An old man with white, slicked back, hair wearing a black suit sits upon an ancient throne like chair behind an equally extravagant table with a delicately decorated candelabrum, reading from a large worn tome. Around him can be seen nothing but darkness, illuminated only slightly by the small flames. Placing his hand upon the tome he flips it open and begins to read aloud.
"In the beginning, what we call humans and demons were one in the same. They lived together in a blissful harmony for many years. It is not recorded who struck the first blow or even the cause behind it, but war began between the two. The war continued for thousands of years and through evolution differences began to surface. Over time the human realm and the demon realm split into two separate worlds. It is not known how, but a barrier was assembled to separate the two worlds. And thus humans and demons have had limited contact for thousands of years."
The old man closes the book and slowly stands beside the table. He places his hand upon the book's cover and sighs.
"This is what is recorded in the forbidden scribes of mankind, logged away in some hidden library that lies between the two worlds. A place that no mortal has set eyes upon in a millennia. However, this record is not the only way the story of this world’s history has been recorded. It was passed on through generations by the humans and demons alike, told at first to keep it in the memory of the next generation, but over time it became little more than a legend, and as with all legends it's truths are forgotten and replaced by misconceptions and lies."
The old man finally lifts his gaze and touch from the tome then slowly and methodically marches away from the table.
"But now, for the few that still remember the truth and for the few that still believe the stories, a new chapter is about to be written. The seal is about to be broken and the barrier lifted. Free passage between the worlds will once again be a possibility. This book is not yet completed; it will be up to the new generation to fill the remaining pages. Will it end here, or is this only the beginning?"
The old man turns his back to the tome and after casting one final look over his shoulder walks away, slowly disappearing into the darkness.
