Hey Guys! This is a resource for typing in foreign languages on your computer =) If you have a way to type other languages on your computer, feel free to post it here!

For Japanese::
For Windows 95-XP ::
See Here

For Windows Vista ::
1. Start Menu -> Control Panel
2. Click "Clock, Language, and Region" (click the category link not a sublink)
3. Click "Regional and Language Options" (again click the category link)
4. Click the "Keyboard and Languages" tab -> Click Change Keyboard
5. In the "General" tab (should be the default tab) under "Installed Services", on the side click "Add"
6. A Window titled "Add Input Languages" should pop up. Scroll down the list to Japanese. Open the category (click the "+" box) and open both "keyboard" and "other"
7. Check the boxes next to "Japanese", "Microsoft IME", and "Ink Correction"
8. Click "OK" and that box will close taking you back to the other box. click "Apply" then "OK" then it will close. You can now close out of all of those other windows.

the IME will now be located on your taskbar and you can switch to japanese input when a text box is open.

Make sure before you begin typing to click (when in Japanese input) "Input Mode" (will have a capital "A" next to it on your toolbar) and click hiragana. From there, the capital "A" will now be a hiragana ”あ” character. now when you type in the text box, as you type in romaji, the characters will change to hiragana. If it is an english loanword, press your space bar and it should change to katakana. If it is typed, you can press your space bar and, if it's not a loanword, it will change to the appropriate kanji =)

you can now type in kanji using hiragana. congratulations =)

For Mac Users::
Here

(Otaku_Libra's Guide - She actually has a Mac haha)

1) Go to "System Preferences"
2) Click "International" (I'm running OS X and it's on the top row third from the right)
3) Click "Edit List" and add "日本語"
4) Then go to "Input Menu" (It's at the top with "Language" and "Formats")
5) Scroll down until you see "Kotoeri" check it, and the other options that you want to be able to type.
6) When you have done this you should see an "A" in the top right corner of your menu bar. You can click it to change the input. And just type what you wish to have written in. (sorry that doesn't make much sense...)
For example: if you want "あ" you type "a" if you want "私" you type "わたし" and press the space bar.
I hope that made sense... I don't have pretty pictures, so it might be easier to just look at the link Ichigo put up...
