Usually, I write in first person, as I find that I am better able to connect with my character and audience. However, this year my main character is a bit secretive, and I feel that first person would give everything away too quickly. Besides, she has quite the mouth/mind on her and I'm afraid that most of it would become her babbling and cursing.

So, back to third I go! It'll be quite the adventure, as I haven't written in third person for what feels like forever.

What about you? What person do you prefer, what are you writing? Ever feel that one is more necessary/appropriate than another? Ever make the mistake of using the "wrong" person for story?

It always seems like the mechanics are ignored when it comes to NaNo (at least in the early stages). Last year I walked right into my novel without even knowing what person I'd be using!

I like to keep it third, so you can have a tap on what information you want your reader to know. Sometimes, like for this NaNo, I venture off into first person, since you can be a bit closer to the MC. Plus it's fun having unreliable narrators~ 3nodding

I tend to write in first person, now that I've gotten into it. I used to write in only third person, but then I tried first, and haven't been able to comfortably go back to third. I always feel like I'm missing something.
However, I think I may be going with third for NaNo.

Most always third. I dislike first person, and haven't quite figured out what second actually is..Anyway, third person seems to give me a lot more freedom than the others :3

I will be doing first person, but switching between characters. It might seem like an odd way to write, but I like it...I got the idea from Robert Heinlein's book The Number of the Beast.

I usually don't switch characters, but I almost always write in the first person. I often prefer reading first person novels as well...to me it's interesting to have the perspective limited by a person's experience/feelings/prejudices.

I write in whatever style the story calls for. Last year's was in third (and that's generally what I prefer), but this year's is going to be written in first.

I prefer third person above all else. A lot of people say they like first because it helps them connect to their character better, but I've never encountered this barrier before. I actually find it a completely weird concept. The reason I do third rather than first is to skip around characters. I greatly dislike books who skip around characters in first person. Therefore, third it is.

May those who accept their fate be granted Happiness

I write in first, but I might end up doing
third for NaNo... it gives a little more feeling
to display the emotions of each character, rather
than only those of my MC.

Last year, I wrote my novel in first character but switched between the PoV of two different main characters. It worked for that novel, but would be hard to do again.

This year...I have no clue! I do not even know what my plot is yet, I've got way too many different ideas.

Hahaha, that's exactly how I feel, Sui Generis. I'm just hoping that I'll remember how to properly write in third person by the first...

And good luck to you, Mango. You gotta choose soon.

I've tried third in the past but I generally give up on those stories simply because I just do... I've done a few (as in one) in first before but once again, stopped because other things had priority. o__o'''

I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing for NaNo but first seems to be what I'm heading for because my story might flow a little easier and be less complicated if I just worry about what's going on in one character's head. o_o It's the type or story that can get too complicated too fast.

I always end up using third person omniscient. I like to express the thoughts and feelings of almost all my characters. I think it's a side effect from watching/reading too much anime/manga. o.o

I use all three sometimes. It's really fun biggrin
First gives insight into just one person, unlike second and third.
Second is just fun to play with, and third is good for telling a story with all the characters being evolved.

I am going to write in first person as the story is mainly centered around her and her daily life. c:

My main character is quiet and observant, and not really talkative, so I'm writing in first person in order to get all his thoughts in there. I have a lot of fun writing in his voice. xD
