Charmander spun around and spat a burst of flames towards the fluffy pokemon.
The pokemon fell back and twitched a little, shaking its head. ”Zig!” The pokemon looked over at Charmander and glared. It then jumped back to it’s feet and aimed a tackle towards him.
Hitting Charmander square in the stomach, Charmander coughed a little spurt of fire out.
”Again, Charmander. We’re catching that pillow pokemon!”
”Char!!!” Charmander let out another burst of fire and the fluffy pokemon fell down, twitching.
Marceline reached into her bag, pulled out an empty pokeball and aimed it at the pokemon. The pokeball twitched for a moment before it remained still. ”Yeah! We caught a pillow!”
Charmander jumped up in joy. ”Charmander--Char!” Charmander always loved it when Marceline was happy. Being around perkiness really rubbed off on him making him a bundle of joy.
”Well, I suppose we should see what this pokemon is called, huh?” Marceline smiled and released her newly caught pokemon.
The pokemon lay on the ground still looking dizzy from the ember. “Ziiiiig-ziiiiig--”
Marceline pulled out her pokedex and scanned the fluffy pokemon.
”Zigzagoon,” the pokedex chimed.
Marceline closed it up without looking up more information and smiled. ”Well, I guess we’ll be calling you Zigzagoon then, eh, pillow pokemon?” Marceline pet her new fluffy pokemon which looked at her half-amused, half-confused. ”You really do look like a pillow.”---------- Route 201
Afternoon, 6th June, Year 1Stepping out of the lab, Cal once again smelled the scent of the ocean. A visit to the beach seemed like a good idea for Cal even if it was cold for him. Even living for a month in Sinnoh still didn't get him used to the cold felt in Sinnoh. Heading south, Cal passed by the a sign pointing the way to the beach. Underneath the sign, Cal could spot some sand that had settled there meaning that the beach was as close as he thought it was. Walking a few paces out of town, Cal marveled at the site of the beach in front of him. The beach seemed to be more appropriate to couples walking in the shore line or kids chasing each other in the sand than for swimming in it. Still, it was a great place and Cal thought that his pokemon would enjoy it as well. "Piplup come out!" Cal said while tossing the pokeball in the air. Piplup materialized in front of him. Pichu wanted to go down again and Cal placed him beside Piplup. This was good as Cal wanted to talk to both of them. No one was at the beach right now so this would be private... sort of. "Okay guys, starting tomorrow we'll be of on our adventure!""Chu!" "Pip!" both of the responded. "Well normally we should be heading into the forest to battle some wild pokemon but let's just practice some moves okay?"Both pokemon nodded in response. "Okay both of you get in front of me and face where I'll be facing. Most battles will be like this except when start attacking then you might be facing me instead. Let's start with some basic attacks. Pulse use thundershock, Piplup use Bubble!""Piiii-chuuuu!" Pulse built up electricity in his body before firing an yellow arc in front of him. While Piplup fired bubbles from his beak towards the sand. Both attacks looked strong enough to do some damage to an opponent. After and hour or two of practicing other attacks, Cal decided to Cal it a day and returned Piplup to his pokeball and Pulse back on his head. Pulse was worn out started yawning on Cal's head. Cal went back to Sandgem and proceeded to the Pokecenter to check in. People were starting to turn on their lights when call reached the Pokecenter. He approached the Nurse Joy stationed there. "Hello good evening. Welcome to the pokemon center." She greeted cheerfully.
"Good Evening." Cal greeted back. "My pokemon need to be healed." He said handing Piplup's pokeball and Pulse on his head. "Okay. Chansey, take care of this two please."
"Chansey!" A chansey took the tray holding Piplup and Pulse on it to the back to be healed up. "Is there anything else i can do for you young man?" Nurse Joy inquired. "I'd like a room as well. Oh! And can you please register my pokedex for Sinnoh?" Cal handed her his pokedex. "I understand. There's a free room at the end of the hallway. Room 7, I'll register your pokedex so please wait a moment." Cal nodded in reply and took a sit in the lobby. Once his pokemon were healed and his pokedex finished, his journey would officially begin tomorrow. Sandgem Pokecenter
Marceline Azarni 5 June, Year 1---------- ”Alright, Charmander! Keep up those scratches!” Marceline grinned as she watched her Charmander hacking away at a nearby tree. She had spent several hours training her Charmander and he had really grown.
”Char-man! Char-man! Char-man!” Charmander chanted to himself as he cut against the bark. His claws were moving rapidly back and forth beating away, gradually making not only his hands stronger but his nails sharper as well. ”Char-man! Char-man! Char!?” Charmander stopped abruptly staring at his right hand, intrigued.
Marceline went over to him to see what happened. ”What is it boy?” Looking down at his hand her eyes widened in bewilderment. Her Charmander’s normally orange-red claw was now shinning very brightly. ”Wow,” was all she could say.
Marceline quickly ran to her bag and pulled out her pokedex. After several moments, she figured out that Charmander was in the first stages of learning metal claw. Coming back to her Charmander, she tried to coach him on how to finish learning.
”Oh, good boy, Charmander! You’ve started learning metal claw all on your own! I’m so proud of you!“ Marceline pet Charmander’s head affectionately. “Alright boy, let‘s see if we can get this move down. Just try to put all your focus on that claw. Finish making it steel and try keeping it like that, okay?”
Charmander nodded his head and, after squinting his eyes really hard, his hand was soon covered in metal. Charmander looked at it happily but, after only six seconds, the metal went back to scales. ”Char--” he said sadly.
”No, it’s okay boy. Just try again. You can do it.”
Charmander’s hand started shinning again and then it went back to it’s metal coating. It stayed this way for a bit longer this time but went back to scales quickly. Charmander kept up his persistent training until, after a good three hours, he had finally managed to keep his hand steel long enough to use it.
Marceline bent down and kissed her Charmander on the head. ”Now why don’t you work on attacking with it. It’s just like scratch except you keep your hand metal when you hit with it. Go on and try hacking at that tree.”
”Charmander!” Charmander went back to his training with a big smile on his lizard face.
---
Marceline was sitting down on a rock with her two new friends relaxing. Charmander had a hard day today and tomorrow would be Zigzagoon’s turn. Being able to have Charmander learn a brand new move on the second day out really made her feel like a good trainer. She was just starting to feel like she could really do it and she would really be able to get strong on her own and actually make it to the Pokemon League.
She had heard plenty of stories of trainers working as hard as they could with pokemon until finally they made it to the Pokemon League. She knew that getting there would be hard but, once she would make it to the League, it would be even harder. She would have to fight with trainers from all over the land as well as some brand new trainers she may become associated with along the way.
Having to beat someone she considered a friend was something she was afraid of. Being better than her friends is alright, but forcing someone she likes to have to lose the Pokemon League would be hard.
”Spearow!”
Marceline jerked her head up just in time to see a brown bird soaring above the trees. She watched it for a moment before it disappeared from view.
After several more moments, Marceline stood up abruptly, rummaged through her bag, pulled out some rice, faced her pokemon, and smiled. ”You guys hungry?”---------- Route 201
June 4th, Year 1
Jorgevy Abranches is a young teenager with 16 years old, short dark brown hair, green eyes, tanned skin and very curious. He was leaving Pweter City High School as he saw his neighbor with his Fearow, ready to fly off to Sinnoh, where Jorgevy was going to spend his summer vacations before going to the last year of the Criptopokelogy and Paleopokelogy course of the Pweter City H.S. He dresses himself with a white tank top shirt, black jeans and white sneakers and black wrist bands. As he jumps off to his neighbor´s Fearow and greets him, he makes sure he has his backpack and his Squirtle with him. A new adventure will comence.....
-----------------------------------------
June 5th, Year 1
Jorgevy walks to Prof. Rowan´s lab after landing on Sandgem Town.
"It sure is chilly here in Sinnoh....."- Tought Jorgevy as he knocked on the lab´s door.
"Yes?" - said a assistant, probably Prof. Rowan´s one. "I´m here to get a Sinnoh Pokédex" - said Jorgevy, who was in a rush, since he expected to go to the PokéMart, after getting the Sinnoh Pokédex to complement his old one, so he could buy a shirt or something alike, since even tough it was summer, Jorgevy wasn´t used to this weather as his tanned skin could prove. "Wait a minute please...." - the assistant walked inside to call for Prof.Rowan.
2 minutes passed and a figure of a old man appeared in front of him. "Come in please...." - said Prof. Rowan, who Jorgevy recognized from Jorgevy´s favorite T.V. program, "The mysteries of the Pokémon World".
Jorgevy walked in and saw an amazing lab, full of crazy machines and books. Jorgevy walked to Prof. Rowan as he asked him "Are you from Sandgem Town?" "No, Im from Pallet Town, in Kanto" - said Jorgevy So do you now Prof. Oak? Did he give you a pokemon already? - asked Prof.Rowan "Yes, I know him, he gave me a Squirtle, I brought him here so he can follow me in this journey" - answered Jorgevy "Hmm, since Prof. Oak tought you could take care of that Squirtle and you must already know a thing or two about pokemon, Im gonna give you another one, right now!! Choose from the table on your left please...." - Prof.Rowan extended his arm showing him the table.
Jorgevy quickly went to the table and mechanicly picked up the Pokémon he already knew for a long time that he wanted. A Turtwig.
Nice choice, now that your new Pokédex and roam to every gym and city in Sinnoh. Good luck and I expect to see you later with the Pokédex fully completed! - said Prof. Rowan
Jorgevy greeted Prof.Rowan as he left the lab. He rushed to the mart and let Squirtle and Turtwig to know each other, near the land place of his neighbor Quentin´s Fearow.
Jorgevy walked inside and picked up a shirt, tried it on and as it fits he cuts the buying tag off and puts some money his mom gave him for the trip to buy the shirt.
Jorgevy walked to his neighbor and returned his Pokémon to his Pokéballs. He would have to now Turtwig and continue the experience as a trainer later, since his neighbor was about to leave to Jubilife City.
"Do you need a ride?" - asked Quentin "Yes, thanks, your going straight to jubilife?" - asked Jorgevy Not really, I have to stop first at Twinleaf and then we will go to Jubilife, hop in, we are outta here!!! - with those last words, Quentin climbed on his Fearow followed by Jorgevy and then they flew off
------------------------------ June 6th, Year 1
As Quentin finished his business in the town, Jorgevy was training with his too Pokémon to strengthen their team focus, to make them not 3 elements, but one as a whole.
"C´mon Jorgevy, we will get to Jubilife later, tonight we will sleep in Sandgem´s Pokécenter"
Jorgevy returned his Pokémon and run to his neighbor´s side.
-----later that day------
When they finally arrived in Sandgem, both of them wanted to take a nap in the Pokécenter, as they walked into it´s direction.
Jorgevy was thinking that the next day the real journey would begin, with his 2 best friends, one from the old days of fire fighting and the other from the present, with no old story or rescue missions envolved, atleast for now.
The Pokécenter was the only lighten up building left in the town, with a few trainers inside, Jorgevy was ready to sleep, since tomorrow he would have to wake soon, the trip to Jubilife is long and takes time....
June 6, Year 1
After Almus had been resting on the lake shore for an hour, he decided it was time to be productive once more. He looked out over the lake and didn’t want to disturb how much fun his Pokémon seemed to be having so he pulled his Pokédex out of his pocket and started to thumb through it.
Almus browsed through the Pokédex looking for his Pokémon and then hit the ‘description’ button. The small mechanical device seemed to spring to life with a voice of it’s own. “Gastly! The Ghost/Poison Pokémon.” Almus saw that at the bottom of the screen it read, “More Info,” just above the description button. He was pleased to find out that pushing the button more than once did in fact tell you more about the Pokémon.
So he clicked, ”Its thin body is made of gas. It can envelop an opponent of any size and cause suffocation.” ”Wow cool! I didn’t know Gastly could do that!” Almus yelled excitedly. Then he clicked again. ”Born from gases, anyone would faint if engulfed by its gaseous body, which contains poison.” Almus nodded to himself and clicked again. ”Will not appear if it is very windy.” He clicked again. ”Its gas-like body allows it to enter almost anywhere, but it is vulnerable to high winds.” “Gastly…” Almus muttered softly to himself, looking out at the swirls of water caused by his fiendish friend. ”Don’t worry Gastly, I’ll make sure not to put you up against any flying Pokémon or anything like that.” Then his gaze lifted up to his other Pokémon and he returned to using the Pokédex.
”Scyther! The Bug/Flying Pokémon.” Click. ”Its blazing speed enhances the effectiveness of the twin scythes on its forearms. This Pokémon's scythes are so effective, they can slice through thick logs in one wicked stroke.” Click. ”It is nearly impossible to parry its attacking scythes. Its movements are like a ninja's.” Click. ”With ninja-like agility and speed, it can create the illusion that there is more than one.” Click. ”When it moves, it leaves only a blur. If it hides in grass, its protective colors make it invisible.” Click. ”It's very proud of its speed. It moves so fast that its opponent does not even know what knocked it down.”
Almus’ eyes flickered around all of the features of his Pokédex. He quickly found how to look up a Pokémon’s special abilities. ”Gastly! Special ability: Levitate.” Almus looked back up to the lake. ”Levitate huh? Ok well I think that’s covered. Let’s look at Scyther’s.” “Scyther. Special ability: Swarm and Technician.” Almus raised an eyebrow skeptically. ”What is the Technician ability?" “Technician! When this Pokémon uses an attack that has 60 base power or less, the move's base bower receives a 50% boost. For example, a move with 60 base power effectively becomes a move with 90 base power.” “Wow.” Almus thought. ”I’m not quite sure that I understood all the technical aspects of it but it sounds as if it makes all but Scyther’s best moves a lot more powerful! This is definitely worth working on.”
Almus stood up and beckoned his Scyther to come back when she noticed her trainer rising to his feet. She stopped tracing Gastly’s water circles and sped over to her trainer. "Gaa?" His other Pokémon cooed in question. ”Oh it’s ok Gastly. I’m just going over here to work on a new technique with Scyther. Unless you’re tired you can keep swimming around.” Almus laughed as Gastly immediately sank back into the water to return to his fun. ”Ok Scyther. Time for some practice!"Scyther!" She cheered as she stood ready for Almus’ commands.
Almus tried to sound as confident and assertive as possible, trying to give his Pokémon his positive energy to feed off of. ”Scyther! Use Quick Attack on that tree! Then, follow it up with Pursuit on any branches or anything that falls out!” He watched as Scyther took a readying stance and then nearly vanished.
"SCY-THEEEERRRRRR!!!" She sped like a gun shot. She went from standing still to darting at seemingly alien speeds faster than Almus’ eye could register her movements. In less time than it took Almus to turn his head, Scyther had pummeled herself into the thick trunk of the tree. Instantly several large branches were shaken loose and Scyther snapped out at them, scythes first, like a rubber band released at full tension. Almus was in awe. He shook his head bringing himself back to his senses when he realized Scyther had almost a blushed look on her face. Almus had been standing there jaw dropped in amazement at Scyther’s speed, power, and capabilities. She was able to really let loose a lot more out here by the lake then she was able to while attacking the small targets Ms. Rayne set up in their back yard.
They practiced this combination a few more times before Almus decided it was time to take it to the next step. ”Alright Scyther. You’ve been doing a great job, I’m proud of you. Let’s kick it up a notch though. Try the same thing again but this time let’s use your Technician ability!” Suddenly Scyther hesitated in her movements and stared at Almus reluctantly. She shifted out of her battle pose into a more comfortable stance and crossed her arms as she looked at her trainer.
Almus stood there confused for a moment. ”What’s wrong girl? Are you tired? He asked. Scyther simply shook her head. ”Alright well if your not tired then let’s see that Technician ability! Scyther, Go! ….” Almus cheered his Pokémon on but his voice quickly faded as he realized Scyther wasn’t moving. ”Errr! Come on Scyther, use Quick Attack.” As soon as Almus asked, Scyther picked up her head and then turned to the tree cracking off another branch after a powerful attack. She then came back to her trainer and stood there.
”Alright! That’s it! Now we’re doing it. Ok Scyther one more time, but now add in your Technician ability! … … … oh man!” Almus whined as once more his Pokémon refused to obey him.
"Scy." Scyther chirped suddenly.
Almus looked up questioningly. ”What is it? Are you just not willing to use your special ability for me?” He asked with a saddened tone. He smiled when Scyther shook her head. ”So you do want to use your Technician ability for me?”
"Scyth!" She nodded.
”Alright good. Then let’s try this again. Scyther, Technician!” Almus watched as his Pokémon just stood there. A moment passed and then Scyther pointed to Almus and pointed to the tree. He thought for a moment before he shouted, ”Hey I’m the trainer! You’re not supposed to be the one telling me to do attacks!” It was difficult for Almus not to laugh as he said that.
Scyther shook her head as she grinned herself. Almus tried questioning Scyther again to understand what the problem was. ”So you are willing to use your Technician ability for me but you just aren’t doing it.” He said out loud to reprocess the information in case he missed something.
"Scyth!" She nodded.
”Hmmm. You have no problem attacking the tree. Hm. Is it that I am just doing something wrong?” He looked up hopefully.
"Scyth!" She nodded.
He quickly smiled but then frowned. He now knew what the problem was but he didn’t know what he was doing wrong. Almus looked up and again saw Scyther point at him and then at the tree. His mind raced with thoughts of what Scyther could mean by that. ”I know Scyther can’t be asking me to do something as silly as attacking the tree myself. There has to be something that I am not seeing in the delivery and execution of the attack unless…" Suddenly it dawned on him. He couldn't resist the urge to blurt out the rest of his thoughts before turning back to address Scyther. "OF COURSE! How could I be so stupid? Scyther, you’re not saying you don’t know what to do, you are saying I don’t know what I am asking you to do! Aren’t you? You want to make sure that when I tell you to do a move that I fully understand what you are going to make happen!”
"Scyther!" She nodded.
”Well…. I made that a lot more complicated then it had to be.” Almus laughed at himself. ”Alright Scyther, I understand now. You’re still gonna have to help me out a little but that’s what practice is for right? Ok let’s try a normal Quick Attack just across the field and back.” Almus had his hand clenched confidently that this time he would be able to make Scyther obey him.
"Ssssscyyyyytheeeerrrr!!!" His Pokémon screamed her battle roar across the plain as she let loose her attack. She shot off, shoulders out, in a green blur to the other end of the tree line. The first blur had only just stopped when a new one was already speeding back through it’s own path. This was the quality of Scyther’s basic Quick Attack.
”Alright, great job Scyther. Now, just back and forth the field one more time and show me how it’s done! Don’t worry, I won’t miss it. I promise!” Almus was determined to have more than respect but trust from his Pokémon . He didn’t want Pokémon who just obeyed him because they had to. He wanted Pokémon who felt a connection to him and obeyed him because they wanted to! Almus squat down and steadied himself with a hand. He had his eyes focused as hard as he could on every movement Scyther made.
Scyther heard Almus’ promise and nodded. She didn’t know Almus yet so she didn’t know how reliable his word was. She didn’t know if he could keep his promises, but as far as she was concerned, this was his one and only chance. She took a breath and readied herself.
Scyther knelt low to the ground. She arched her shoulder’s forward, as if there were really a target in front of her, and used her chest muscles to lock them in place. Then she bent her elbows to raise her scythes in front of her shoulders. Her wings adjusted themselves, not out to fly, but just angled as if she were already in the air and attempting the guide herself downward. With that, she took off. There was no blur at all. Almus’ eyes couldn’t register the visual image of how fast she was moving. All he saw were fragmented stills of Scyther’s body, long since passed, that disappeared almost immediately. It looked almost like a double team attack but it was merely an optical illusion of Scyther’s speed because none of the images stayed long enough for even the fastest of Pokémon to have attacked them. Almus hadn’t even been able to notice exactly when Scyther had made it back. She stood tall and proud without even missing a breath.
”Wow Scyther. That was amazing! You were incredible!” Almus exclaimed. She couldn’t help but give a proud blush from the compliments but Almus noticed impatience in her eyes. Almus immediately became serious once more and pointed to the battered tree they were focusing upon earlier. “Alright, ready Scyther?!”
Scyther thought that Almus’ voice sounded excited and loud as if he were preparing to order another absentminded Quick Attack. She almost fell over in surprise when his demeanor suddenly became calm and steady with his next words. ”Lower your body to a stance closer to the ground.” She looked over at him in disbelief and he was smiling at her.
He just held up his smile and spoke. ”That Technician ability is some tricky business. The Pokédex doesn’t really give a good description of it. It’s not like Gastly’s Levitate which is pretty self explanatory. It takes some thought to figure out that in order to use Technician, the trainer must first understand the very fundamentals of attack mechanics. I bet that’s why the Pokédex said you were like a ninja huh? You don’t just throw attacks out wildly; your every move is calculated and well thought out. I understand now that the Technician ability takes it even one step further than that.”
The shock of it all caught Scyther off guard and she couldn’t help the fact that her eyes began to water. Almus seemed to have a stronger desire to understand her than she ever expected. She didn’t actually think that Almus would get it. Especially not right away. He kept his promise and she was touched. Almus’ noticed Scyther’s reaction and smiled before continuing.
”Lowering your body from the start decreases your mass, in turn decreasing the air resistance against you when you are first trying to pick up speed. When using Quick Attack, it works like a high speed tackle so naturally you lead with your shoulders. By placing your blades in front of your shoulders, they can cut through the air and displace it along your sides to keep the air resistance lower once you stand up to further speed. You dart forward with your legs instead of flying because it’s faster but your wings still help you even on the ground don’t they? You can’t cut ALL the air resistance off of you so you angle your wings downward to keep your body propelled towards the floor. This increases the traction you have with each step and therefore gives you more strength to push yourself forward.” Almus glanced from Scyther to the tree. ”And with knowing that technical information …. your Quick Attack becomes…”
"SSSSCCYYYYYTTHHEEEERRRRRRRRRRR!!!" His Pokémon screamed as she vanished forward towards the tree in a string a illusionary Scyther. With a loud snap the tree trunk splintered apart, breaking both vertically and horizontally, and the top half the tree crashed a few feet behind the shattered trunk. Scyther raised herself up from a bent knee and stared in awe at the destruction she had caused. Almus couldn’t believe he had finally earned Scyther’s respect enough to use her ability and Scyther couldn’t believe how much power she felt from that attack. It was as if having Almus’s command for the attack made her so much stronger than she had ever managed to be by herself. She looked back to Almus with renewed admiration. Suddenly she understood the connection between trainer and Pokémon. She stared at Almus, a feeling of safety and loyal belonging washed over her senses as she looked at him. Almus spent the next two hours training Scyther on using Technician with her different attacks. Most of it was spent in experimentation as Scyther's ability was completely different for each of her different attacks. After the sun was starting to set, Almus called it a day and told Scyther to just sit back and relax. Almus walked over to the water's edge and called for Gastly who had been in the lake for the passed several hours. A billowy dark ball floated slowly out of the lake carrying an extremely petrified fish in his mouth. "Oh Gastly! I didn't know you could catch fish!" Almus looked back and saw a couple more petrified fish floating still in the water. "Well I guess fish is on the menu tonight then. Thanks Gastly- ... oh Gastly are you ok?" He took the fish from his Pokémon's mouth and realized that Gastly looked more exhausted than anyone he had ever seen in his whole life. "Oh you poor thing. You played so hard for so long that you got yourself all tired didn't you? Don't worry. Here, have a rest in your pokeball." Almus said before recalling his Pokémon. That night as Almus lay in his sleeping bag staring up at the stars, he reflected over everything he learned that day. "Scyther.... You and I really connected a lot today didn't we? I've known Gastly for years but I am only just getting to know you. I haven't even had you long enough to get to know your personality yet but already I feel closer to you. There is so much for both of us to learn still. You took a chance on me today. You decided to trust me. I won't betray that trust. I'm going to end up seeing lot's of new places and I promise that just like Gastly, I'll keep you right there by my side. No matter what happens, no matter who we meet, I'll never abandon either of you. Gastly, Scyther, and me. I'll keep the three of us together forever. ... I promise."
Evening, June 6th, Year 1
Cal got back his pokedex after a few minutes. Registry took a short while but his pokemon needed more. They were being checked for any signs of sickness and etc. Pokemon were often far from a pokecenter during a trainer's travels even with the amout of Pokecenters scattered across the continent. It was best they check to make sure everything was alright.
While waiting, Cal scrolled through his pokedex in his lobby, searching for information.
Piplup - the Penguin Pokémon. It's very proud, and its thick down protects it from the cold.
Ability - Torrent: Powers up Water-type attacks in a pinch
Seems appropriate for Sinnoh, being cold and all. Torrent sounds useful but what defines "a pinch" Cal mused.
Cal scrolled through the rest of the information of Piplup before switching to Pichus. Unfortunately, the held the same information that Cal already knew about Pulse.
Pichu - the Tiny Mouse Pokémon. A pre-evolved form of Pikachu. Despite their size, Pichu release bursts of electricity that can shock even humans. However, Pichu are unskilled at controlling their electricity, and sometimes release it by accident when surprised, or when laughing and shock themselves.
Cal used the touch screen to look for more information
It is still inept at retaining electricity. When it is startled, it discharges power accidentally. It gets better at holding power as it grows older.
*Scroll*
The electric sacs in its cheeks are small. If even a little electricity leaks, it becomes shocked.
Cal sighed. Everything pointed out that Pulse would be emiting electricity uncontrollably for a while. He was about to sigh in defeat when he realized he hadn't checked on what Pulse's ability was.
Ability - Static: Contact with the Pokémon may cause paralysis.
Now Cal's mode had changed. It seemed that the electricity Pulse would be emiting might not be wasted after all. It also supported Pulse as Pichu's, or their evolutions, weren't really pokemon that could take so much damage.
"Mr. Spiral, your pokemon are ready." Cal heard from the Pokecenter's intercom. Pocketing his pokedex, Cal got up to get Pulse and Piplup back. While he wanted to train both as soon as possible, Cal was more excited about unlocking Pichu's static ability.
June 6th, Year 1 Jorgevy and Quentin enter the Pokécenter and Jorgevy walks to Nurse Joy, delivering his Pokemon.
"Good Evening, would you like me to take care of your pokemon?"
"Yes, please. Here they are" - Jorgevy handed the Pokéballs to Nurse Joy
"Please wait a few minutes since we have to make sure everything is ok. Are you staying the night here?" - asked Nurse Joy grabing the Pokéballs
"Yes, me and my friend need a room" - said Jorgevy
Well, I only have a few beds available, but I dont have a room with 2 beds available so you´ll be in a diferent room, is that ok? - said Nurse Joy looking at the notepad where she kept the regist of rooms and beds available
"Yes, there´s no problem, thank you." - after saying that Jorgevy reached Quentin and explained him that there wasn´t any room with 2 beds available.
Nurse Joy soon after the talk, showed Quentina nd Jorgevy their rooms and handed the Pokéballs back to Jorgevy.
Jorgevy entered the room and saw 3 other boys, all younger than him, sleeping. He sit on the bed, taking out his Pokédex to search for info on his Pokémon.
"Squirtle. This Tiny Turtle Pokémon draws its long neck into its shell to launch incredible water attacks with amazing range and accuracy. The blasts can be quite powerful." - said the Pokédex "I already knew that and its ability its Torrent, wich powers up Water-type moves in a pinch. Let´s see Turtwig´s, since I only got it now, I have yet to know more about him...." - said Jorgevy to himself, not very loud, so he doesnt wake up the other trainers......
"Turtwig, the Tiny Leaf Pokémon. Its shell is made of earth and when it absorbs water, it becomes harder.Ability: Overgrown, Powers up Grass-type moves in a pinch." - said the Pokédex
"Just like Torrent but for grass types.......Maybe using Squirtle´s water attack I can power up Turtwig´s shell to become harder and..... *yawn*.....maybe.... *yawn*.... Oh man, I need to sleep" - Jorgevy then laid down and closed the Pokédex and also his eyes, preparing to sleep.
Marceline Azarni 6 June, Year 1---------- Marceline was woken up around noon with Zigzagoon nuzzling his whiskers into her face. ”Mmph,” she demanded but Zigzagoon paid no mind and proceeded to lick her nose. Agitated, Marceline picked her pillow up from under her head and batted Zigzagoon’s back with it which he also ignored.
”Zagoon!” Zigzagoon jumped up onto Marceline’s stomach and began bouncing until, finally giving in, Marceline rolled over and crawled out of her sleep sack.
”Alright, alright you stubborn pillow. I’ll get up if it’ll make you happy.” Still groggy, she yawned loudly and rubbed her eyes. When her eyes came into focus, she saw the smiling face of her Charmander and the prideful face of her Zigzagoon. ”You two really are amazingly good friends.”
”Char!” ”Zig!” Her pokemon beamed at her and ran over to let Marceline hug them both.
---
”Tackle, Zigzagoon!” Marceline called after her Zigzagoon as it fought with a wild Wurmple.
”Zagoo!” Zigzagoon nodded and jumped towards the Wurmple, smacking it’s body into the side of Wurmple.
”Plllle!” The Wurmple cowered back a little from the impact before delivering it’s own tackle on Zigzagoon. The impact was a lot harder than Zigzagoon was expecting from a small pokemon and sent him flying back towards a tree.
”Catch yourself Zigzagoon! Use the tree to propel another tackle!” Marceline attempted to coach her pokemon through it’s flight.
”Zig!” The Zigzagoon registered the idea but didn’t have enough time to react and smacked into the tree instead. ”Oon?” Zigzagoon looked up at Marceline for a reaction but, instead of scolding him, she just smiled.
”That was a very nice attempt, Zigzagoon. We’ll just need to work on that one more. Go ahead and try another tackle on the Wurmple.”
Nodding, Zigzagoon sprinted towards the Wurmple ready for impact but was cut off by the Wurmple spitting out a sticky string that trapped Zigzagoon to the ground. ”Goon! Goon!” The Zigzagoon struggled and moved his head around trying to find a way out, confused as to how it got stuck inside the string.
”Oh, baby!” Marceline ran over to help her Zigzagoon out of it’s sticky mess. The strings were a lot stronger than they let on to be and, no matter how much she pulled, they wouldn’t come loose. ”Hold on a second, Zigzagoon.” Marceline reached down to her belt and pulled off Charmander’s ball. She then let him out, him doing the same happy dance he always does when he’s released from his ball. ”Charmander? Very carefully, can you burn the strings off of Zigzagoon with your ember?”
”Mander!” Charmander smiled happily that he was needed for a rescue mission and singed away the sticky strings encasing Zigzagoon.
”Zagoon! Zigzagoon crawled out happily and pounced Charmander, licking his face.
”Now where did that Wurmple go?” Marceline pursed her lips as she looked around. There was no little pink bug pokemon to be seen.
---
Zigzagoon leapt from one tree to the next. He was quickly learning how to jump off of objects which would be very helpful in fights when he would be thrown around. Unfortunately, Marceline was well aware of the fact that jumping on and off of something isn’t the same thing as being thrown at something and catching yourself.
”You’re doing great, Zigzagoon!” Marceline was shooting encouraging remarks to Zigzagoon in hopes to keep it’s spirit high and it’s energy going. So far, it seemed to be working very well.
”Zag-Goon! Zag-Goon!”
Marceline watched amused at how happy Zigzagoon appeared to be. It looked almost like he was just a blur of stripes dancing back and fourth between the oran trees.
”Ta-looooow!”
Marceline jerked her head up to see a small blue bird come swooping down towards her Zigzagoon. ”Zigzagoon! Watch out!”
It turned out that Marceline had spoken too late however as, right when the bird reached her pokemon, the Zigzagoon had already stopped jumping and aimed a full-speeded tackle at the offending bird. Then, before the bird knew what happened, it fluttered to the ground dizzily.
Marceline stood dumbstruck for a moment before she looked back at her blurry brown and white pokemon that had resumed it’s training. ”Good job, Zigzagoon,” she cooed, never prouder of her new baby. Marceline rummaged around for her pokedex and scanned the pokemon.
”Taillow.”
”Well, that’s the last Taillow that will ever try taking advantage of my pillow pokemon!”
June 7th, Year 1
Jorgevy waked up, eagerly waiting for Quentin, so they could fly to Jubilife.
Quentin was still asleep but Jorgevy decided to go train a bit with his Pokémon to Route 201.
The Route was full of wild life, Pokémons everywhere, ready to be challenged
Jorgevy released Turtwig and Squirtle, he had to talk to them and join as a team to succeed.
OK guys, Im not your trainer, Im a partner, a colleague, most of all a teammate!!! so as a teammate Im gonna help you, respect you and I hope to receive the same.....So what do you guys say? Are we a team or what??
TURT!!!
SQUIRT!!!
The two pokémon agreed in taking part of this plan. Jorgevy, was content with it and he was ready to start training.
----------------
After 3 hours of balantly grinding Jorgevy decided he should go and check if Quentin had wake up, then he could train specificly on a few moves and then fly to Jubilife, directly to the Pokécenter.
-----------------------------
Jorgevy reached to the Pokécenter in Sandgem to find a letter from Quentin handed by Nurse Joy.
" Dear Jorgevy,
Im sorry but something caught up between my plans, so I cant get you to Jubilife that soon. Stay in Sandgem, the Pokémart employe is my friend and he will get you anything you need.Soon I´ll be there and we will be flying to Jubilife, I wont take long.
Sincerely, Quentin"
Hmmmmmm, so I think it´s time to practice on the moves guys..... - said Jorgevy looking to his Pokéballs
Marceline Azarni 6 June, Year 1----------- After an hour lunch break for Marceline and her pokemon, Zigzagoon was ready for his training to continue. He was finally able to master jumping from one tree to another but dodging was still an issue he would need to work on.
”Okay guys, let’s get back to training,” Marceline gave Zigzagoon and her Charmander an encouraging pat on their heads and began joyfully bouncing up and down eagerly. ”I got an idea for you two. Charmander, use ember on Zigzagoon’s feet and Zigzagoon, you jump out of the way. Alright guys?”
“Zagoo!” Zigzagoon put on his serious face and, wiggling his tail in the air, crouched down in a ready to pounce way.
Charmander did his classic happy dance before facing Zigzagoon, ready to fight. ”Chaaaaaaaa!” Charmander opened his mouth and let out a stream of fire which, due to Zigzagoon’s delayed actions, slightly singed Zigzagoon’s toe fur.
”Zig!” Zigzagoon was able to recover from the startle he got from the ember quickly enough and jumped out of the way before the ember could do more damage to him.
”Good work guys. Just keep that up, okay?”
Her pokemon nodded and continued with using ember and dodging. After about three hours had past, however, Marceline’s Charmander and Zigzagoon were exhausted. ”You guys did really good today,” she cooed. ”If you guys just keep working on that, you’ll become really strong. I’m proud of you both.”
Marceline sat down on a rock with her pokemon, absent mindedly stroking their heads.
”YOOHOO!”
Marceline turned her head to the familiarly obnoxious voice to see her neighbor Chelsea strolling up to her, a Skitty by her side.
”Hey there girlfriend,” Chelsea said in her normal idiotically happy voice. ”Why did you leave without telling me, you silly goose? You know I wanted to go adventuring with you.”
Marceline’s eye twitched involuntarily. ”I didn’t really tell anyone. How did you find me anyway?”
”Your mom said that you went off towards Twinleaf. Besides, you really didn’t go all that far from home. I just followed the sound of your Charmander.” Chelsea plopped down on the rock beside Marceline’s Charmander and the Skitty curled up onto her lap.
”Oh joy. At least you thought of talking to my mother or you would have never found me.”
”Yup! Oh, we’re going to have so much fun together! I can’t wait until we can get to town and go shopping! I love looking at all that merchandise they have for pokemon. My Skitterkins is going to be so pretty and will win all sorts of prizes just for being beautiful!”
Marceline put her face into her hands. ”If you wanted to go on a pokemon adventure, why didn’t you leave earlier?”
”I was waiting for you, silly! You know I wanted to go last year when I turned ten but you wanted to stay home and help your brothers. What would a poor defenseless girl like me do if something bad happened? If there’s two of us, then we would be fine!”
”That’s what the pokemon are for,” Marceline reasoned. ”Look Chelsea, it’s sweet and cool of you to want to come along with me but, this is something I would really rather do by myself. Besides, clearly my Zigzagoon doesn’t like ‘Skitter…koon’ or whatever it’s name is.” Marceline looked down at her Zigzagoon which was throwing dirty glares at the Skitty on Chelsea’s lap.
”It’s SkitterKINS, thank you very much, and I’m sure your Zigzagoon will come around. No one can resist the charm of my little doll.”
One thing Marceline hated about Chelsea was how vain and stubborn she was. She would never take no for an answer and refused to believe that there could possibly be anyone better than her out there. Everything she said was right and that was all there was to it.
Marceline wanted to leave on her journey when she turned ten but her parent’s wouldn’t let her go as they were afraid that something would happen and she wouldn’t know what to do because she was so young. Her parent’s put her into constant lecture sessions about pokemon for a whole year and, once she turned eleven, she was given permission to go out on the journey all by herself. Unfortunately however, by the time she turned eleven, Chelsea had just turned ten a month before and came running up to her asking to go on the journey together. Hoping to discourage her from wanting to go with Marceline and just leaving by herself, she said she didn’t want to go on the journey until her brother’s were ten and so she was going to help her parent’s out until she could go with her family. Unfortunately, Chelsea had waited for her anyway.
”Okay fine. I’ll let you come with me, I suppose. Right now it’s getting a bit late so, let’s set up camp, alright?” Marceline stood up and walked over to a small bush. ”Come here Charmander.”
”Charmander!” Charmander jumped off the rock and ran over as wobbly and quickly as his tiny legs would take him.
”Go on and cut off some of those branches so we can make a fire, okay?” Marceline smiled at her pokemon before going into a small clearing where she would have enough room to lay down her sleeping bag.
By the time Marceline had laid down her sleeping bag, Zigzagoon and Charmander came up, dragging the firewood over with Chelsea and Skitterkins right behind.
”Wait, so you mean we have to sleep in the dirt?” Chelsea looked at Marceline’s bedding as if offended by the thought of setting a sleeping bag on the ground.
”Yes. And when we wake up, we have to pick out all the Caterpies from our sleep sacks.” Marceline spat. ”Just lay out your sleeping bag or go home.”
”Alright, alright.” Like a spoiled princess, Chelsea slowly and disgustedly sprawled out her sleep sack and placed down a pink and fluffy pillow for her Skitty to sleep on.
”I’ll start making us dinner,” Marceline informed, more to her pokemon than her ‘friend.’
---
That night, after Chelsea and Skitterkins had long since fallen asleep, Marceline quickly put away her sleep sack, grabbed her pokemon, doused the fire, and ran. She didn’t stop running until she had finally arrived at Route 202, hopefully far enough away to prevent Chelsea from running into her again too soon.---------- Route 201-Route 202
