Not really sure what I'm doing yet. Usually I do some sort of journeying/trance work, so it's likely that I'll do something similar again. I'll have to go dig up some rituals and stuff that I have floating around and add them to the thread.

My best friend and I are getting together for our first ritual together smile
We plan on honouring those who have passed and making an offering.. plus so much more! biggrin

And we're still young enough to trick-or-treat.. wink
So we'll be doing that too smile

First I suppose I have to figure out when I'm going to celebrate it. Noone can seem to settle on a single date, due to all sorts of reasons.

Then we're gonna have a fancy meal.
And I'm going to do some.. sort of ritual. Not sure yet what.
And I'm going to begin a book of shadows, I suppose.

I'm getting together with a few friends of mine who are interested and I'm going to hold a Basic Ritual at midnight on November 2nd, under the full moon.

I am still in the middle of planning so nothing is solid. Though I do have ideas that are still baking.

What sort of ritual does your group describe as a "basic ritual"?

The Basic ritual is Casting the circle, calling quarters, Drawing down Deity. Drawing Energy, focus, Spell, Cake and Ale, thank/dismiss quarters, Thank Deity, Close Circle, Leave offerings in center of circle For Spirits to take, Thank those spirits who aided and then be off. I myself will be leading the Whole thing... alone x.x I will Write down that nights Events into my Spiritual Journal.

Though we might call out to those who have passed recently within our Families. Though I'm not sure how safe that would be.

Though, If I know my Aunt Mary She'll find us.

I ask because everyone's idea of a basic ritual is different. I had no idea how you performed ritual until you explained it just now wink

You Draw Down deity in your basic rituals? Which deity do you Draw? I had no idea that ritual was performed outside of Wicca.

Why do you perform spells in your rituals? Does that not detract from the purpose of the ritual somewhat, or is the ritual for the spell?

I was merely laying out the basic Ritual. Ones that I learned about usually had a spell of some sort, Though I feel I'm going to Switch that out of it and do more of a Divination to contact relatives of those who are participating.

And the drawing down Deity thing I learned from some of my other books as well, Gary Cantrell. I'll be Focusing on Strega Deities. Lucifer and Diana. They are the ones that "call" to me.

There is still alot of planning and only a week left to figure it all out. so I'm Continually trying to figure out what all I need to do to prepare.

I ask only because it's a very involved and advanced element of ritual. Within Wicca it's only practised in a coven environment by a HP and HPS. Who will you be drawing your deities down into?

Out of respect for the Strega, we would prefer that you didn't call Grimassi's work "Stregheria", or anything else Leland-inspired. Stregheria is a craft, not a religion, and one passed down within families. I understand Grimassi has Strega in his past but he was not taught it, and nor does he teach it; he just uses the word for his own Wicca-inspired religion. In this guild we consider that sort of thing inappropriate, by the same token as we consider self-claiming the terms "druid" or "Wiccan" to be inappropriate.

Thanks ^_^

That is why I'm discussing this with you guys.

I have only one person whom I would consider for High priestess and she currently is miles away from me... x.x

Also, I never knew that about Strega, and I only read one of his books and it came from the "Well worn path deck" I find the Programs to "Learn" rather... Greedy. Thank you once again for clearing this up once more ^-^

Do you have any other ideas as to what I should remove/change within this plan of mine?

I hate feeling like I'm doing something wrong. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Actual "drawing down the moon" is a form of possession, which is why it's frustrating to see it talked about in some books as just a way of inviting deity to be in the circle (I mean it is, but there is a lot more to it than that).

If you are still planning out your ritual, there's a ritual creation worksheet in my resource thread that is really helpful.

Actually that Well-Worn Path deck looked rather pretty. I'm certain it has some uses.

Your plan is fine ^_^ How you perform ritual is up to you. Though as Sweet said, "Drawing Down" is a form of possession and it involves a great deal of training to be able to do it. I've only ever heard of it specifically called that in the context of Wicca; other religions may have other names for it, or it may well be a unique element of ritual.

Based on discussions in a few other places - is it ok to call Samhain, Samhain? I mean I remember the whole Yule thing, and I understand completely the issue of cultural misappropriation, but there are valid paths that use those names for their sabbats/holidays. So it's getting a little confusing.
