Her vampires need to drink blood, cannot go out into the sun, need to sleep in coffins (but do not require the soil of their homeland), form covens, are often aristocratic in nature, and turn others into vampires by sharing their blood with them. These characteristics are amongst the most popular when it comes to literary vampires. That's why Anne Rice's vampires are often considered to be examples of "real vampires."
